Game of Thrones *NO BOOK DISCUSSION* |OT2| Season 7 - [Read the OP]

I wanna see more content from Night King's point of view - he seems like a really cool (literally) and determined fella. Like when Bran watched him from the bird's eye view, he seemed to be frozen in some sort of ritual, lots of other times they also just stand still calmly - gathering strength, contemplating something, maybe waiting for favourable weather?

Really curious what's going on inside his head:
- how he plans his movements, does he consult his older aides, why doesn't he have spies near each gate?
- how close would he let an enemy wielding dragonglass or valyrian weapon before directing all his wights to make a protective circle around him?
- does he have a backup plan, would he consider falling back when faced with a superior force?
- will another White Walker take the lead when he falls?
- is there a nursery back home for Craster boys or will they mature in turbo mode into wrinkly horsemen?

Jon Snow is an idiot. It's implausible he's survived this long with the myriad bad decisions he makes. And he constantly still looks like he knows nothing.

The Night King's staredowns with Jon reminds me of Shepard's staredowns with Harbinger.

In fact, this whole winter war reminds me of the reaper war.

Yes. And that's part of why he's an idiot.
You know what's easier than a dumb convoluted plan (to convince Cersei Lannister of all people to fight alongside you, as if that's going to happen), show Dany all your stab wounds and tell her about your resurrection.

At least he's pretty.

But with a good story and compelling characters.
Mass Effect had a good story and compelling characters before we got to the shit that was Mass Effect 3.

And one can argue Thrones itself has had a step down in writing as well.

she took the phrase "knife in the heart" pretty seriously, as she keeps on bringing it up. I wanted Tyrion to ask Davos about it on the way to King's Landing.

Jon Snow is an idiot. It's implausible he's survived this long with the myriad bad decisions he makes. And he constantly still looks like he knows nothing.

He's an honorable idiot, just like Ned was, and as ready to go to war as Robb was. Basically the most self-destructive tendencies of both his uncle and cousin and yet here he is, outliving them both by many seasons.

How badass is he tho I mean come on.

But short.

Was wondering, is there any reason he's hiding the whole "Yeah I kinda died" thing? I know he doesn't quite understand how he can be alive again but the Night Watch knows, the wildlings know. Pretty hard to keep it a secret with so many knowing in the long run.

Not that most would believe it.

Other than the impending doom affecting every living beings, I'm not sure I can see any ressemblance between both wars?

The more I think of Bran, the angrier I get. So far he's done one thing that wasn't useless. Meanwhile he's letting LF start shit in his own goddamn house. Why doesn't he warg a crow to follow what LF does? Why doesn't he warg Ghost and just eat his rat bastard ass up? Why?

They should just own it and make Bran the villain. Have him get possessed by the Night King.

I wonder how many peoples outside the Night's Watch know about Jon dying. Does Sansa know?

I think he's been hiding it to this point because when first meeting Dany, the whole "We need to fight the army of the dead. Incidentally, I'm also kinda dead. Long story, you wouldn't be interested," thing is kind of a harder sell.

Well to be fair to him, it did look like he was about to tell her when Jorah stepped in and rudely interrupted.

I wonder if they'd have the balls to kill off arya. They're definitely going with a "vs he has no idea how politics works" angle and most of those people die pretty quickly.

Do the TV people have the balls?

Probably not.

Does George R.R. Martin?

Definitely.

He strikes me as the type who would change things up from the TV ending whatever it is.

Well I mean if we're basing the conversation around what team tends to win their respective league the most, sure in that case Neymar will come to drown in Ligue 1 winner's medals. But if you're like me and you base non Prem supremacy on who wins the UCL the most, Neymar to PSG is a step backwards. Daario can't accept that he isn't going to be the #1 man at FC Khaleesi, and Neymar can't accept that he too is never going to be the #1 man at FC Barcelona as long as Messi still plays there. They both want to be the main attraction, and they're both capable of being snakes.

Threatens to kill Sam, plus calls Gilly a thing, plus buys into Cersei's MWGA campaign, plus oath breaking, plus wanting to flog his own troops; Drogon should have eaten him.

lets be real though, psg > bumcelona now that he's made the change when it comes to CL. It should have happened last year if they didn't choke at a hilarious fashion.

How Jon & Shepard are both annoyed to the brim that no one believes them about an apocalyptic level threat coming to kill ALL life?

Well of course you had control over how annoyed Shepard was. But while the rest of the people you kno are playing politics and war...this all applies in both stories

Jaime's behavior with Olenna was kinda reminded me of Shepard himself. "I think we're done here." Just the way he was handling everything but still siding with his own opinion

Edit: sorry for double post

Long boring deep lore cocktease season after season.

Mass Effect 1: Fuck, the Reapers are coming.
Mass Effect 2: Fuck, the Reapers are really coming.
Mass Effect 3: Fuck, the Reapers came all over my face and I didn't like it at all.

GoT S5: The Night King sez to Jon - COME AT ME BRO!
GoT S6: The Night King sez to Bran - COME AT ME BRO!
GoT S7: ?????????????????

i don't think that's a matter of boldness, that's a matter of patience with one's self

It takes courage to admit you have writer's block and can no longer finish your series, and to look for someone who can help you do it while you are still alive to consult.

I can't read all these pages of the new thread. Are people still on the Jon x Dany shipping bandwagon? Even after last episode? Would you go after a girl that burned your best friends father and brother alife?
Dany isn't THAT cute

One could argue that realizing the one person so hellbent on you aiding him in his fight against the 'undead' is themselves an undead might make the whole thing sound even more confusing - and something you definitely don't want to be bothered with, prior to removing your arch nemesis from the throne you desire so much.

At least Jon still looks super sexy, unlike Uncle frosty-face Benjen.

His father was going to hunt him down. Shame about Rickon though.

If they did not believe in white walkers how the heck are they going to believe he came back from the dead? "Oh hi, i'm this total stranger who is one of the kings of westeros...please follow me into battle with these walking dead types because i got stabbed and resurrected. I totally won't stab you in the back when you come up north."

Thanks. And that is indeed the best route.

SUNDAY HYPE. I haven't been this hyped for an episode in awhile. Though I suppose Battle of the Bastards was a long awaited moment that I was hyped to see. But there's a danger to this upcoming episode that has me totally hyped and on edge.

by being as hyped as you are you could be disappointed because your building up something so big in a way that type of hype can hurt the show aswell IMO
but it lives upto it imo

I know Beric wears coming back to life as a badge of honor but Jon sees the optics. I got stabbed by my own men and only by dumb luck did I come back.

Even if they manage to make it back to King's Landing with a wight, surely Tyrion would know that Cersei is not going to let them leave? Or even believe what they are trying to show her?

She'll probably have Qyburn experimenting on the wight to create her own army of the undead, and the magnificent seven's heads mounted on spikes.

Except Jorah.... he'll get sent back to witness the look of despair on Dany's face when he tells her new bae didnt' make it.

Yeah, but how are the characters going to take that news

Going by how they've been pacing the show I don't see them giving Sam more than a scene to process the information and get over it. Sam still has Gilly, his adopted son and his nice mom and sister. This isn't going to be another Ygritte and Olly situation.

If that's the case then yeah I think you're right. I haven't paid attention to the book development drama so if that's GRRM's problem then he should just be honest about it.

I don't think it's writers block. It seems more a case of he's written himself into a corner which he is finding it hard to maneuvor out from. The TV show had considerably less story arcs and characters but still had to go 'fuck logic, full steam ahead.'

I also think he's lost a lot of motivation. When you hear him talk about writing the first chapter of GoT, you'll see a total drop in enthusiasm. It's sad. I do think he has it in him to sit down and deliver an excellent conclusion. Also team TWoW #2k18. Words are wind baby!

GRRM's fame has brought too many distractions I think. He should lock himself in a cabin for six months.

This season is so short that there's no room for loyalty missions :(

I think Martin's problem is after writing his last book he's had a lot of time to think about the plot and talk it over with other writers, actors, and creatives, and probably realized he wrote a lot of things in his last book that were not great things to have moving forward.

So now he sits down, looks at his manuscript, sees all the shit he wishes he had never put in there in the first place and just passes out drunk having written, "Jaime did a thing, I guess."

Nothing kills momentum like having a chance to thoroughly re-examine the work you're doing before it's finished.

Part of the problem is he has a ton of characters, even more than the show. Might be he has over extended things to unmanageable levels.

Which is why it's doubly frustrating to see people talk about issues in the book that the show writers still messed up.

Isn't half the point of the adaptation to fix issues the original work had, not repeat them?

It depends. There are things that get changed because, on reflection, they just could have been done much better. There are also things that get changed for budgetary reasons, because the price of doing them on film is different from the price of doing them on paper. Then there are the things that get changed "for a different audience", and those are the most dubious ones of all, because the de facto assumption built into that line of thinking tends to be a complete lack of respect for the audience in question.

"The TV audience won't understand this," "this is too slow for the TV audience", etc.

I'd be very surprised if the armistice deal went ahead and I'm expecting Cersei to try something and get herself killed. This whole season seems like it is setup for the fight between the living and the dead and I would imagine part of that would be getting rid of characters like Cersei and Littlefinger who just seem to be there to throw a spanner in the works.

I feel like Littlefinger has to pull one last bullshit Xanatos Gambit play, because that's his character and he basically has to go out like that; however, I also feel like he's got one left in him, period. The audience just isn't going to tolerate him pulling the whole Master of Puppets routine another three or four times.

Everything winterfell and sansa/arya/littlefinger this season feels like padding which is strange to say given the pacing!

Wish Brienne was one of the fan service 7 sent north of the wall. Equipped with valaryian steel and all!

Reflecting on the scene between Cersei and Ellaria, damn it was chilling. Fantastic performance from all actress' involved. Wish Ellaria's was more than stupid revenge. Dorne being involved in the mix would have been a good opportunity to bring house Dayne into the fold. I also wish Cersei had more to do, her only stand out scene this season had been the one previously mentioned.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Yeah, but how are the characters going to take that news
Hey the dude that wanted to kill you and called your girlfriend a thing; has betrayed the house he was sworn to; refused clemency; refused taking the Black, and chose death rather than break rank with Cersei fucking Lannister. You remember the Lannisters right, the guys who helped decimate your best friend's family? Yeah, your dad broke faith with his Liege Lord for them. And your brother went along with him like he has always done.

Sam: "sucks about Dickon, but he was right there snickering anytime dad was a dick to me. But father, fuck him."

Anything other than that is illogical. Sam lost everything he had rights to due to his father.
