Arkham Horror: The Card Game |OT| Cards of Cthulhu

So ordered the game despite being slight marked up, seems to be out of print. Really looking forward to digging into this game.

I'm not sure if I asked this before but what's the best way of storing this game? I tried to set it up to play with my brother after me and the Mrs played it but the cards were jumbled up and it took a good half an hour to sort them out again.

bought the last mythos pack!
(well actually along with MOM + all expac.. as anticipated that I would buy it in august.... and i caved in and said "why not???" and bought the core for android netrunner too...)
now i have to setup a full campaing for dunwhich complete before september, as then it's frigging carcosa time!

Continued with my Dunwich campaign a little this weekend, and then again last night. We're up through Blood on the Altar now, so just three to go!

Rex hasn't suffered any more permanent injuries, although his curse has come up quite a bit, causing him to fumble around a few times during certain key points in the scenarios. We've done several things differently than last time, so that should change the story around a bit as we progress forward.

Cool things we've done..
Finally killed The Experiment, and got all the clues out of the Hidden Chamber.

Even though I've got 30 plays logged, we're still screwing things up just about every game. We forgot to pump up the Hunting Horror once, and I think I used Higher Education a few times in one scenario when I didn't have 5+ cards. I even forgot to get resources from Milan several times, and I've used that card a ton! It is a testament to the game though that even though we're fucking up rules and cheating (or getting cheated), it's still a fun experience and we're still running into tough situations that cause us to put a lot of thought into our actions.

Carcosa will be the same setup as Dunwich. A deluxe, and six mythos packs.

As far as getting better at rules, there's just so much that's card or scenario independent. It's a lot to keep track of, and really can only be kept 100% accurate by being extremely thorough, or replaying scenarios a bunch of times to get all the special little things down.

I finally gave in, I love Eldritch Horror and Mansions of Madness so I have been pretty interested in this. I picked this up today since I knew my FLGS had a copy last time I was there and I had a $12 credit. I am a little terrified because I am a completionist and this plus the other two I mentioned earlier could be costly hah.

How much space does this game take up? Thinking about buying a folding gaming table and was wondering if the smaller size would work.

The play area is a bunch of location cards spread out on the table. Could be a 3 by 3 square or a 7 cards in a row at max. Then there's 2 cards indicating the state of the game and 1 or 2 set of cards with their discard. Then every player will have some cards down along with their decks and discard piles.

There's a few play mats available, but I've never seen one unfolded.

I personally would never go for any super expensive storage for an LCG, as you will definitely outgrow it if you keep up with the game. $70 is four mythos packs and change.
It's 75 +'shipping... in pound, thus around 84 eur..
Core is 39eur, deluxe is 29, mythos 11-12..
So.. :)
That being said, what do you suggest then?
A few ultra pro deck 4 eur each, 1 per mythos is , 2 for the core, 2 for deluxe, is already 40 eur as is for 10 decks..
Then another round for the next cycle (carcosa) and I'm looking at 8 more decks for around 32 eur..
So with "cheap" solution, by the time carcosa is complete, I'll spend close to the "expensive" solution, bit by bit ..
That's why I'm almost leaning toward the expensive solution...

I don't know much about European storage solutions, unfortunately. A lot of us over here in the US go for just generic cardboard card boxes that were originally used for sports cards (and now a lot of people use them for MTG). You can get an 800 ct box that will easily store a full cycle sleeved for about $1-2. They're not the most aesthetically pleasing, but you can always print something out to cover it with if you want.

I posted up a couple pictures a while back here and here.

Ultimately, it comes down to how much you love the game and think the investment is worth it. I've spent a ton on the game already with four cores, two of each Dunwich product, PODs, player mat, wooden resources for various things, etc. I just can't justify spending $80 or whatever on something I'm going to outgrow, as well as the sheer size of it physically. With limited space for gaming, I can fit four of my 800 ct storage boxes in just a little more space than it would take to store just a single core box.

Can some one explaine the "max 1 commit skill test" cards to me? I'm not understanding the rule.
For a single given skill test, only one copy of that card may be committed. I'm faaairly certain that's to be taken as a group restriction: one per test, regardless of source (so an aiding investigator couldn't play a second).

You are 100% right here. Me and my group looked up this rule a while back and although I can't remember quite where in the FAQ it talks about this it is very specific in saying that the restriction is group wide.

Am I(and my team of investigators) supposed to keep our wounds from each part of the campaign? cus that seems super rough if that's the case...

No. The only time damage/horror persists is if you take trauma. If you take physical trauma (through a card, resolution, or by losing all your health during a scenario), then you start the rest of the scenarios in the campaign with one damage. The same things happen with mental trauma, except you start with one horror.

For a real tough challenge, it could be kinda interesting to do the three scenarios from the core box with persistent damage/horror. Since they take place immediately following each other so you might not have time to treat your wounds. In my head that seems possible on easy, and perhaps on normal with a super optimised deck.

Me and the gf completed the core set campaign tonight! Had a great time doing so. We made it through part 3 by the skin of our teeth. We were able to stop the summoning of some old god and only had to deal with 3 cultist. Part 2 was defenitlty the most challenging, we got overwhelmed really quickly and only took out 3 cultist. We are gonna replay the campaign with different characters next time before we pick up the expansion.

Nice, well done. I've finished that campaign about 4 times now and still only gotten the kinda neutral ending as my best result so far. Which two investigators were you if you don't mind me asking?

ok i found a "cheapstake" solution!!!!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwFZHuURJICJMDVoRVhRaVp4UW5vMTZ3Q21WVlhETlNvZWEw/view
the external is made in pure wood..
internal separator is rough cardboard, i'll substitute it with wood as well..
i'll also add another layer on top that will house internally the manuals etc..
for now the mythos "sleeves" are kept in the bottom layer on the side.. recovered space for housing mythos sleeves etc, will allow me to host the "tokens" in token separated token bags!

currently the manuals are just sittint on top of everything like this:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwFZHuURJICJb1ZqcGRpZTA1MXNNUV8tR1ZkYk5oUWpXVDJz/view

once i finish the "slot" for the manuals, i'll start with the decoration//painting on the wooden box.. to decide whether i'll handle it myself or pay someone for it..

also, i will get 4-5 more of these, as i will need
1) one more for the carcosa cycle
2) one or two for the elder sign
3) one or two for netrunner
4) something similar for mage knight + xpac
5) something MUCH bigger for descent :p

Whew, this is really sold out everywhere. I've called all over New York City and Long Island and I've had no luck (about 6 stores in reasonable driving distance).

It looks like reprints are a month out too. I think I'll have to ebay it or wait patiently. Not a skill of mine to be honest.

I doubt it'll be a month before a restock (at least in the US). I'll speculate that there will probably be more in store with Carcosa, which should be beginning of September (hopefully earlier).

afaik, arkham lcg reprint are slated to hit the stores in september :)
if i were you, i would rather wait :)
also, i'd advice buying either carocsa deluxe or dunwhich deluxe along with the core..
while not strictly necessary, the deluxe xpac give quite a lot of content (scenario and cards), and while the scenarios are "optional" you can use carcosa player card for core scenario deck as well :)
or a carcosa hero in core xpac..
this way you get 5 more investigator per deluxe box :p

Roland & Wendy. its also very possible that we got some rules wrong too.

edit: we had some VERY good chaos bag pulls in part 3 also. So maybe it was just luck.

Thank you to all advising patience here. I'll do my best! Let's just say that if you had a deep fryer that could fry a buffalo in 40 seconds flat, I'd still want it now.

My biggest concern with buying more than just the core is that the only person willing to play is my wife, who is, lets just say, not guaranteed to commit to this regularly. With kids its impossible to get out of the house too. I think I'll give the core a shot, and then pick up Dunwich at a later date. Though I do really want to try out ol' Ashcan...

Not trying to push you at all, but this game is very solo-friendly. I've run through the core several times as true solo and two-handed (playing two investigators myself). Running Dunwich would be just as easy, just more of a time commitment, so I haven't done that yet.

yep, but as stated, the ghouls can make you waste turns to kill them, when they pop..
we'll see... all in all an interesting character

I'm not that worried about the Ghouls. Anyone with a native combat of 4 with access to the starter guardian cards doesn't have much to fear from a 3 combat 3 health monster. It is very unlikely you will waste multiple turns to kill them, 2-3 actions on average. Compared to the host of other fearsome personal weaknesses in the game I feel Ghouls are perhaps the easiest to deal with.

ehh the thing is that, basically you add random on random..
if the ghoul had only 2 life, it would have been a non-sequitur.. 3 means that you have to "add" something..
regardless, this investigator seems interesting and i'll dig playing it :)

Played the Essex County Express properly this time by getting all the clues before moving.
I was playing with my buddy and we made it to last train car before the engine and I unfortunately went insane (Jenny). Thankfully Ashcan was able to push on and start the engine. I like that I had my own resolution getting lost in time and space. Crappy that Morgan got kidnapped though and I lose him from my deck.

One of my co-workers made this chaos-bag app for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.desertphoenix.chaosbag

I was super skeptical because I love cardboard and the tactile nature of the chaos bag, but man he did a great job with this thing and really won me over. Has the full legend for every scenario and can just gin up the right bag immediately. Also has nice little animations and thematic touches. He said he made it b/c the bag really added a lot to his 4p playtime and man he was right. Couldn't play without this now.

Another thing he taught us was to use little connectors to show how everything links up, and I've found that a really nice touch too.

I've been using toothpicks since the beginning. However, one of the guys on the Discord channel is making these little 3D printed connectors that are two pieces and can be swiveled around to various angles. I'll probably grab a set of those when he gets to the production phase, as long as the price is affordable. Otherwise, I might see if he'll just let me buy the model files so I can print them out at work.

Yeah I think I saw a thread about that on BGG though it seemed so far off I didn't pay it too much mind. Ordered some kinda cute ones with footprints on Etsy for now.

Yeah. I guess he did post them up on BGG a while back to get some wider feedback here. They look a lot more practical (and will probably cost less) than the other really ornate ones I was interested in that are also on BGG.

That pretty cool, but I'll likely stick with the bag. My mother law just made a nice one for me that stands on its own and then a buddy who is an artist did some sweet Cthulhu designs on it. I'll try and post some pics of it sometime.

Rule question:

Can Duke's Fight action be used in conjunction with a weapon?

No. Any time you see the action arrow, that's the card/effect being used, and they can't be combined. You can still contribute cards for icons, or skills such as Vicious Blow though.

peeps, anyone going at gencon can grab me one of these?
Labyrinths of Lunacy :X

These are only available to people that signed up for the event, so I doubt anyone's going to want to get rid of their copy at a reasonable price. It will hit POD (like Rougarou and Carnevale) before the end of the year. So, if you have any patience, you can get it for $15, or you can look on eBay within the coming weeks and find people trying to get probably $50+ for it.

Oh well if it's hitting pod by eoy, I'll wait.. suffering :x

In case anyone was impatient, the core set and Dunwich expansion have updated to shipping now on Fantasy Flight's website. Soon, soooon.

So I had a question. I have some of the expansions but I don't have the Dunwich Legacy itself. Can I use the player deck cards (for deck building & upgrades between campaigns) from those in the core set campaign? Or can I only use core set cards?
