They all have them. This game has a single player story?
MH3 had some really good character dialogue, and 4 and Gen weren't half bad, but I hope they don't attempt too much "narrative".
I also slightly worry about how health scaling will work if Online and Offline are the same. Previously online had a set health, and wether you were one person or 4 it didn't change, whereas SP was balanced for one person in damage and hp.
I assume it'll probably just be more in the middle, or they'll make Low rank baby easy and High rank more like online.
Where my G rank at
You can tell they were familiar with the returning characters, but there's a bit less effort put into making people stand out, or funny standout moments-- just a bit bland. To be fair, 3 all around and 4U were localized by 8-4, so the humor was on point. Gen was in-house at Capcom, and while it was in the same vein as 8-4's work, it wasn't quite as memorable.

Temporary Monster Companions
Tokuda: ”We have this new system where there are these native cat creatures in the environment and unlike the previous games you only have one Palico companion that can come on a quest with you, but your Palico can make friends with these native cats, who will teach them the language of the (smaller) monsters. Once they learn a few words, your Palico will be able to make friends with a (small) monster and temporarily join forces with it."
Ryozo: ”It's a situational thing though, they won't join you forever, so make the most of it when it happens."
The story of every game thus far:
>create your hunter, arrive in a village
"Hey there, our village out as we're under siege by INSERT THE MONSTER ON THE BOX ART HERE and could use some help with that!"
>go through the ranks, including a mission where INSERT THE MONSTER ON THE BOX ART HERE suddenly shows up during an otherwise benign quest, in order to gather the tools and resources necessary to finally tackle with INSERT THE MONSTER ON THE BOX ART HERE and emerge victorious
"Congratulations! But wouldn't you know, the problems haven't stopped, so there must be an even bigger monster out there causing all of these problems!"
>go through the ranks until you arrive at a climatic event battle where you fight the real threat to the village and emerge victorious
"Go play some multiplayer quests now, I guess."
I don't remember they've said that. :<"Go play some multiplayer quests now, I guess."

So that's what was going on in the IGN video from yesterday:
Palicos have cartoon strength. the more outrageous the situation the more powerful they become. That gif looks incredibly stupid. The palicoes would weigh a thousandth of that monster.

Being a lot heavier in itself doesnt necessarily decide that, its the momentum/strenght in the legs that matters the most. Same thing that one person can pull a jumbo jet, which can weigh way more than 1000 times of the person. Question is if those ~10 small creatures can generate enough strength to hold back the momentum generated from the legs of the bigger monsterThat gif looks incredibly stupid. I liked how they tried to shake up the single player in 4U to be more than just glorified quests with setpieces like that Gore boat fight, hope there's more like that in this game.
I wonder how much silliness they are willing to add to the story this time around considering the game's more serious look.
What sort of silliness I'm referring to? Look no further than the "Let's Nyance" ending to Monster Hunter Generations which completely caught me off guard the first time I saw it.

So lets assume the game comes out Feb/March, which is a pretty safe assumption. When do you guys think we will get the demo and what do you think will be in it?

It's fully voice acted without text windows IIRC.More useless text windows.
Because people play MH for the story.
Great.
4's story gets credit because it actually builds up to a satisfying final battle for Village Low Rank.I never understood the praise the story for 4 has gotten, since the only major twist they threw in there was keeping the central threat "the same," and 4U kinda messed with that with all the extra story that happens afterward that felt like them trying to start a new arc that goes nowhere with Seregios, other than acting like a clunky tutorial for explaining Apex hunting mechanics.. All of which is made all the more baffling when the actual final event monster that completes the story is a completely random inclusion of a long-existing subspecies of an Elder Dragon.

If you're looking forward to the demo, I am confident you will not buy the game. MH demos have always been terrible.
:X Not looking forward to that.
Generations barely has a story and it has more useless text windows than 4U. You're getting those regardless of story.More useless text windows.

Nobody gives a shit about the story post-Shagaru. But everything before that felt good.
Something that could be somewhat interpreted as bad news if you're desperate enough? I guess Switch loyalists are finally getting thrown a bone.
?
I'm not seeing bad news.

It seems after SFV, Capcom is putting emphasis on the story for all of their upcoming games during press talk.
