Uncharted: The Lost Legacy - Review Thread

The Eurogamer reviewer sounds like they have never played an UC game before......

It's a short game, taking eight hours or so to finish, and this might be the best thing about it. Reserve is not one of Uncharted's virtues and the games have rarely left you wanting more.

At less than half the usual running time, though, each gameplay component has enough room to breathe but not enough to get tiresome or for its lack of depth to be too harshly exposed.

Oh ok, i wonder how they managed to finish the game in 6 hours.

better players, faster players, difficulty settings, collectibles, mystery(not going to spoil it) stuff, exploration, alternate paths to the same locations, long way rounds and so forth.
I do wonder how many folks...uhm explored some stuff.

I watched our reviewer playing the game, not really rushing, just play like a normal player, not a lot of treasure hunting. It took him less than 7 hours. I think he is on the faster side though.

No they are right. I was glad it was over after 8 hours. Without any new elements it shouldnt be longer, its good this way.

Edit: glad it was over sounds harsher than I mean, but really its the perfect length. I wasnt left wanting more.

That's not what I was referring to, in what alternate reality is 8 hours half the usual running time? UC4 was the longest by a significant margin and it was still only 12 or so hours long.

So, they lied about the 10 hours campaign?

Not really. In April they said 10 hours and then in June they said:
”It's longer than some previous Uncharted games — and not as long as Uncharted 4,"
Uncharted 1-3 can take 5-8 hours to finish. Uncharted 4 can last longer than 10hrs.

I was taken a bit out of context there. I was discussing how our initial pitches for the game went from "DLC" length of a couple of hours to all of a sudden estimated 10 hour game just based on the narrative pitch.

Didn't matter too much since at the time our focus testing sessions were coming in around that time. My final pre-release playthrough at work wasn't too far off.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can rush through things if you want, it's all about playstyle.

- Took me 8 hours to beat the game, optional quest in West Ghats included. Since that eats up some time, I'd say it's about 7 hours for the main quest. Got 55/68 treasures.
- The West Ghats are what Madagascar should have been. There are a bunch of locations to explore and I'd recommend you do the optional quest, even though you might think the reward is disappointing. I loved this entire area and spent yesterday loading it from chapter select and replaying it.
- The game is leaner than most Uncharted games and the pacing is better. There's still an intro but it's short and tense.
- There's a good variation of every Uncharted staple. There are more puzzles than you'd expect and less combat encounters than I expected. Traversal was handled better than U4 imo.
- Villain Asav starts out promising, but [plot spoiler]
turns into a screaming madman anyway near the end. Final fight is also another fistfight.
One of the more disappointing aspects of the game. Villains just aren't Uncharted's strength.
- The finale is pretty exciting. It's like
a combination of U2's train sequence and the chase from U4
. I feel like some players may be down on it because it's essentially nothing new, but I loved it.
- The vistas are spectacular... graphically this is up there with U4.
- Chloe and Nadine may not bring their quip game like Nate and Sully, but it's nice to see their relationship/trust evolve throughout the mission.
- Overall: this is what I wanted U4 to be in the first place. The game's biggest strength is its limited length and better pacing. I wanted to replay it immediately after, while I didn't feel like going through U4 again after it ended.

I would give it an 8/10. This really feels like Uncharted: greatest hits and I'd recommend this game to people new to the series. Gameplay-wise it's a much better experience than U4 for me.

I understand, i've missed the "not as long as Uncharted 4".

Our review (it's in Portuguese).

Zwame - 9/10

I translated the conclusion.

It's no surprise that Naughty Dog delivers a quality product, but it's impressive that the studio has managed to create a good Uncharted game without Nathan Drake in a little over a year. Yes, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is not the Uncharted we all know, but that's not a bad thing. Chloe and Nadine have enough capacity and are more than ready to carry the Uncharted series forward. And I hope this happens.

I really enjoyed this new duo. It was great to see how this two alphas reacted and evolved throughout the story. And some set pieces....

Congrats on the new release. Hopefully this does well for you guys. I'm definitely picking it up.

I am not reading reviews, as always, but how is the villain @ACG and others?

Now that the embargo is over. Strange requirement for that to and I talked about it a bit in my review.
But at the start the main enemy is ok basically any typical 1980's movie enemy, devolves into uselessness midgame, and the
end battle is fucking horrible. VERY end. Not most of the setpeice thats fine

Eurogamer beat it in 8-hours? Goddamn.

I took around 12 to finish it off. My review of the game is over at USgamer right now.
Good Review by the way

Good to read about the pacing, sad about the villains :(

Well if it's taking some reviewers 6 and it took them 8, UC4 could have easily taken them 16.

And the other 3 games in the series this assumption is based on?

Why? All four full Uncharted games have worn out their welcome at a certain point before the credits rolled. Padding has always been a problem for the series.

I completely disagree with that, but that's not what I was talking about.

Easy. A huge chunk of the game is semi-open world. If you dart to each of the three main objectives and complete them it would shorten the game significantly. There's a lot of extra stuff to do that you could skip. Also depends on whether you stealth or fight your way through. Stealth tends to take more time but is rewarding. If you just blast through everything, though, it should go by more quickly.

Thanks! :D This was a crazy one and hard to tell where we were going to end up, hoping that what we were trying to accomplish was coming through.

I'm very excited to pick this up on the 23rd and it's great that it's getting so many great reviews. Congrats to the team!

That's sad to hear, especially since UC4 had such a great one.

If people are curious about the optional quest in the West Ghats, here are the full details:
you have to find 11 hidden tokens to unlock an extra shrine that grants you a treasure-sensing necklace, which is a huge help of course. Also, monkeys!

It's worth doing it because it gives you extra puzzles/fights. I really wanted to see what it unlocked as well.

I don't think it has ever been a problem for the series and not a single Uncharted game has ever worn out its welcome for me.
