I am assuming it will be a murder mystery, like all his games before, and murders usually occur at night (in fiction anyway). Since no human being could stand to see a dead puppy, SWERY wisely chose cats as the target animal. So really, this is better for dog lovers.

WTF? No. SWERY had a big following before D4. Deadly Premonition was a more successful game than D4.

LMAO AT THE GAME CONCEPT XD

Also, I find it awesome the town or city's called Rainy Woods, which I believe was the original title for Deadly Premonition at one point...SWERY sure loves referencing in-development names of stuff in his later works :] (I believe main protag. of D4, David Young, was partially named after the original name of Deadly Premonition's Agent York, who was in development called David Young Henning I think)

Happy to be backer #159!

Game sounds great, I really hope this gets funded, only ever crowdfunded campaigns I've contributed to were Rock Band 4 PC and Project Rap Rabbit and neither of those got anywhere near their goal, so I'm hoping this doesn't suffer the same fate.

Bummed this won't be coming to Xbox after the original (and superior) version of Deadly Premonition and D4 were both MS exclusives, guess I'm all in for the Steam release then.

I'm a backer now as well.

I loved Spy Fiction, I loved Deadly Premonition, I loved D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, and I love SWERY as a person (he's a good, endearing, and interesting man). As far as I'm concerned, I'm in for all of his projects for life.

Hope it makes the goal, it does have a couple uphill battles, but I think there are many who do have a love for his quirky games.

Not the sort of art style I'd expect from a swery game but I'll try anything the makes and I'm really interested in his take on rural england.

So what do you do?

From the FIG page:

Play as Naomi, a photographer from New York who finds herself stuck in Rainy Woods, a backwoods town in rural England... For it's the only way for her to pay off the massive debt she's accumulated.

She's earning money to pay off a great debt she has by taking on an offer to pay off more and more of her debt if she goes to the town of Rainy Woods to cover and photograph the mysterious and bizarre town and find out its secrets to someone paying her to spy and learn about the town for them. While she's staying there, she's exploring and doing misc things in the town to get close to the inhabitants and learn more, and do what the player wants as there's some open world town-RPG elements to it of just living in the town and getting to know people, helping them out, getting to know their routines, etc. However, there's also some big mysteries to the town, including that everyone, herself included, turns into a cat at night.

There's also a murder mystery as someone was found dead in the town.

Here's the game flow chart they have describing the first 'act' of the game and the beginning of the second act:

On the FIG page is also a big game break-down with pictures and explaining the games elements like exploring the town, taking photos, and more, but it's pretty lengthy and I don't think they'd appreciate me posting all of it here. But know photography is a big part of the gameplay.

Well how can you not back this? Sounds rad.

Also, I'm very interested in this guy's interpretation of an English rural community. I mean, I know from experience that he's going to have to pull out all the stops if he's going to create a cast of characters that are anywhere near as weird as your average real life villager over here.

Swery and his team did a lot of research about small towns in the American Pacific Northwest for DP, so it's probably going to be an informed one.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm very skeptical of this. Swery's got brilliant ideas, but who's going to develop this?

If he doesn't have more than good ideas and artwork, it's going to fail. Look at Rap Rabbit.
Crowdfunding succeeds primarily on getting people attention and then giving them incentive. SWERY has a huge cult following, and if they can get an effective pitch out there, this will surely go over 1.5 million, unless they horribly mismanage it.

White Owls, G-rounding, and Camouflaj

Swery and his staff at White Owls will provide creative and artistic direction. Yukio Futatsugi and his staff at G-rounding will manage the production and game creation. Ryan Payton from Camouflaj will support production and supervise.

You forgot another major driver: CATS. The internet loves them some felines.

I love everything Swery does, and cats/photography give me life. So, I'm there day 1.
