Xbox One X Preorder Thread

It matters. The more people who buy the console the more support it will hopefully get. You want the console ecosystems you are buying into to succeed.
And PS4 pro is out already. THe minimum expected will be similar or a bit better performance. It's good enough imho.

Is it possible to sell my Xbox one S without a controller ? I may want to keep it since I have only one (2 with Xbox one X controller )

Or else I sell everything and I buy an elite extra controller ...

is Jez reliable?

not surprising if true, I know many people on xbox that were starving for a decent xbox system

Jez is reliable everyone always takes what he says and amplifies it. I saw his tweet and thought wow the systems selling great so far, and some people will read it and think hes trying to say they sold millions already and he will then get trashed all over gaf even though it was their own interpretation of what he said.

So here's my question, as we're more or less treating this as our Xbox One X general discussion post now. Where do you all see Microsoft going with Xbox in the near future?

Do you think the Xbox One X is really just a "half-step" machine to last Microsoft until next-gen

OR

Do you think that they were being truthful with their "consoles without generations" statement? In which case, Xbox One X/Xbox One will share a library and hypothetically, Xbox Two/Xbox One X will share a library and drop support for the One/One S.

OR

Do you think it's somewhere in-between?

Yeah MS tech is his Job, he's pretty tight with the team. But he'll openly criticise them and has PS4 too, so he'll be unlikely to propagate bullshit.

Does he have a PS4? I've seen him openly state on Twitter that he would never own one, but maybe he changed his tune.

I also disagree with your comment about him unlikely to propagate bullshit about MS just by doing a quick review of his timeline.

True. But Xbox already has a 30 million deep console base. People are acting like only a handful of people own Xbox's. The ecosystem has succeeded it may not be PS4 levels but 30 millions is nothing to scoff at.

I swear sometimes people talk more then they play on Neogaf and just wait for NPD or review threads for positive affirmation. I don't it's tiring.

That's what it is.

Jez tweeted that he has word that pre orders far exceeded expectations.

Without know how many were made available it hard for us to know. With that said, at the 2 GameStops I went too (I needed one for me and one for my Wife), the amount of people that were calling or showing up was something I did not expect. I figured I would be the only one or maybe a few others, but in the first store I went too and seeing about 6 others in line and a few more walking in and they guy on manning the phones getting call after call was impressive. I think the $100.00 down helped some people out since I know of a few people that did not have a $100.00 on them to do it so they had to pass.

Assuming this new console sells really really well and the S continues to sell really well, maybe that will garner favor with MS to help get more First Party titles going. I know that Phil says stuff is on the way down the pipe, and maybe not for this Gen, but I'm hoping for positives.

That never happens on Gaf...Get out of here with such talk!!!

At least my EB had a lot of preorders left, sold back my refurb from microsoft store xbox one for 200$cad (which I had paid 250$ 3 years ago with a kinect, got to keep my kinect for my weekly skype with my parents) and 8 older games for a trade more save mor promo. Which means I owe 300$ max (and my wii u already fetched me 150) yay for trades.

EB seems out of stock online as is amazon in canada but I m pretty sure in stores you can grab one without any problems (damn that 599$ price)

I preordered two. Amazon and Microsoft. If there are no problems, and I receive both, the second is a gift. Mega hyped.

It's going to be really hard not to start Wolfenstein II while waiting for the X, but I have to wait. I can wait. It'll be easy. Easy.

Yeah but Xbox isn't Ouya, it's going to get decent support.

Oh. I'm not disputing the success that Xbox has had I am just saying you want to see people buying into the Xbox One X eco-system. It can play all of the Xbox One games but it's a unique beast on its own. You want developers to see a reason to support patches and development for the specific hardware.

I standby my point. It absolutely does matter that other people are buying the console and it matters that it sells well.

Scorpio is the new standard for Xbox imo. Make games look amazing on X, make the games work on S. In 3 years X becomes the S and the new system becomes the standard. S starts to ramp down as some games will soon stop being compatible. The cycle will then go on this way hopefully forever keeping BC intact and never refreshing library's again

Well we all know MS never give numbers, but it's more a glancing interest than anything else. The validation people get from sales here is the most baffling of things.

That's how I see it going, the best thing about PC on console. I'll be all over it.

I have an extra on pre-order as well. I went with Amazon because at the time, Gamestop did not know. About 30 min later GS said they had them good to go. I have a friend that wants one but is in a financial situation where he will have to wait...so it will make for a unexpected and shocking Christmas present for him and his family. Going to buy a year gold and an extra controller so he and his kids can play together on it and get them a few games.

True. I bet MS will tweet or Phil will tweet once they get very close to a sell out. I am sure they sold a lot of units with this pre-order, so I am sure we will hear something soon from MS about it. What will be interesting is when the non-Scorpio goes live with pre-orders. I know a few here do not like the Scorpio version, so for those it will be good that they start the non-Scorpio version.

I fully expected this to happen with the PS4 Pro and it did nothing of the sort so far. It's far more likely that Sony will drop a PS5 in the near future, signaling the end of the PS4 generation altogether.
But within a generation, the cheaper version of the console will always be trouncing the bigger, more expensive unit.

And that was the PS4 pro which launched at the original PS4 launch price. Xbox One X is increasing the price with another 100 bucks. I think it's going to be a tough sell.

Dont think the X will set sales on fire. But the Elite controller showed there is a big group that wants to pay for premium stuff.

Second option.
To an extent, I'd expect them to remain truthful to their vision. Play Anywhere is really the way to go from now on, and having more than one option console-wise looks to be the soundest option (specially if they keep beating the competition in terms of power in one of the SKUs at least).
That said, if by some miracle the One X starts to fly off the shelves and their PC initiatives don't take off as they'd like, maybe they return to console only releases. I could see them trying to make Halo 6 console only (for the first 5 months or so) and see if that moves a significant amount of units. Crossplay in that title would have to be handled very carefully anyway so maybe more time to get it fine tuned would be required.

For the record, I'm not a PC gamer primarily but I'd like XPA to succeed. It's simply what makes the most sense consumer wise.

Once I secured my pre-order, we had a meeting and figured we can cut you off of the stake now. Consider it a warning and next time you post shit like that there is no recourse and you will BUUURRRNNNN!!!

Thanks for the response folks! Honestly, that's what I'm expecting (and hoping for) as well. It just makes more sense for them in terms of providing consistent services and whatnot. That also makes me optimistic for the future of first party games on the platform now that they have services and hardware figured out.

If we get an "Xbox Two" that clears the table in a few years I'd honestly be pretty disappointed.

The vibes coming from Microsoft are not the same i get from Sony. I fully expect Sony to keep its traditional generations going until they are not number 1.

I think it will....but mainly due to the timing this thing is coming out. If it were releasing on March or so, outside of the launch frenzy it would fizzle a little. But this time of year, I think it will do very well. What happens starting in February and on-ward will be interesting to see. Same thing happened with the Pro, it sold decent and during the holidays some places sold out...come February and until now they are collecting dust on store shelves (in the sense they are easily available).

I just read some posts back that Amazon UK got back in some stock again, I hope this will be the case with Amazon.com also. For whatever reason I got a payment error with Microsoft.com. It was my first time ordering there too, so I'd rather just get it where it works.

It's a little thing, as awesome as the Project Scorpio text is, as well as the texture on the console, the main reason I want this so bad is due to the vertical stand that only comes with this. I use the vertical stand on my Gears 4 XB1 S on my desk and I plan to do the same with the X as well.

The usual suspects with no intention of ever buying Xbox proclaiming how it serves no purpose... Blah blah blah. It must be a very hard time for them.

The intentions may be different, but the market decides.

If a year from now, it's still the cheaper Xbox One S that's flying off shelves 10:1 over the more expensive Xbox One X, then it's never going to become the 'standard' Xbox.

That is, until Microsoft launches an even better version a year after that and phases out the XB1S. But as long as the S is the unit that's keeping Microsoft relevant, it'll be the standard Xbox.

Best Buy in the U.S. still has their Scorpio edition available for pre order. Wonder for how long. They also had Switch up for quite some time. I guess their buyer and buying power is HUGE to get that much stock OR, I guess, not as many people buy from Best Buy as they do from Amazon.com in the U.S.

Just had a call off a friend who was asking if I pre ordered and when I told him I hadn't and was gutted I missed out on the Scorpio edition he said it was just as well that he pre ordered two of them last night.

Result! :)

Worth noting that Best Buy will pre-authorize your card upon placing an order. So you do need a credit or debit card with $499 + tax available RIGHT NOW to successfully place an order. The hold comes off your account in a day or so, but it's definitely a decent chunk of change to put down right now.

Honestly that's how I can see them handling things from here on out. Release new hardware and give it about 3-4 years to outpace the previous model in terms of sales. Once that starts to die off significantly, or when the tech is too outdated for devs, they'll make the next box up the "base" model that they push. The strategy should work nicely in terms of discounting the hardware over time.

This is exactly what will happen, The X will sell what it sells but eventually Microsoft will use it as their base sku and introduce an better model when they discontinue the S.

Well I ordered from BestBuy yesterday as soon as it was available without issue. Realized I never applied an additional $100 in rewards certs lowering the cost of the XoneX. Called customer service who stated they could not be applied after the fact.

Long story short, it was still available via best buy online. Got all my windows ready, canceled the original order, and immedietly re-ordered with all my discounts. I got the confirmation email for release day, but this had to put me at the bottom of the list.....Hope I dont get screwed, but getting a XoneX for $250 was too good to resist.

I haven't seen much mention of them cancelling orders on people after they were placed.

Sounds like the exact opposite of Screwed. :)

I dont think it will be cancelled. Issue is if they oversell preorders, I wont get it day one. Yes its not the end of the world, but was hoping to have it day one.

I think you're fine.

I think you'll be fine, but worst case I'd say that the money saved is worth a wait! I know I won't have mine on launch day thanks to Target's shipping speeds, but saving $25 from them negates the taxes for me. Too good to pass up.

Of course, the savings is totally worth it which is why i took the chance to cancel. Anybody who says a 1X isnt worth it at that price is crazy.
