Samsung Pay is amazing.

You can use it basically anywhere since it uses a technology that mimics the magnetic strip on cards. Also, you get reward points just for using it which can be redeemed for all kinds of different things including digital prepaid cards that you can spend with Samsung Pay. And they have all kinds of promos. For example, I got $15 just for using my USAA card three times.

I don't even bother with regular cards anymore unless I'm someplace where you have to give it to someone to swipe.

I just wanted to give people a heads up because I never see anyone use it. Even some cashiers apparently never see it because some have told me it won't work and are surprised when it does.

Shame in the US most restaurants won't bring like a machine over to ya to pay your stuff like in other countries.

Also can never get it to work in gas stations. Otherwise it's quite nice!

There's no terminals without chip/tap around here, and all of my cards are programmed to reject the magnetic swipe on POS terminals with chip/tap, so that tech is so redundant in like 99% of Canada.

So Samsung has its own reward points program for Samsung Pay? That sounds pretty good actually.

Magnetic strip simulation is good in countries where that's still prevalent, I guess. It's no longer accepted as a payment method in Australia. It's all NFC tap to pay here, but chip and pin as a backup if NFC is down or some person doesn't trust tap to pay for whatever eason.

You hold the phone up to the card reader and the reader thinks you swiped a card (assuming it doesn't have an NFC reader).
It really works on kiosks without NFC? That is pretty cool.

Our POS system has icons for apple, Samsung, and Android. But I've only ever see people use iPhones. It's pretty rare tbh, thought it's catch on quicker.

How does it work? You show the cashier your phone and they scan something? I am confuse
It works like NFC payments except on any card reader that isn't slot loading.

It basically stores a copy of your card and then transmits the data in the same way a card swipe works. Just from your phone instead.

Yep, it most definitely works.

I use Android Pay and I've never come across a place where it hasn't worked.

It's also even more secure than a regular chip card, as it generates a new PIN for each transaction. So the same card details can't be used more than once.

Apple Pay - released October 20, 2014, planning started in 2013, worked with Mastercard and Visa directly with employees at those companies working on the project in secret.

Samsung Pay - released August 20, 2015, came into existence via purchase of LoopPay in February 2015.

Just another ripped off, rushed technology from Samsung, really disappointing, even the name was a blatant rip off.

I frequently double up my cash back rewards card and Samsung Pay. They have amazing promos going as well while trying to gain traction. This month I got a free $10 Amazon credit for using a Capital One card with Samsung Pay three times. I'd shill this thing all day. It's free money.

Edit: Talk about an edit fail. Was meant to modify my first post.

Or.. I meant to log into my other Samsung shill account! You pick.

Damn shame this technology is owned by Samsung. Feels like every phone should be capable of.
The magnetic strip simulation is kinda limited in utility though since they rolled it out when practically every country has deprecated it or at least started to. Which countries still allow use of the strip and how prevalent it is vs chip and pin or NFC in those countries?

Samsung Pay is better though since you can use it places without NFC.

I always though slide mechanisms relied on direct contact with the magnetic strip. Somehow emulating a magnet seems cooler than NFC. Could you turn the phone into a super magnet?

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
Only available with one bank here in Canada :/

I use Android Pay a lot though. I like the ability to pay without unlocking my phone and I also like the e-receipts that are immediately available when you pay.

99% of stores have the ability to read chip cards. The problem is most stores disable the chip function because they don't want to pay the processing fees or set up the infrastructure required. Very few large chain store accept chip cards.
Wow, that's so stupid. Why do banks charge more for chip payments? It's in their best interests to switch to chip and NFC since it's more secure and saves them money they'd otherwise have to reimburse due to card fraud.

Ever since I started using Apple Pay (in Canada) I can't even imagine going back. Works everywhere as well. Glad there's another that has joined the mobile payment ranks. Time to ditch the cash and plastic asap.

Yeah, any time I've ever actually NEEDED Samsung Pay to work, it's always one of the rare situations where it doesn't work.

Like I'll go pick up some take-out I ordered and I forgot my wallet. I whip out my phone and tell them it'll work with whatever machine they have, but they have to be able to see the card number or something, and Samsung Pay hides all but the last 4 digits.

And I thought I heard Europe was way ahead of the US in supporting NFC payments, but when I traveled in France+Italy and lost my wallet, there was barely any stores that worked with Samsung Pay (thank god my girlfriend still had her cards, and I could transfer money to her online). Even Samsung's facy tech that lets it work with swiper machines didn't work at a lot of places over there (most of them are the chip/plug kind), but most either didn't have the NFC activated or it wasn't even supported.

Yea the Samsung Pay thing is pretty good, paired with NFC and keeping a chipped card in your wallet you pretty much cover all the bases in US. Sadly many places within the US still use the mag strip.

I want to use it, but I also really do not want to make a Samsung Account. I hate how that's required to use so much of their phones.

You would give them your card details but you're hesitant to sign up for an account? Why?
