Intel just announced Icelake CPU which is the next architectural step plus new 10nm+ process.
It will likely come with with PCI-e 4.0, new Intel 4-core Audio standard, and USB gen 2 (2x bandwidth).
I have two 24 inch monitors with different resolution, when I move the mouse between them it doesn't line up properly at the same relative place and there's also this annoying wall where the mouse gets stuck. Anyone know how to fix this? I tried google but found nothing...

I've had a 1070 Zotac Amp in my home theater pc which is running well. Crazy that the Zotac 1070 amp costs more now than when I bought it at 1070 launch. If you can find one.
I've finally ordered parts for my first PC build. I've never built one before but I've wanted to for a long time. I've been bad about putting it off though, mainly because I kept second guessing myself on the parts and was nervous to build it. I've been watching a lot of build videos though and it doesn't seem so bad. I've also been liking what I've seen from Ryzen, so when I saw it on sale earlier today, I decided to just go for it. This is what I ended up going with. This was basically my budget, so hopefully for the price I ended up with good parts. I do already have harddrive that I'll be adding to this build as well.

I got a 1060 Strix a couple of days ago from Microcenter. They don't even let you do store pickup ahead of time. You have to actually go into the store and get it.

Hello PC Gaf, I've never built my own PC before. I bought a pre built Costco pc, upgraded it, and it's lasted me 5 or 6 years.
However, I can't run pubg very well and my computer will randomly restart when playing. Which I'm attributing to overheating (Ran a stress test getting 90+ Celsius on cpu and 80+on gpu). I didn't take care of it very well and that's my own fault for being irresponsible.
I'm looking to build my own PC from scratch and start fresh.

Here, I saved you some money. How old is your PSU? If it's older than 3 years old, replace it. The CPU comes with a good cooler, unless you really want an AIO.

The PC build your friends put together is absolutely fine for 1080p/144 with gsync (in the future), just some notes.
The 7700k is currently the best option for high fps gaming, but intels coffee lake line up is supposed to be available later this year. It might be worth waiting for it, especially if you want a more "futureproof" CPU. Also, if you don't plan to play above 60fps amds ryzen 5 1600 is a great offering and cheaper than the 7700k (and probably still good enough for 75-90 fps, which will most probably be the limit a 1070 is able to hit at 1080p).
If you want to spend money on a good thermal compound to get extra 1-2° of cooling power get the thermal grizzly kryonaut and not the arctic silver.
The MSI Z270-a is a very good mb, but it only runs the Realtek ALC892 sound codec (it's big fllow imo). Which is okay if you plan to use an USB headset or if you plan to use audio over hdmi, but the asus z270-a uses the Realtek® ALC S1220A (+ better sound channel build quality). The difference is like day 'n night if you use a headset with normal jacks (preferable over usb connection) on the asus a over the msi a. It also offers DTS Connect and DTS Headphone:X, which further improves the sound quality and emulates 3D audio on stereo headset very good. I'd even say the audio quality on the asus z270 a is better than on the xfi audio soundcard from creative.
If you really plan to go for 144 Hz, think about getting a GTX 1080.
The Corsair - H100i v2 is a good performer, but it is loud af. Something most people don't mention when recommending it. I had one for some time and gladly went back to dual air tower coolers.

Just a note on the R5 1600, it's quite capable of hitting 144FPS and up when paired with a GTX 1080.
That's my set up. I get really good frames in R6 Siege. About 150-160 average. Lowest dips to 100FPS and that's only on some (badly optimised) maps.
Other games, like Superhot (obviously not a demanding game) stays completely locked at 144FPS.
Obviously on average the i7 7700K will out perform it, but it depends on how much value you put on the gap in performance.
I looked at it in the sense that there was a 10-20 gap in frames and £110 difference in just the CPU. The AM4 platform will be supported for 4 more years, so I can definitely upgrade my CPU down the line to keep up for 144hz gaming if necessary, whereas with the 7700K, I was sure the socket wouldn't last that long, meaning new motherboard and CPU to upgrade that kinda set up in the future.

would upgrading from my 6700K (4.5ghz) to a 8700K be a bad idea if i'm not planning on going beyond 60hz? i'm at 1080/1440p 60hz right now and will hopefully go up to 2160p. not too interested in 144hz as 60 is enough for me.

windows will install some signed drivers by it self
install newer drivers and check Clean install

As for Windows, never install driver software from Windows update under device installation settings.

How come?
In the past it often led to 'black screen' on boot/restart caused by Windows trying to update a driver which had already been updated with a different version.
The solution was to boot into safe mode, uninstall the drivers entirely and then reinstall them 'fresh'. I've not had this issue in a long time though so YMMV.

If it's just for gaming then I wouldn't bother, the gains would be almost non-existent for you based on previous evidence. If you're going for 4K down the line, GPU power will be more important for you, since the GPU becomes the bottleneck at those high resolutions.

We're getting (back) there. It might be a while before you see US$0.20/GB but there's a few options back in the US$0.26 range. The drive I linked to is 30% more expensive than your target but PCPP price history shows it was about US$200 last summer.

Yo! So I've finally decided to get into PC Gaming. Been a console/handheld guy all my life. Customizability, back/future compat, free online gaming has won me over. Also, more Japanese support nowadays (excited that DB Fighterz and MH World are coming to PC! Now Sega, port those Atlus games) is good to see.
General usage and gaming will be the primary purposes. Targeting 1080p 60 fps for the most part, but on an ultrawide monitor. So ideally, 2560x1080 is the resolution I'd like, at 60fps.
Here are the parts I've seeked out! Oh, I live in Ireland and it seems like Amazon UK is the safest and cheapest place to get parts. I've not shopped around much, but for such expense I would like to buy from a reliable source, and Amazon UK have not failed me over the past few years.

Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB Mini GDDR5. Went for the 6gb for 'future-proofing'. However, I went with the x370 board for that multi GPU support that DirectX12 is getting. I saw in a tech deals video (13:50) that it doesn't matter what GPUs you have either, so it seems like a good safety net to invest in in case games start to struggle to get 60 fps on the 1060? It would be nice to just be able to add another card, rather than replacing it. Perhaps 1080s will be cheapre in a few years and the two will make a great combo. If I'm incorrect in my understanding of this, then I may downgrade to a b350 board, but that audio boost feature is nice too on the x370.
These are the speakers, haha. Just a standard wireless mouse and keyboard combo. Going wireless as being able to easily move them around is kind of essential as I'd shift them over to draw a pen & paper design for my studies & work (UX Design). Bonus that both the keyboard and the mouse are quiet, so I can work away at night. Hopefully wireless isn't terrible for gaming though? I'm not competitive by any means, more of a have fun but play to win guy.
Of course, these aren't all the parts! I have a 3tb Toshiba P300 hard drive 7200rpm which will do for now and a friend of mine has some spare pc parts, so I'm going to see if he's got an ATX case lying around and maybe even a power supply. One question though: How much wattage should I go for? 600W? 550W?
Another thing, I'm not in a rush to build this PC, but I'm sick of working on my laptop and would love to start working away on that lovely ultrawide sooner rather than later. Aiming for within the next month to build it!
