Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

Vendor everything unless you want to level CUL desynth and get a lot of sands that are basically as useless as the 20gils you get vendoring the fishes. It's just how the job works, there's A LOT of fishes to collect in the log and stuff, but like 80% of it is completely worthless. Rest is used in leves, class quests and obviously CUL recipes(and I guess a few things in other crafts, like coral/pearls in GSM).

Great to know. Thank you.

Just got in a pretty bad V4N group. The other tank was a WAR and he never left tank stance the entire fight. Even after the tank swap, I was fighting him to keep hate. When the fight was over, I saw this in the chat log.

There's one for the black list.

I finally got the stats in my squadron right so I can clear the level 40 mission. It's been months since I touched the squadron stuff. I got stuck on this mission. I'll be glad to have it done.

I've come to the conclusion that of the fantasy mmo's I've played, while Final Fantasy XIV is fun to play and I like the Final Fantasy fan service, it wouldn't be a pick for the worlds I'd actually like to live in.

I'd live in Black Desert online. Everyone is insanely attractive.

While doing the Moonfaire event stuff I decided to do it the "right" way. Which means doing the fishing quest and cooking the battered fish myself. That turned into hours of leveling Culinarian and Fishing.... until I realized I was missing a certain ingredient. Which I needed to gather. So instead of buying it. I started leveling a Botanist. Now I have Botanist and Culinarian at lvl21 and Fisherman at lvl12. Send... help.

Welcome to crafting. The only ways to win are a) max everything or b) quit

Mannnnnnn.... I almost feel cheated. I worked with a party on O3S for 3 hours (it was to beat enrage)... we go a perfect run with no deaths and wowww wee they were still like 7 percent off the kill. I dont know what to do... I told them we hit a wall and that's that. They had 330 weapons.... I'm not even sure how to feel. D: The tank was in defiance the whole run T_T

So assuming I want to slowly grind this out as an alternative to combat gameplay, what are some noon pointers? So far I just grind levequests to get to the next quest, and then update my equipment with what the quest gives. Is there more to it than that? How do I maximize my time investment?

- Leves are good for crafting. Otherwise, work your way through your crafting log. There's also the Ixal Tribe dailies (up to 50, Moogles 50-60) and GC turn-ins.
- If you need to make stuff in bulk, you can make the game do it quickly for you (you have to have done it once manually first, IIRC). When crafting you get more exp out of it if you put more effort in (i.e. try raising quality a bit)
- Crafting As A Service is a website that will list the ingredients needed for various recipes (you can add recipes to a 'cart' and check off ingredients as you get/make them). It also shows you where the ingredients come from (crafting, gathering, shop, monster) and likes to other databases for location.
- FFXIVGuild has some leveling guides for crafters and gatherers
- you can get by without doing all classes, or bothering with gathering, but obviously they feed gear/tools/ingredients to each other (and cross-class skills too - this is why people often say to get all crafting classes to 15/30-something/50), and market board can be expensive.

Gathering is pretty similar - leves, gathering log, turn-ins. No dedicated beast tribe for dailies though. They aren't cross-reliant like crafters, but if you have multiple it obviously would save on inventory space to keep them near each other in level. Again, HQ items are worth more exp so try to maximise your chances of that, but RNG is probably more of a factor for gathering in that respect.
For fishing you'll want to check out Cat Became Hungry for good times/weathers/baits/locations for the various fish

For both, cross reference the marketboard with your crafting/gathering logs to see what items that you can provide are selling at a reasonable price/rate.

Sorry if that's a lot to take in, I just kept adding in more points as I thought of them.
TL;DR: yes, leves are good (do GC turn-ins too), try to get HQ stuff if you can (some quests require it).

They'll need to meld, optimize their DPS more. So much you can do at this point. :/
I'm working on O3S myself but we're still in the learning phase but sadly its been about 3 weeks straight now since shit's been happening on Friday (one of our raid day) so we haven't been able to practice O3S a lot.

That said, as self improvement, i started DPS'ing vastly more as an AST. Normally i'd cower or do a meagre 200 dps (too nervous i'd over dps or if someone died) this time i did 1115-1120. Not bad i'd say. (if i ignore most parser from FFlogs)

No it's very helpful. I'll rather have more information to process than less!

I have a question that the guides don't really answer though. So while I'm leveling these classes, I've noticed that I start accumulating a lot of stuff which I don't really need or want - in the case of Botany it would be stuff I cannot use for Culinary because I'm not doing other crafting jobs at the moment. In the case of Fishing it's just having a lot of fish, more than I can use. In the case of Culinary it would just be a ton of dishes which I'm not going to eat.

So... what can I best do to clear my inventory? So I just junk them? Most sell for 1gil. Practically worthless. Does anyone buy this shit on the marketboards?

Check the marketboards- some fish and gathering stuff are actually used on high level crafts (natron off the top of my head sells for a few k still). Usually anything gatherable before level 20 is buyable from a vendor and won't go for much though.

Have to check everything which takes a while. Low level fish in general you can just throw away, even if it's used for something it won't sell for crap. Low level BOT/MIN stuff has some valuable stuff in there. As in 300-900 each, which for such low lvl is actually pretty decent money if you're grinding on them.

Drop everything in a retainer then do a Sell items on market from retainer and then you just list something for sale and check the current prices in that window before actually listing them, goes faster than typing all the names in the search window. What I did when I cleaned my retainers is try to list everything, if it sold for decent money, list it, if it doesn't, just right click > have retainer sell items(vendoring them). Can clear the whole retainer in like 10mins or so this way, only annoying when you list 20stuff cause then you have to move the stuff to another retainer.

The two simplest things to do every day are Ixali daily quests, and your daily GC turn ins. In the case of the GC turn ins for both crafting and gathering, always go for HQ, as you get a 100% bonus. It took a while, but that was mostly how I originally leveled my crafting and gathering jobs.

Wait, Omega 4 normal has a tank swap?

Yes. Normal T3 puts lightning down on the main tank, at 2 stacks the next T3 will probably kill the MT.

Uh. Every time I've done it (with gaffers never with pugs admittedly) the tanks never swapped and I don't think the MT ever died.

Although, thinking back...there may have been times the MT died and we never knew why lol. Good to know!

You sure? I noticed the MT dying when I did it and then the OT bitched at him for not letting him tank swap.

IIRC the fourth T3 doesn't need to be swapped because the debuff will fall off during the Decisive Battle intermission.

I'm an AST main and pretty much dps a lot in O3S and so was the other healer. I think the main problem is that people go into O3S thinking they can get carried but their personal dps is ridiculously low and they dont seek to improve that. We tried letting the whm solo all add phases and nothing changed much. I think in all honesty something is wrong. Someone isn't doing the required dps and they just want to get carried. It's not hard to be over 3500 for this fight and I can't say it is entirely the tank's fault. I'm pretty sure we all had melds too. It's just a pain so I had to disband the group even though they were phenomenal in terms of execution with mechanics.

Melds and substats have much less effect on your performance (unless we're speaking about WD) than riding the GCD right and aligning buffs (to whatever extent you can do that in SB). Blaming not pressing buttons on gear will not help anyone.

Yeah, I understand that but there's really no way to tell when i'm pretty clueless on new dps rotations besides blm and rdm so I couldn't give tips really.

How fast should I be leveling up early on in PotD? I just did floors 31-40 and only leveled up from 17 to 18. That seems slow. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

Floor 51-60 usually gives you 1 lv until lv30 but faster because you can grind the same set of floors over and over again, and you have lv60 skillset.

Oh ok. So once I complete 41-50 I should just grind 51-60 over and over. I read at level 57, the Vault nets better exp than the Palace too.

why would they design the last few dungeons like that? even skipping cutscenes as fast as possible i still ended up barely being able to keep up with the group. one poor guy got left behind at one of the elevators and i never saw him again

what a clusterfuck :p

I just came back, what are these?

Edit: duckroll, another thing to do, if you're consistently doing gc turn ins, you should have a lot of seals. They Have +exp items for gathering and crafting.

Edit2" what is potd?

Palace of the Dead.

Finished Heavensward (awesome final trial!) and now on the Dragonsong stuff but haven't been bothering with it because I'm too busy leveling Carpenter, trying to get it to 50 (45 now) so I can start the Moogle tribe since I've finished and allied with the ARR tribes and it's the only tribe I've got left to unlock. I'm so broke from buying materials/HQ items for the leves and class quest items, like struggling to pay for teleports lol. I've been using Ixali tokens on materia and then selling them right back to the vendor just for some extra gil.

That sucks, hopefully you'll find another group. Tho, i don't think i would've disbanded i'd sit down and have a group-wide talk and go "guys, its time we boost that DPS!". Unless you can easily find another group, of course. :p

That happened to me. I mentioned it in this thread and was told that Castrum is the only dungeon like that in the game. I'm only now getting to the end of the pre-HW stuff, but so far that has proven true.

It's been a while since I've done PotD, but I"m pretty sure you have to clear floor 100 to be able to select to start at 51.

OMG THE IXALI BEAST TRIBE QUESTS ARE AWESOME! O_O

Funny I did some Ixali quests today for the first time in... 3years? Not sure when ARR ended but that was the last time. I had forgotten but turns out you can buy materias with Ixali Oaknots, and I melded my crafting gear a bit to do some 2star crafting and CP+1 materias were expensive(I mean not very expensive, but with melds at 15% chance of success, it adds up quite a lot, went through like 45 of them to meld 2items). Anyway did 3 ixali quests and bought 30 tier I materias with the oaknots and got 3 IV materias too as a bonus, it's surprisingly efficient for money even at 70. CP1 materias were up to 5k so that's 150k right there and then about 30k for the IV materias.

Meanwhile Moogle quests are complete garbage and there's no reason to ever do them other than Anima quest stuff which you can get from other sources anyway. The story was pretty good though, but not as good as Ixal which was like way better than all the other ARR tribes. I liked the Vath story more for the HW ones. Maybe they'll surprise me but the SB beast tribes look like they'll be meh, I'm no fan of the turtles or snake ladies, so it'll probably be all about the fishies(which I assume will be the crafting tribe).
