Most Shameless Product Placement in Games

Title says it all.

I'll go with the Mercedes Karts in Mario Kart 8. They're just... So strange, tonally. Cartoons flinging turtle shells at the body styled after a luxury sedan?

I don't drive the the German cars in Mario Kart because I'm Jewish and it's one of those unwritten rules.

By the way, Pikmin 2 was all about this:

I literally stopped playing and was staring at my TV in shock when the characters in FFXV were having a serious discussion about the nutritional value and how delicious Cup Noodles are. I felt disgusted.

Sonic proved he was the ultimate sellout in Sonic Adventure 2 by shunning his iconic red sneakers in favor of Soap shoes.

Game has a bunch of Soap advertisements all over the place as well.

The best part is it was brought to Mario Maker and was one of the best promoted levels (it's use of scrolling is so good and is overall some great MM level design).

Alright but I don't think you could of picked a worst example - the Mercedes Benz cars are fantastic

Is there anything as bad as that Dunkin Donuts scene in Jack and Jill for games? I really don't think so.

Maybe the Cup Noodle thing in FF XV but that seems way more tongue in cheek.

I find it kind of delightfully strange, but Jet Moto, a PS1 game mind you, had 2/4 of its vehicle paint jobs literally be advertisements.

Alan Wake had an achievement tied to the in game product placement. You had to turn on a TV and watch commercials.

You know, this one I don't mind. As long as it fits thematically, I can stomach an in-your-face piece of advertising.

It's in those other games where it is clearly a stretch that it bothers me. The ones where 99% of the items you have are generic, and then you find a pair of Timberland Boots or something.

Still cars you drive.

Karts like this exist for little kids you can buy.

Those still male sense in the game world.

Super Monkey Ball:

Dole

Bananas.

These were hilariously awesome.

Cup Noodles

See this is the correct answer.

The other examples at least have a logic to them or go so far like a fighting character or game that you are agape.

The Cup Noodle in FFXV is neither of these. Completely out of place but not done to the level of insanity needed.

Isn't that optional free DLC though?

Hehe, I think it's strangely Nintendo like for them to do such a thing personally :p Many people I know IRL like the Mercedes cars in this game, and although I dont' use them often myself I like the wierdness of it all :p

For my original answer to this thread...I haven't came across it myself in Alan Wake in my first playthrough of it, but I've heard of Microsoft shamelessly self-promoting their own stuff like I think Xbox Live and more in that game, as they were the publisher for it...I find it cool though that IIRC, you can, with a mobile device IRL, scan a QR code present in the game itself and I think it gives you access to a free trial for Xbox Live or something like that.

Although I don't consider it shameless for some reason, also in Alan Wake, I just...found it straight up odd/weird that something like the Energizer batteries weren't falsified/parodied like most product placements in any media typically are. It's straight-up the actual brand...I sort of liken it to seeing someone without glasses on after you're used to seeing them on w/ glasses for a while

Similarly, Mountain Dew and Doritos in the Japanese version of Peace Walker.

And Calorie Mate in Metal Gear Solid 3.

And, of course, having an iPod for playing music, Otacon using a Mac (which is ridiculous) and gushing over Blu-Ray discs in MGS4.

Wasn't Cup Noodle in there too?
