Crackdown 3 delayed to Spring 2018

Yea, just keep doing this.

An abosutely stunning rebuttal. Your wit is truly amazing.

Nice. That brings up a good point... MS only has to release one decent game (Horizons 89% metacritic) to be on par with Sony's first party offerings for the entire year.

Look, I'm all for going to bat for Microsoft/Xbox because I feel like they do a lot of good things, many of which they don't get a whole lot of credit for here on GAF. That said, can we stop trying to shit on Sony as a way to justify Microsoft's decisions?

Imo the XBX needed a showpiece premium piece of first party software to help galvanise interest, conversation and sales of the hardware.

Crackdown 3 was never that but it could've proved to be an extra feather in their cap for Xmas this year.
Star Wars and CoD will not totally provide that either as they can be played elsewhere I feel (could be totally wrong there)

But hopefully the game will have a bit of breathing space in spring 2018 for them.

What's bizarre to me is the absolute radio silence on destruction in MP!
That coupled with the delay and Alanah Pearce [IGN] insider info about C3 from last night (taken with a pinch of salt) doesn't particularly bode well for the entire project..

So MS run Xbox as service. Meaning they are banking on their user base to buy more services and items. Eventually to grow the revenue from the service they need to grow their user base. So if Xbox one is not aimed to grow the user base, then what is? their sales of Xbox one hardware this year have been really bad and that's in their own home market.

What makes you think they want to grow it?

The road so far:
-3-5 studio closures (forget the exact count)
-no studio purchases (that make console exclusives)
-no AA or AAA 3rd party (non-timed) exclusive announcements in at least 2 years (meaning contracts date back even further)
-implementation of play anywhere

Looks like intentional downsizing.

The power of the cloud was only a fraud. Shocking

But it's good that all the lies from MS the last years are now finally catching them up

And corroborated by folks like Shinobi, Matt, and Nirolak. At this point, if you can't see the telltale signs of de-emphasizing exclusive development, you're sticking your head in the sand.

Bad news for MS 2017 exclusive line up.

Good news for MS 2018 Line up.

Good news for Crackdown itself. It won't get lost in the fall game deluge and will have much better sales/success/visibility with a spring release.

And here I was, worried MS was going to force me to get an Xbox One X at launch to play Crackdown 3 on because it was going to be so awesome compared to. Regular XBONE.

Its better to delay it than to send it to death in november. Im certain it wouldnt even chart in npd. But it might shape 2018 nicely for MS with SOT, new halo, new horizon, some remasters.

But this overreacton like its some AAA that ll put xbox on top or it ll paint someone in despair is ridiculous.
Its mediocre ip that might help overall with MS porfolio.

I can't remember the last Xbox one game I bought. I've been primarily on the PS4 and switch now. It just sits there only going on for Netflix.

I won't be touching the Xbox One X, the lack of first party is staggering. Even Sega was pumping more out at the end of the Saturn and Dreamcast

This does make the Xbox One's already pitiful exclusive line up this year look worse, but honestly, Crackdown 3 wasn't going to be a system seller for Xbox One. Microsoft has so few big exclusives to release that I think it makes more sense for them to make sure they get what they do have right.

This delay will be beneficial for Crackdown 3, hopefully.

MS not going to differentiate 1st or 3rd party games, they are all Xbox games when speaking to the public. If MS wants to reach more people with BC, they have to get rid of or own it and change the terminology. Nobody wants to go "backwards", start using forward or just "Xbox all play" or some shit.

PC might be the "ultimate experience " but that's the kind of message that got xbox in this position. I dunno, but somehow they must convey this message more clearer.

Xbox one s-
Cheapest 4K console available to play all the best games like: D2, Cod, and NBA 2K18.

-Play original best sellers from XBOX and Xbox 360 like: Ninja Gaiden Black and Fable or Red dead redemption and Left for Dead!

-watch 4k uhd movies in hdr

-games with gold etc.

-play Cuphead
hell, that's why I bought one

I dunno just be more positive.

I think you are missing the very first point I made for each model which is the audience. Also note that I literally gave the slogans only a few seconds thought. Don't confuse my sloppy execution with the point I'm making. Here are more detailed descriptions of my thinking.

1st vs 3rd party distinction
Notice that 3rd parties aren't mentioned for the base XB1. For the XB1x crowd, that absolutely would be on the mind of the early adopter enthusiast. They want to be able to play the best console version of the 3rd party games and the XB1x can give them that.

Because Microsoft has far fewer exclusives than Sony, they need to play up the big 3rd party exclusives as much as they can. In the beginning of this generation it is due to the importance of 3rd party games that exclusives were mostly a non-issue. It has now become more important because Sony has built up a war chest of popular titles and the major Microsoft exclusives (Gears, Halo) have seen their popularity decline.

If you have a great new exclusive then by all means use it, but to be honest, Cuphead isn't going to sell many consoles. That is especially true when compared to the latest Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, or Red Dead Redemption.

Backwards Compatibility
Notice that I changed the messaging for backwards compatibility for each audience. For the base XB1, backwards compatibility means access to a much larger library of inexpensive games. Note that this console is targeted towards the late adopters who would be more cost consciousness. For the XB1x, backwards compatibility means getting rid of an extra console under the TV.

PC might be the "ultimate experience"
Once again this means different things to different audiences. For the base XB1 it goes towards its value proposition. Think of it as selling the fact that you "Get 2 for the price of one", or "Get something for nothing". For the XB1x it goes towards owning the best. Gamers who buy this likely have a gaming PC too. This is tying into that elitist feeling.

Finally, these are not all meant to be equal. The primary selling point for the base XB1 is "value" while for the XB1x it is "power/prestige". All the other points are simply to support those main points. Cook this idea for a month or so to polish the delivery and that's what I'd go with if tasked to sell the Xbox consoles.

A junior even giving the impression of preferring xbox on here is one way ticket to banville. It's best to avoid these threads until you have reached member status.

On topic. Best decision, if the game ain't ready it ain't ready.

It's an Xbox thread. What did you expect? This thread suspiciously has more posts than any other Crackdown 3 thread in just 24 hours.

People like to discuss a delay of a game and the implications, even if they maybe don't care about the game itself that much.

Shocking.

I'm really shocked.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.

Lmaooooo

OT: the game looked really rough. It's gonna be a good thing for Crackdown and the Devs in the long run. Especially considering this Fall is bursting at the seams with releases. Sucks for the Xbox One x, but I doubt this game is gonna be the one that moves units anyway.

Yes, that is clearly the reason for the numerous posts in this thread. It has nothing to do with which platform is the preferred choice of many Gaffers these days. Absolutely nothing.

Well since March 2015..

Delayed PS4 games:

Bloodborne - 92
Uncharted 4 - 93
The Last Guardian - 82
Horizon Zero Dawn - 89
Persona 5 - 93

Delayed XB1 games:

Quantum Break - 77
ReCore - 63
Fable Legends - canceled
Scalebound - canceled
Crackdown - ?
Sea of Thieves - ?

Sony didn't delay Persona 5.

But this list is good. People with their "look at how big this thread is it's because GAF hates Microsoft and Xbox unfair GAF" garbage don't like the facts and the picture Microsoft has been painting of themselves since Xbox One came out.

It is always great to hear all the things that the XBOX doesn't need.
We can all agree not a low reviewed exclusive.
Sure, increasing the revenue per user is how a service work. However, I think for the long term they need to increase the number of users or revenue growth will stall. GaaS like Rainbow Six Siege continued to have user base increases that drove revenue growth. Do you think MAU will continue to grow if Xbox hardware sales doesn't?
Except Xbox Ones are still selling. At a slower rate, at a faster rate, either way the numbers are not stopping and MS wants to make sure a good chunk of those people at least buying subscriptions and buying a lot digitally on their platform.

That's why I'm here. I don't own an Xbox One and had no intention of ever playing Crackdown 3. However talking about the gaming industry is like catnip to me....umm hypothetically if I were a cat.

I do own an Xbox but have no interest in Crackdown. I'm still allowed to discuss the delay of one of the very few Xbox exclusive games.

I mean, come on.

I think it's a very clear sign that one is way too invested in either this game or this company to be upset over the size of this thread. Like, take a step back. Who cares? Why do they care?

It's perfect fuel for the ever ongoing list wars, when a big exclusive gets delayed or even cancelled. Do you honestly think that the majority of the posters in this thread are here to discuss the implications for MS?
