PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Man, some bad games tonight but I guess that's how the game goes, sometimes you just make bad choices and need to learn from everything you can.

Any idea whether we will see the ability to roll sideways when prone?

The original concept was a mod from ARMA 2. PLAYERUNKNOWN clearly wanted to keep the gunplay and movement similar to ARMA.

Corrected, it was ARMA 2, not 3. Thanks.

Saying the original concept was an arma mod is not the same as this current game we play being a mod of arma

Like I replied to you in another thread that roll has been one of prototype animations that PU has tweeted.

Those two things seem nothing near similar.

Don't you know? You need purchase GC crate key for every item you want to loot during match.

Lol oh and the Play / Matchmaking button randomly isn't working

But hey keep handwaving as the patches progressively break things that were previously fixed I guess

Houses still aren't randomly loading in, better buy a crate and help the devs along :|

You were making some weird implication that paying for crate keys is somehow mandatory so I was just making funny of that.

Hardly hand waving away issues and if you have seen my posts in this thread I'm often vocal about them.

My implication wasn't that they were required

My implication is that it's insulting that in an early access game, the only thing that's working without a hitch is the microtransactions. It's insulting to the people that already paid $30 with the understanding that the priority would go towards game fixes, not further things to pay for in the game.

The game currently has very common, very severe and pervasive glitches and issues that were not present a few weeks ago.

That's a bit of a stretch to say it's the "only thing that's working," plus creating a microtransaction system that piggybacks off of Steam is not that difficult to get working compared to an actual game.

I agree it's super shitty they decided to add them in before the game is finished. Not a whole lot you can do when so many people are willing to throw money at these things.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing clusters of items. Last night in a duo match, we found 6-8 stocks for the M416 in the first two areas we visited.

Lol oh and the Play / Matchmaking button randomly isn't working
This started happening to me in duos and I found the refresh button in the top right usually fixes it.

Hey, have they mentioned anything about making entering and exiting cars different in any way? Rolling out of a moving car would be nice, for example.

The game already has a perfectly fine implementation for "died by falling" out of a vehicle.

Would be cool to be able to dive out and roll at low speeds. In fact diving and rolling when running would be also be awesome, great way to get behind cover.

Edit: Has anyone else been experiancing a few bugs in connection today? Kept saying matchmaking failed inbetween games for me. Kept having to press the reset lobby button. Then when I did get into a game they would only be populated up to like 80-83 people, sometime into the 70s.

It would be nice to be able to look at a drivers seat when entering from the drivers side and actually end up in the driver seat for once.

game is whacked tonight. Kept getting 'matchmaking failed' for around 15 minutes, then once i got it i experienced 3 random crashes, and its never crashed for me before. And then, once i did finish a round, i wasnt given any of my points

So close to my first chicken dinner... 3 of us left. 1 of them tried to ram with me the jeep (lol), so I took him out quickly. The third was just looking on from a hilltop and not moving, and I managed to quickly go prone and sight him up with my sniper, took a shot and then POP, seemed like he got a crossbow kill on me first and I also saw my shot miss so I ended at #2... Great match though! The adrenaline really starts kicking in when you glance up and realize you're in the top 10.

Got my first solo victory! Not played a lot of solo, my usual crew had let me down, but really happy to have managed to finally get that done. I had played a few games earlier solo and they had not gone well, but just thought I would pop on for one last game and boom. I knew roughly where the last guy was, and I had moved into a perfect position that had visibility of everywhere he would have to move into to get in, he bloody took his time, but my patience was rewarded.

Now to try and get a solo FPP one..

19 hours played, and got my first win in any mode. Solo FPP.

It's been about 10 years since I've played anything with a keyboard and mouse. This game is tough. Really digging it though.
The best I've done so far is top 16

I get to the to 10 just about every time. It's always a sniper standoff at that point. I'm actually enjoying the early parts of the round more. It's tense at the end but pretty much always ends the same.

Need someone to tell me a good strategy for duo and squad. Cant get past like top 20

Loot enables you to kill, positioning is what gets you rank. Focus on positioning more than anything else. Where is the best spot on the map for this circle in terms of defense, where will the circle probably go, where is the hot side of the map, etc. These are all questions that you should ask yourself constantly.

Okay, I officially give up on shotguns.

I was a huge proponent of them, but they are completely hit or miss. There have been multiple times when my reticle is 100% smack dab unquestionably on a target in perfect shotgun range only for every pellet to somehow veer completely to the left or right of the target, or where despite being pellets it randomly practically acts like a slug perfectly grouped on a tiny dot, but only when the reticle is just pixels left or right of center despite them still being well within the circle.

Like, within 3 minutes I went from headshotting a guy from across a large house when they were outside the door, to missing four shots on a guy walking into my room, to headshotting a guy walking into a room, to painting an outline around a guy who didn't even see me and was looking in the opposite direction while slowly strafing.

Fuck. Just had ANOTHER #2 finish for the day.

Took two down. Saw the third down rotating around to finish me off. Started firing at him and following him with the reticle as he was sprinting. And as I rotated, my rifle went up against a tree, faced upwards and the other guy managed to kill me off right then. I wish they handled being up close to objects better with rifles and such. :(

New maps really aren't a priority, in my eyes. The map is fine and i'd be quite happy if that was the only map to ever exist in PUBG.

A new map should be the last thing they add, there's countless bigger issues, they need to get them game working perfectly before thinking about adding a new map which is a huge task.

For you.

I absolutely love the shotguns, but I can only seem to get a hit with them on third person. In FPP is just miss over and over.

I do think that fixing bugs and optimizing should be the first priority, but there will eventually need to be more maps. I've already seen talk of the current map getting stale for people. Additional maps could keep the game feeling fresh for those folks.

The loot spawning does piss me off, only because I get the short end of the stick any time it's a race for a gun. Anytime I see someone land close to me and I know I have to get a gun quick, I get a crowbar and lots of attachments. The other guy gets full body armor and an AKM....

Finally got a chicken dinner after a bit over 100 hrs in this stupid (wonderful) game.

Dropped onto the pier, was largely alone except towards the end of my time there where I found several houses looted by someone else. Never saw them. Found an 8x, SKS, M4 and level 3 helmet and that's the gear I ran with for the rest of the game.

Circle was centered over the military base island so I ran down the pier and swam for it. Landed on the beach just ahead of the circle. 0 Kills, all my competition lay ahead of me.

I found a UAZ just as the blue was about to consume me and rushed into the military base expecting to find resistance. It was deserted as the circle had moved again, this time to wooded hills to the north. As I was running to the circle I saw a guy to my west we took shots at each other and I was able to take him out in the open.

I healed an then traversed laterally towards the apex of the circle and was engaged again by a guy near a tree. I've been in this position before and lost out so instead of playing it passively I charged him. I guess he wasn't expecting that because I won easily. The next circle forced me down a hill towards a wizard hut where four dudes were fighting. I let them battle it out and took out the last guy while also taking fire from someone with a suppressed AR.

When I looked at the players remaining I realized it was just me and the suppressed shooter. I ran from the wizard hut and was fortunate to see where the last man was. I took a few more hits but managed to heal behind a tree. The shooter was ~100 yards away in a one story building firing from the front door. He should have moved but fortunately he didn't and I managed (with my hands shaking) to land three body shots with the 8x and the SKS for the win.

Wtf? How is vaulting not a priority?

While fancy it doesn't really add any significant value over jumping as things are. In my view they should prioritize server performance and find proper loot spawning balance for island before adding fancy features.
I really don't know how anybody could see vaulting as a fancy feature, unless you consider crouch jumping a viable replacement. Navigation is incredibly janky as it is, and jumping over walls or through windows shouldn't be determined entirely by whether or not somebody presses crouch at the exact time it needs to be pressed when most modern games have vaulting.

Adding vault doesn't alter nor add enough to movement that it should be top priority over games performance (that gets constantly shit on here) or properly thought out loot distribution algorithm (this too gets a lot shit atm). Especially when they need to have good client and server performance for vaulting not to break whole fucking thing by destroying hit detection.

Jumping and crouch jumping have you easily covered until core parts of game are fixed and work properly.

Thanks dude.

Just as an added note and how myself and my friends approach the circle is we try to position ourselves with our backs to the blue and continue moving in with that mentality. It allows us to scout ahead with relative ease and not worry about what is behind us, though this is only possible after the third white circle thanks to the amount of damage in blue being unsustainable. Any time we tried to venture into the middle of the circle we found it difficult keeping formation and not being flanked because you have multiple fronts to deal with compared to being on the back end and seeing ahead of you as your focus.

Being able to heal as a passenger in a moving vehicle makes sense & should be implemented.

Not really, driving around on bumpy terrain wouldn't really result in efficient medication or bandaging. Plus passengers could just heal up completely and never be truly out of action or wary of combat, but also just having a passenger heal and switch driver so they can heal up. The current system works perfectly fine because it means getting into a vehicle is both an advantage on gaining ground but also a potential hazard in being a easy target from enemies and unable to heal through that damage. It entices decision making both calculated and on the fly.

I mentioned this earlier but my ShadowPlay on occasions has been bugging out and saving what seems to be corrupt clips. They'll save as a 1GB~ MP4 file and be unable to play in VLC or any editing software I use, while ShadowPlay also turns itself "off" completely, having to be turned back on by opening GeForce Experience and flicking the overlay switch. Is it possible to recover this footage or is it lost for good?

My only custom settings are switching overlay to CTRL+ALT+Z and changing clipping time to 10 minutes. I've tried some Google-fu and nothing is coming up relevant to my problem so wondering if anyone else has experienced it and if they found a solution at all.

I'll agree that the Gamescom keys/crates/microtransaction issue wasn't handled in the best way. Although they were introduced to fund the tournament at Gamescom this week, and the crates will be removed as of next week. To say they're prioritising micro-transactions over game fixes is a bit of a stretch as they're obviously still hard at work on features, improvements and bug fixes.

Which "very severe" and "very common" glitches and issues are you talking about?

As fun as this game is, I can't figure out for the life of me why so many people want to watch it streamed.

It helped me out a lot early on by watching some of the really good players like Viss, Grimmz and Ibiza just as far as seeing how they approach and deal with different types of situations, positioning for different terrain and end game circles, when to engage or not to engage a fight, awareness of where other players are or might be shooting you from when you can't initially see them etc.

I was fucking terrible at this game when I first started playing. I can definitely say watching good players helped me become much better and get my chicken dinners.

It would be nice to be able to look at a drivers seat when entering from the drivers side and actually end up in the driver seat for once.

The Dacia is the worst for this. I'll be standing right next to the driver-side door, hit F and I'm in the passenger seat. So annoying when you're getting shot at.

I do think that fixing bugs and optimizing should be the first priority, but there will eventually need to be more maps. I've already seen talk of the current map getting stale for people. Additional maps could keep the game feeling fresh for those folks.

They're working on two new maps so far. A much smaller 4km x 4km desert map which could be out in 3-4 months, maybe for when PUBG leaves Early Access, and a map with jungle at ground level around the outside of the map, and snowy mountain ranges in the centre of the map, but that won't be out until sometime next year at the earliest.

The number one priority isn't new maps or vaulting or better performance.

It's giving me a sprint toggle. God does the autorun/hold-to-sprint suck.

Let me guess, you play TPP?

Getting really tired of landing near another opponent and finding nothing but a backpack in my pile of loot while he gets a fucking M416 and full body armor.

That's my last 3 games so far tonight...

4 games.
