It may answer your question because you also like Minecraft Survival, and for me NMS has become basically Minecraft Survival in Space.... less prosper/base building depth but still similar attachment and even better exploration and survival.

in short, i played NMS for so long for the same reason i have a fascination with space and otherworldly planets. i just want to see them.

Thanks a lot to both of you. I'm definitely going to boot it up with a new perspective. I never wanted to get into the venom posts about the game. I kept watching the updates throughout the year waiting for something interesting. Maybe it's in there now.

Here's hoping that they add the life form routines and eco-system updates that I'm looking for in a future update! Until then, maybe this latest patch will be fun after all...

I seriously underestimated the graphical upgrades. Game looks alot better now.

So this is a tenner on UK PSN right now so I'm sorely tempted to jump in with this update.

I played it last year on a friend's PS4, got 3-4 hours in before the grind got to me and I kept having to scrounge around for fuel for my ship. Is there less grind now, or are all the things in the trailer (growing stuff, getting a moon buggy, freighters) hundreds of hours of grind away?

My time for gaming is limited, and most of it's being taken up by Just Cause 3 and the impending Uncharted DLC.

Freighters will be a grind, but not nearly so much with base building, farm, and vehicles.

This is exactly why i bought the game recently i read those first 2 patch notes and was convinced to buy it but after seeing that ARG i held off.

Space and the Universe interests me deeply so to have a seemingly pretty great simulator is so damn cool and it seems this update improves a whole heck lot.

Ever since playing Metroid games and seeing those programs on discovery and national geo i always wanted a good space sim game.

Seems like that finally is here. This will consume me soon enough for a while:p

If this ever gets VR i will buy a psvr headset the day it releases.

Playstation 4 players can now adjust their field of view via the options menu.

Just read through the patch note and oh my god. This is blowing my mind.

Another huge update - looks like it's all good stuff for the people who have kept with it, what might get me to pick it up though is the story stuff. Looks like there's missions and a better storyline being added to the game. Hopefully it adds an "ending" of sorts to the game for people who don't just want to play survival.

Damn, massive props to the devs for the work they've put in.

Super glad I got this game for £3 from an ASDA a little while ago. :D

The core feature of "yes, there is now extremely limited multiplayer" alone is cheering.

Really strange that there is still no sign of clouds in the sky at all lol
That is odd, but we know they've been working on a new cloud shader for a while now that isn't in the patch notes, so I guess they just didn't want to use the old gross clouds in their screenshots =P

The trailer specifically mentions there are still more updates to come in the future, so I'm sure clouds will happen one day! I'm also hoping for an overhaul to ground combat (FPS gameplay, both on planets and through ship boarding in space, capturing freighters by force maybe?) and most importantly to animal AI and distribution. I want to see herd animals migrating across planets in the hundreds; birds landing in trees or on lakes; predators stalking through the forests; herbivores grazing on plants or congregating at water holes; rare large animals capable of destroying trees like we saw in the old trailers, etc.

To be honest they still need to overhaul forests and woodland too. Those biomes aren't good enough yet, but I understand density of foliage like that is tough to accomplish on this scale with modern hardware. Either way, it's great to see how many huge improvements the team make to NMS with every single update. This game has easily redeemed itself imo, and the future holds a lot of potential.

Crashed ships have been in since launch, he's talking about the freighters that were in the original trailers showing the game.
Sounds like we can actually crash our own ship again now, too lol

Just got finished with reading the changes, god damn!

Some fantastic stuff, not only the big stuff but tonnes of little tweaks that sound really good like scanning being better on planet and other stuff.

Cant wait to try this out, especially the 30 hour story!

Terrain tools are a neat, but it's not possible to visit someone elses planet to see their creations (yet), right? That is, the worlds/planets are not shared?

We can see other players bases they've built, but idk about terrain changes just yet, especially since the MP aspect is still so basic.

Going to jump back in to try this update; haven't played really since around launch, will I need to start a new game to take advantage of the updates?

No, but with there being a focus on a revamped story it's probably recommended if you have an interest in that. Personally I'll restart just because I want to fall into this all afresh and I haven't played since before the vehicle update.

Are mah planets hula-hooping yet? If not then interest low, else
Are mah plants carnivorous and sentient yet? If not interest is low else "BUY BUY BUY!" :p

I though they said a while ago that a cloud overhaul was being worked on and was supposed to come with the next update. Hopefully it comes soon.

Really excited for the future of the Mp.

They worked a lot on this game and didn't let it rot. GG

I'm really excited for the future of this game in general if they keep updating it like this. It has so much potential. Still need taller environmental objects, more robust caves and underground terrain. This update though is no joke.

I'm glad I believed in Sean Murray. I said around launch that the game would practically be unrecognizable in a year after all the updates, and I'm glad they didn't disappoint. Still have my copy.

Without a doubt one of the most technically ambitious games ever made, and given time (and lots of money) I knew they could turn it in to what he had envisioned.
