For one, perhaps "replayability" isn't the most important aspect when considering a game's structure and design. (That criticism always seems to pop up, not just for 4; that if a game isn't designed and paced for replaying, then it's poor design)

And two, just calling sections filler and padding doesn't make it so. Just because they slow down the pacing doesn't make them bloat, filler, and padding, if they're in service of the narrative and overarching pacing. You not liking those aspects doesn't make them extraneous

I don't understand why it's so difficult for people to understand this concept. It can't be any simpler.

Uh I never knew about Chloe being Indian-Australian. Thought she was full on white Australian..lol and now I find out Bruce Stanley has been mentioning this in his pre release interviews. Then again half Indian half white people can end up looking like anything really.

I wonder if they had this in mind when they created her character in UC2 or whether it's something they just inserted into canon like Sam in UC4.

I don't know if things have changed, an error has occurred or it just seems that way for now, but....

I got this from the season pass for U4, and so was not supposed to get J&D. I even had a little rant about it, but it has added it to my downloads and library when grabbing the free TLL download from the store.

Has this happened to others?

Those seem to be the default instructions. I checked the e-mails for my Horizon and Nioh pre-order bonuses and they were the same. Did not have any problems redeeming thos bonuses, but then I had already installed both games.

I believe they just updated her origin for TLL. Don't take my word for it though.

Yeah, it happened for others too. I'm not sure if it happened for everybody in the same situation though. Kinda funky.

Got a reply from Playstation UK support on Twitter regarding Jak:

Weird. I hated the first Uncharted. It had way too many gun fights for my taste. Could not finish it. Put me off the entire franchise. And now, I decided to trade in some game and tried this one out and I find it fantastic. Should I go back to The first one after I finish or just go straight for the second one? Thanks!

Get Uncharted 4. It still has dull gun fights, but far fewer. It's also fantastic narratively.

Well, the first one is worthy for characters interactions but it got really old. Maybe go straight to the second one and go from there. 2, 3, and 4 are much more spectacular. 4 has the more mature and complex script. 2 is the tighest. 3 is the craziest.

The first one is still the same game that you hated. It's the worst of the lot imo because it has issues with encounter design, not much variety in set pieces or locations.

Uncharted 2 is perfect in terms of pacing, variety and encounter design (except final boss). Uncharted 3 is Uncharted 2 with worse pacing and some issues with encounter design but it's still better than first imo.

Uncharted 4 is very much like Lost Legacy but with a lot more down time and off a lot more variety in locations.

In short play 2,3 and 4. You can ignore 1 because you'll probably still hate it for the exact same reason as first time.

I sincerely went into The Lost Legacy feeling like there wasn't much an Uncharted game could do at this point to surprise or impress me, but its tight pacing, likable characters and creative scenarios really won me over and added up to one of my favorite games in the series. It's undeniable proof that Naughty Dog is one of the most talented studios in the world that even a spinoff game produced in barely over a year could offer some of the most grandiose action and bafflingly gorgeous visuals in modern games. This is another reminder that it still feels like a privilege to play a new Naughty Dog game, even when it so strongly echoes the work the company has done before.

Playing through it and I'm on Chapter 8 now. I don't like Nadine, Asav is somehow a worse antagonist than Rafe, and I still don't really like Chloe.

The gameplay is better paced than U4 though, thankfully.

Sunhi adds his own post processing filter on top of the GIFs he makes. It's subtle but it's there. The improvements might just be his doing. But they do seem to have improved the artifacting atleast in object motion blur, camera blur is still the same.

And it will be amazing when you play the second one, already knowing Drake, Elena, Sully... it is also nice to see how the franchise evolved so greatly with Among Thieves.

I think you should play it. It is the worst in the series because of some dated gameplay design and mechanics in general, but it is totally worth playing.

Today, just over a year later, you can get your hands on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – the result of hundreds of the most incredibly talented and passionate individuals in the industry pouring just as much of their heart into Chloe's journey as any of Nathan's past. We knew this adventure through the Western Ghats of India was an ambitious one: chock full of touching moments, incredible vistas, daring escapes, and epic blockbuster sequences. Somehow, the team has pulled it off again and the result is truly stunning. It's a humbling reminder that with the right team, even the unthinkable is possible.

We at Naughty Dog thank your continued support that allows us to make the games we love, with the characters we adore. We couldn't be more proud of this game, and we hope you have room in your heart for another Uncharted hero.

Thank for your input Memento. Guess I should play it to get all the background. The far too numerous shooting sections makes me hesitant, but I'll give it a try, at least.

Downloading the update now. Giant Bomb praising the tight pacing gives me high hopes that it's more like U2 pacing rather than 3 or 4.

Yeah, I don't get people always saying skip UC1. It's relatively short and if you don't like the firefights, set the difficulty to Easy or Explorer. You'll miss out on introductory character moments from Nate, Sully and Elena, and some memorable villains. The vistas are also lovely, even though it's the same island throughout.

I second this recommendation. It's the least polished of the series but a very good game nonetheless and the story is great. It's got a lot of charm and IMO playing it will enhance your enjoyment of the other later games.

I guess from this post you're implying that Uncharted 4 has a weak start, I actually thought the first 5 or 6 chapters were super strong, and take you through quite a lot,
Boat set-piece > Young Nate & Sam > Prison, Sams "death" > Nate's job / home life > Sam flashback > Heist. I don't think the game really slows way the fuck down until Scotland, which is a very long chapter, although at that point the game really has to sell you on Sam for the rest of the game to work, if at that point you're not into him than I can see how it drags. I guess this game doesn't really have to establish new characters too much beyond a villain, so that probably helps the pace.

Asav's establishment was amazing. They made me hate him but a the same time respect him as a villain in such a short amount of time. Scary how great writing can go a long way!

Fully agreed. Actually felt the Nate's Job/Home Life chapter would have been a far stronger cold opening. Found the flash forward and flashback back-to-back jostling got in the way of the narrative flow and setup and far too forced.

Once I was playfully being tutorialized in Nate's office with the toy gun, that was the moment the Uncharted glee returned, before then it felt clunky and lacked much buy-in from me. By the time Sam resurfaced there wasn't much mystery or objection given the sequences we witnessed, which did steal a lot of potential engagement.

Although my largest grievance with U4 was how the entire crux of the game was built on a string of lies, guilt, and manipulation by damn near everyone(Nate, Elena, Sam, the villains). Kind of the point, but too predictable and irritating watching the web unravel in everyone's face. It stole away the thrilling adventure and sense of excitement that made us(or me) fall for Uncharted.

Lost Legacy is off to a simple start so far and I love it. Danger! excitement! treasure! (Just wish for once the villains didn't have an armed battalion magically teleport ahead of every step of the heroes)

That's great to hear, I loved Rafe, so I'm really looking forward to see what they do here.
 
What a fucking trip. Hell of a ride ND. Easily my second favorite behind Uncharted 4, and absolutley a "Best of" Uncharted compilation of sorts.

Going to be a fun platinum!

I'm with you on this except on the boat scene which I think it served pretty little. The prison/Batman Begins stuff was great and the everyday life chapters were amazing to me. Kid nate was fine, kinda long yeah but important to the plot.

Yep that's one of the things I really disliked about U4: the tone didn't really fit the franchise. I understand what they were going for, but too much bagage was starting to pile up. That's why TLL is so refreshing: not only does it cast off the weight and go for a more straightforward story that kicks into gear immediately, but the gameplay also reflects that, not messing around and giving us a much better mix of the Uncharted pillars we like. TLL is like... going back to the Uncharted basics and casting off the ballast of U4, but all the while applying what they've learned from the previous games. Good way to cap off the franchise.

So far on chapter 3 and I'm liking it. It's a bit disconnected at times with transitions from cut scene to new areas. Also right at the opening it felt like they just threw you right in, which is different compared to uncharted 4 where it takes time to build up. Overall it's good so far.
