Rick and Morty S3 |OT| Keeping Summer Safe - Sundays on Adult Swim

So their dislike of Rick was so strong that they allowed countless lives to be taken just to avoid having to call him back?
I think that was done partly so you won't feel bad whey they get killed off by Rick's contraptions. But then, as Rick says, there is no real "good" or "evil".

That was my least favorite part of the episode actually, and I loved the rest of the season so far. It had absolutely no business being there and it makes no sense for Rick to be paranoid about such a thing.

Really took me out of the episode, actually.

Lol what? It's for the sake of comedy, Rick even said last episode (and in the first ep of s3) that 9/11 was an inside job, of course it doesn't make sense for Rick to think these things, that's what makes it funny.

In the first episode, all he said was that it was an excuse to take away your freedoms - which he was bang on the money with, no?

This season has been falling a bit flat for me, and I'm not sure why. I get that the point is that Rick is a supergenius who can do anything, and that's never bothered me before, but in most episodes recently it feels...unearned? There was no jeopardy because Rick will solve everything, and most of the jokes did nothing for me (although I did enjoy Rick jumping out in front of the guns when he'd covered them)

If you're expecting jeopardy in Rick and Morty, I think the problem lies within the viewer and not the content.

Plus, they've gone out of their way to take the power away from Rick this season, he got stuck as a Pickle last episode, so the whole crux of the episode was putting him in a vulnerable position for once, and in this one he forgot his portal gun and was pretty much powerless to do much of anything the whole episode, Morty was the one who solved everything.

When you look at all the traps Rick made, most of them were either simple, impossible to fail, or easy to solve due to Morty. The Starlord parody guy freaked out, showed his true colors right away, and got himself killed over the first puzzle where every answer was interchangeable, as Morty pointed out. The 3-pointer trap was both super simple to finish normally and featured a shitty bomb that Morty more or less defused himself. The final trap was either built for Morty to humiliate him, actually built for Noob Noob, or a fake trap that just needed the right amount of weight.

I don't think it was for Morty. The only reason Noob Noob wasn't on the mission was because he had to clean up Rick's crap, and the only reason Rick and Morty were involved in the Saw traps was because Rick forgot his portal gun. I don't think Drunk Rick planned on either of those things happening since they were both outliers accidentally caused by Rick himself.

I don't understand the complaints. Loved that episode, and an loving this season as a whole. It hasn't quite hit the heights of, say, Total Rickall, but it's been a blast to watch nonetheless.

I am slightly down on this season compared to the others. I hope the whole 'darkest year of our adventures yet' doesn't just mean a bunch of senseless killing, like it has so far. I don't feel the episodes have been as clever as the past seasons.

The first and third episode of this season have been among the series' best; the second and now this one are more lowkey affairs in comparison, if still enjoyable. I did think something was off about this one; with some of its quirks feeling unnatural (for example, the Israel bit went on for too long plus Rick giving a damn about justifying himself to others, with such desperation too, felt OOC). That said I laughed my ass off at the Valuable Morty bait n' switch (Was really fearing for a moment they were gonna play it straight, of course they wouldn't), Rick turning out to be the villain is just the kinda thing I watch this series for and there were many great lines scattered through.

I think the weakest part of the episode were the superhero characters themselves.

It feels like I've seen dysfunctional superhero parodies more than a dozen times now.

It feels like very shallow parodies.

Though I'm biased since I've seen better parodies on venture brothers for example and even in superhero stuff

Pretty much, there is no beating Venture Bros. with super hero and villain parodies.

Hell, even just looking at hero/villian name lists in Venture bros. warrants a chuckle.

I still laugh out loud when i remember the two face parody is called "Radical Left".

Rick became a pickle for an entire episode

And I thought that was a better episode than S3:2 and S3:4. But it doesn't stay bizarre throughout the episode - it very quickly just becomes cool show of resourcefulness.

It isn't nearly as bizarre and blindsiding as something like 'X gon' give it to ya', and those tend to be my favourite moments.

Honestly it seems like they just mentioned that planet thing so you wouldn't feel bad
about them all dying
and make Rick come out of top cause he "owns" his asshole-ness.

But Rick didn't come out on top. You thought he would at the end and then he doesn't when he basically admits he would have fucked over Morty.

I'm wondering if some of the backlash to this season from some people is just HOW bleak it can be at times. Like someone above said this episode is basically Meeseks and Destroy but without Rick being nice to Morty. Like I dont mind the show being dark but it feels like this season focused on more on how "no one belongs anywhere" and less on "watching tv".

I'm sure it's different for others and I still like the show but for me if you dont have even the slightest bit of hope it gets harder for me to watch.

I think, underneath it all. Rick is still a nice guy.

He's just super depressed about most things and doesn't know how to let his emotions out. He already showed he cares about his grandkids in S2E1. He seems to generally care about his Morty, too after all the shit they've been through together.

I think in the end he'll come around. But it won't be till the end of the series.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
Adult Swim's video player is fucking horrendous. Worked perfectly fine for me last week but once I needed to login with my cable provider it goes to shit.

Seasons 1 and 2 managed jeopardy no problem, it doesn't need to be life or death, but it can be grating if you know there will always be an immediate solution, especially if the jokes aren't there.

Sub-par Ricky and Morty is still pretty damn good. Case in point, E2 and 4 this season.
Yeah I agree 2 and 4 are subpar but still decent episode. I don't think they are bad episodes this season

Plus we still had 1 and 3, which were great episodes

Rick warned us that this would be the darkest year of their adventures.

Great episode, if not as good as the last one.

Nah, Rick is totally an asshole and the antagonist of the series. I think the first episode of this season showed that pretty well.

He may care about Morty and Summer but his complete disregard for everyone else is pretty monstrous.

That was a good episode. I was just watching the Meeseeks episode the other day so it was neat to see a call back to Morty getting to choose one out of every 10 adventures.

Is this the first time they introduced The Vindicators? I don't remember them.
Yes, and the fact that they treat them as if we've seen them before is part of the joke. It's supposed to be a joke about the crazy amount of superhero movie sequels. The Vindicators' first appearance is a "sequel" to an adventure that the audience never saw.

I think these episodes have been pretty good. I'm not sure what people really want, and judging by the negative posts, neither do they.

The problem with genuine character moments always being undercut by realizing most of these characters and especially rock are horrible people, is that it's gets too predictable. You know it isn't Morty who's the answer to the final test because that would be genuine. It's undercut for a laugh. how many times in a row can you do that and still have it be funny. I mean as of right now it is, but i definitely the feel diminishing returns. Characters can't grow and are locked in stasis.
