I went from Tekken to P4/Xrd just fine. Takes a while to adjust, but it's still fun learning anyway. Nothing wrong with that.

I just spent the most time on Tekken, is all.

KOF XIV is $20, the character pass for it is $8, and SFV's costume pack is $18 for PS+ members right now.

I'm tempted because KOFXIV is the one fighting game I own physically. But also I never play it so double dipping is insane. How much does the Deluxe edition go for with the art book and everything? If I sell/trade that for $20 in PSN credit I would definitely do it (and not having to pay shipping fees, of course).

I also want to buy that SFV S1 costume pack on discount but I don't play any of those characters, except Karin, so that's also dumb. But I main Rog so going dumb is all I know.

Admitting it is the first step.
I can't imagine going from Tekken to anime or vice versa. I can barely function going from SF to MvC or GG.
It just takes time. It gets challenging when you're first learning it, especially if it's a game that plays somewhat similar (like KI and Street Fighter) but overtime it just becomes muscle memory to the point where you don't even need to think about the switch.

The weirdest thing about Tekken is how defense is inverted from nearly every 2D fighter because you're primarily stand blocking everything as opposed to crouch blocking. Breaking that habit was the tricky part.

Why did you drop BB?
for reasons that annoy people if I bring it up again

Speaking of tekken bugs

That's what started this convo.
I feel like I then walked into this conversation afterwards cuz I didnt even see bugs mentioned til I posted. Carry on then my bad.

I need to make a gif the next time I clip someone against the corner on devil's pit or uh..the other rocky stage...that one causing teleporting is the one driving me the most nuts.

EDIT: Oh it was in a twitter link...I never click those. So at least we now have a nice embedded link for everyone to see

Dude, does anyone have a link to that storytime with Aris about the dude who puked in finals at some tournament and held it in his mouth the whole match?

I can't find it anywhere.

Ask n0pants I guess.

I know what you're talking about but it was a while back

I thought harder hits beat neutral guard?

Either way, it shouldn't matter. If there's a glitch in the game, the devs should solve the problem, not the players. Crossups don't exist in Tekken, so to have one arbitrarily exist due to a fucked up camera makes absolutely no sense. It's not like this is new, too, as this has existed since at least March a year ago.

Standing neutral guard typically blocks one move or string (not high/low), after that you have to block manually. If you've been hit it also won't block anything following that.

Crossups do exist in Tekken. They are rare and usually happen at the wall, but it's not new to Tekken 7. Camera tricks were even legit strategies in Tekken Tag 1.

All that aside, yes they should make the camera more reliable during rage arts.

I think Super DBZ is stupid. I mean I know they just randomly came up with stuff just for the sake of continuing the series but now it's getting ridiculous. So I'm guessing SSJ Rainbow is going to be the ultimate form somewhere down the line.

You might be thinking of Dragon Ball Super. Super DBZ is the Arcade/PS2 game made by ARIKA in 2006.

Yesterday at Japan Cup, Capcom Producer Tomoaki Ayano announced that in addition to the hype of Tokyo Game Show this year, there will be a special eight man invitational bout with a hefty prize pool.

The Shoryuken Tournament at TGS 2017 will be held on September 24th at 3 p.m. Japan time (September 24th at 2 a.m. PDT) and will grant the first and second place finishers 1,000,000 ($9,160 USD) and 500,000 yen respectively.

There will be four Japanese competitors, Topanga winner AW|Nemo, EVO champion FOX|Tokido, RB|Bonchan and GRPT|Fuudo.

Singapore and Taiwan will have representation via RZR|Xian and ZW|GamerBee respectively, and America will have two of its boys in the fight with second place EVO finisher, PG|Punk, and Capcom Cup champ, Liquid|NuckleDu.

Why is it this year that Capcom finally opens up the purse strings for TGS?

Hi guys, don't want to derail the discussion, but I just have one main question: Why did SF X Tekken not have any staying power? Was it all the malarky with the gems? or as I recall (perhaps incorrectly) that it was PS exclusive? I've been playing the game and it is a lot of fun (once again, assuming you ignore the gem bullshit)

also, if someone could download three of my replays so I can get the trophy that would be swell. Sorry to ask but you know how it goes. PSN is Hycran

It wasn't PS exclusive, but the PS version had 5 bonus characters. Funny thing is that I remember that data for MegaMan and Pacman were found in the PC version but nothing came of it in the end. 2 vs 2 was also borked on the 360 if I'm not mistaken so that might as well have been a PS exclusive, too.

As for why it failed, I think these were the main factors:

1- The gems. They really felt like a pointless cash grab that hurt the balance. Didn't help that some of the good ones had to be bought.

2- The DLC fiasco. Having all those complete characters locked on disc and just sitting on them until the Vita port was ready did the games reputation no favor, either.

3- Balance and battle system were off and made the game not fun to play or watch. I only came after v.2013 so I never experienced this, though.

4- First (and only) EVO showing for the game had mandatory teams of 2 if you wanted to play. Players didn't like that at all and it ended up being overshadowed by the game it was meant to replace.

It may be more that because this is an invitational event and not something people are paying entry fees for, they may actually be able to put up the money for it.

I do know that laws regarding skill-based contests in Japan are really bizarre. I wonder if it's the difference between invitational events vs. open entry tournaments. And would qualification-based events (such as ArcRevo or King of Iron Fist) be considered an invitational? It's all kind of bizarre.

It showed up again next year at EVO with 1v1 but the harm was already done.

Also, gems really made random online games unplayable too, which hurt the game a lot in the long run, even past the inertial backlash:

Game had a lot of problems (gems, DLC, balance...), but the thing that sealed its fate is that Capcom continued to support SFIV. So no need to switch.

In addition to what was already mentioned SFxT looked very much like SF4, a game that was four years older, but with some garish filters that served to make everything look uglier. And SF4 wasn't a pretty game to begin with.

Reusing assets was perfectly fine considering the huge roster but when Capcom would reuse sprites in games like MvC or CvS usually the stuff surrounding the characters (backgrounds, UI, hit sparks, etc.) looked like a modest upgrade. SFxT was hideous all-around. Capcom is lucky SFxT didn't have staying power otherwise they'd be hit with a class action lawsuit after players lost their eyesight from staring too long at the game's burnt neon aesthetic.

Yeah xTs graphical style was kinda baffling

Dev 1: "This is a crossover between Street Fighter and Tekken. What's the ugliest thing about Tekken that we can use as the basis for the game's art design?"

Dev 2: "Uh, those goofy hit sparks they've been using since the PS1 that looked like they were created by a kid with a cracked copy of Photoshop in 1995?"

Dev 1: "Perfect! We'll smear everything in neon, fire, lightning, and flaming lightning."

What went on during anime suites was not esports friendly. Surprised him and Obama are even allowed to commentate anything. Eyes are everywhere and these guys in the spotlight have to know that.

Sure.

Your cat is always in a crouching state. How does this make you feel?

I liked playing Ammy and Yoda, so this may sustain me.

The stuff with Jiyuna does not surprise me too much, but I am surprised he got harsher treatment than Zhi did (where sometimes Zhi is just another Cross Counter-esque incident waiting to happen).

in what universe does the fgc need to gain legitimacy in competitive gaming? what the fuck does that even mean?
Fighting games are already legitimate. What Enzo meant was that FGC events and game companies need to keep it professional so that sponsors actually pour money in and fighting game developers actually care enough to invest into the competitive aspect of the games.

Otherwise you have Daigo and co playing for chump change while Kuroky is earning 10 million in DOTA 2.

It's in everyone's best interest that FGs get to a level where if you are good at a game then you can compete full time and not worry about paying the bills or putting food on the table. You can't do that if you don't have sponsors or big E sports teams.

There was talk of this in the IJ2 OT, but if Atom does indeed make it in then will that be the first character in a fighting game who's "gimmick" is changing their size (to smaller) than they are?
