Street Fighter V |OTVIIII| New Generation - Fighting Game Is Something So Great

Man how do you get better at confirming shit? Maybe practicing against CPU isn't really gonna help? I feel like there's no way to tell if something is gonna hit or not.

Hit confirming is hard because it's not about predicting whether something will hit; it's literally reacting at the moment of impact and either continuing the combo or doing something else (or nothing). Go into training mode and set the dummy to block randomly. Choose a simple 3 or 4 hit combo that starts with a jumping attack. If the dummy blocks the jump attack, stop attacking. If the jumping attack hits, finish the combo.

It's essential, I think, that you have the combo completely internalized before you bother to practice hit confirming it. You should be able to do it nearly 100% of the time without error and without having to think about it. Then work on hit confirming it.

What character are you playing and what attacks are you trying to hit confirm?

SFV's characters are not charismatic like Overwatch I would say.

Although SFV actually has a story while Blizzard sits on its great cast and makes tiny shorts of them.

Although SFV wishes it had something as addictive as lootboxes in terms of the grind. And SFV seems to update slower than OW although I could be mistaken, and doesn't have events or timed costumes nearly as fun as Lucioball. Olympic costumes, or the Halloween thing it did.

Overwatch's characters are plenty charismastic, but more than a Rashid, Karin, Juri, or Urien? Not so much. And that's not even getting into the timelessness of the SFII characters in SFV.

Also, lootboxes are a cynical, anti-consumer, slot-machine hustle. I'm surprised and thankful Capcom has kept them out of the game.

I would 100% accept lootboxes in SFVI as long as you can buy the cosmetics outright with cash and the gameplay stuff (characters, modes, and stages because why not) is 100% free, no catches or strings attached.

Like if you could just buy whatever you wanted in OW it would be a near perfect business model.

It depends. I don't think those characters get enough development outside of fighting. OW characters pop off the page even though they're just shooting most of the time.

They are, but they work. And it's not like you can't get the costumes with ingame currency otherwise.

IMO Abigail alone is probably more charismatic than most of the Overwatch cast combined. So much of OW is just a lot of bog standard superhero motif stuff and it's got such sanded down corners on it all, like I barely feel a thing for any of 'em.

And speaking of grind, at this point Overwatch just has a lack of polish in its basic gameplay and it's just so one note and simplistic in how it handles arcade that the game can't even bribe me with lootboxes to regularly play, which I find absolutely stunning because I figured FPS + Blizzard would be something that I couldn't put down. But with Street Fighter the addiction is always of that one more match, of learning a little bit more of a match-up, to hit confirm another super into a satisfying win. In Overwatch it's just bickering over character choices and being throttled by a game that does everything in its power to make the impact of an individual almost non-existent.

But you can't. Because lootboxes. They get people who are willing to spend money spending lots more because they're just purchasing lotto tickets. Like it's dope that you can unlock so much cosmetic stuff for free, but they make it all back by being very manipulative and holding back the purple and gold stuff while giving away hella sprays.

But OW sucks though...

Verloren almost taken out off screen while actually being on the stream by a random Japanese player that we've never heard of playing on a 3rd party PS4 pad with the Xbox stick layout. Would have been even nuttier if the Laura player actually won.

Man, I'll give Overwatch a lot of shit for being a boring simplistic shooter but I'm not gonna complain about its lootboxes. Its lootboxes are perfectly fine, they're just there as a hook to get you to play more, not necessarily dish out cash. They don't really do anything to make paying an alluring proposition.

If you wanna complain about lootboxes then look at Valve's methods and that is some skeevy ass psychologically manipulative preying bullshit. In Overwatch they only ever feel like extra, and it doesn't take long to just really get what you want for all the characters in your own play rotation.

I love Overwatch. Lootboxes are mobile game type shady, tho.
I mean, lootboxes in Overwatch are like the shit you get in treasure mode in Tekken 7. I was grinding out costumes in DOA2HC for hours all those years back and do that in a game nowadays and it's suddenly shady.

Shady is having things exclusive in boxes that you pay for with a 1% or less chance of getting them and being inundated with boxes that you can't open unless you pay for them (hello Counter-Strike), Overwatch is pretty benign in its approach. Like if they took out the lootbox packs to buy it wouldn't even feel out of place.

Overwatch system is pretty good for me considering the last online team game before it I had played was ME3.

All the shittiness of lootboxes, zero benefits. God that sucked.

I know, every time I watch Gunfight play, I'm always shocked by his liberal use of jab AA. It's still got uses but it's pretty risky.

As a Ryu player, I've gotten myself killed so many times trying to anti air jab. It took a while to get use to using it in S1. But since I've become so accustomed to it, it's so hard to break the habit of using it. I legit want to quit the move if I could and just go back to the tried and true cr. HP as my anti air normal. That was my go to button back in the early SF4 days.

But I just can't stop myself. It's a twitch reaction to hit jab when I'm being jumped at certain ranges and am not ready to DP. I could probably make a 1+ hour montage of my anti air jab fails if I saved every match where it happened lol.

99% of the rosters can still jab AA Nash.

"We heard you like this costume. Hope you don't mind grinding endlessly or gambling with your time and money to get it!"

Fuck off. The future of gaming is looking real tragic if trash like this continues.

Turn the dummy's guard in training mode to random:

Here's an UltraChen video on how to use it to practice hit confirms: https://youtu.be/4IoMUGFE46U?t=12m10s

Thanks guys, I'll practice with random blocks on training mode. I'm just trying to hit confirm Ed's Cr.MP into his fireball move which is pretty simple.
Also, completely unrelated but I've won 4 ranked matches in a row wooo

This game is fun as fuck.

hit confirming 1 medium attack is pretty hard, so dont feel bad if you cant do it. The easiest is to confirm 2 light attacks
