Seriously, what are people so fucking out of their minds for? The Tomb Raider game had XBOX EXCLUSIVITY for a while. Of course Microsoft is gonna get them to do some extra work on a game to, you know, PROMOTE THEIR NEW FUCKING CONSOLE.

Jesus.

LIKE OMG DIRT FACE TEXTURE GUYZ! Cutting my Pro owner wrists now!

Yes, it is annoying they don't give a shit about PC, but luckily I don't really care. Tomb Raider games are always very pretty and not much else but some good puzzles. I don't think they have ever had a great story, but I have not played the newest one.

Sharp - But some valid points, bar the last one - UC & The TR reboots are both great series.

No need for anyone to throw anything in the bin or decry the end is near

Good god!

Maybe I won't upgrade my PC this year and I might skip PS4 Pro.

New plan. Buy X1X to replace X1S,Keep PS4 Slim & upgrade PC in a year!

I wouldn't let this stop you from getting the Pro as well, especially if you have a 4K TV. I pre-ordered the 1X but still love the Pro all the same.

Now I'm confused, I just admitted that. So I ask again, why temporal injection for the Xbox one x version, given Nixis experience with cherboarding on the pro?

Oh I see, sorry I misunderstood your previous post. Who knows really why they went with a TI method for this version. Maybe the improved AA is a temporal AA and that plays a part? I'm still learning and don't know nearly enough to tell you if having TI and TAA play into each other like that. Maybe they saw performance gains by moving to TI and that allowed them to enhance the visuals further. As always, it's difficult to tell why a developer makes certain choices when you're not involved with the project.

Played the game on the Pro. It looked great. Comes as absolutely no surprise that the X has a better version - the hardware is more powerful.

I have no intention of buying the X, but I don't see why people can't admit that the version looked markedly better.

Yeah with added textures and time to polish the game for X. Better be.

Imagine Naughty Dog putting some time and added textures to U4 for Pro release.

Which is all I've been saying.

People will buy it, it has an audience, but it isn't going to change MS's position this gen.

Sony changed their postion last gen through first party software releases that really got strong starting in 2011.

Amazon numbers disagree with you. You can tell yourself over and over this isnt changing things but it is.

Spending so much money is rare, though.

Sure, it's not for everyone but it's the best way to go if you can.

There's no right or wrong really though (unless you believe the idiot fanboys) all the systems offer a great gaming experience these days. Just game on whatever you enjoy, some people want the best, some don't care if one version is slightly better.

I wonder how different the 4k and the enhanced modes will look at 1080p downsampled.

Obviously the enhanced visuals will look better but I wonder if the supersampled antialiasing will look worse due to the lower resolution and checkerboardinh/scaling.

From the comparison screenshot in the OP, the difference is way bigger than I thought. Looks significantly more detailed and better.

Nope. Some buying this early on are looking to flip for profit, but it's going to be hard for them to resell it.

X is not going to catch PS4 numbers. PS5 will come out end 2019 or early 2020. Microsoft is playing catch up right now.

This is just a comparison of the trailer though, not even direct footage. But I guess with gaming you never know, can go both ways. Although I really doubt we'll see any downgrades in a 4K patch, Jesus.

Locks down what deals? 1-month exclusivity for DLC? Please.

You're going to tell me Breath of the Wild didn't move the Switch? I know people that bought the PS4 just for Bloodborne, same with The Last of Us on PS3, same with Gears and Halo for XBOX.

I meant marketing deals, my bad. And obviously a console is more reliant on their exclusives when they barely have third party. The Switch and PS4's position is not even remotely the same.

And you knowing people doesn't mean much. In the grand scheme of things most console gamers play their yearly games with maybe a few exclusives thrown in there.

I love how you say all of this like it's factual.

Again, what does LL have to do with this thread?

It was stated the PS4 Pro couldn't handle games with the texture quality of this Tomb Raider version. I picked a game that I think can and that I think is fairly similar.
They are both action adventures, they are both technically/graphically similarly demanding, being fairly linear but with also a couple of open environments and they both run in 30fps (the 4k mode on Xbox One X does). Come on, they are similar types of games. I wasn't going to compare Tomb Raider with Horizon Zero Dawn or Tekken 7.
I by the way didn't compare it with the PS4 Pro version of Tomb Raider, because that is an old version, as is the PC version. As we can clearly see the Xbox One X version is graphically even improved over the best PC settings. I doubt it is because the Xbox One X is more powerful than a top of the line gaming PC, but because they obviously went back to the game and polished it up significantly. They even said so in the trailer of the Xbox One X version.
There, that was my reasoning for bringing up TLL.
I'm also not in any way doubting that the Xbox One X is more powerful and can run games at a higher resolution, higher graphical settings or higher framerates than the less poweful PS4 Pro.

So is this officially the new gfx king or are we still praising the order/ryse/uncharted?
lol rotr even with upgraded textures doesn't come close to the order still. Imo

I love how you say all of this like it's factual.
The latter half is most likely factual. Wouldn't you agree? Or do you expect Xbonx to suddenly turn the tide??

It won't. But it's not expected to, by ms own words.

They added texture upgrades plain and simple. The Dof gives the illusion of clearer backgrounds, but look at the dirt on the skin and the particle effects vs the pc ultra mode.

Most of these updated visuals have nothing to do with hardware capability apparently.

You can't just write off "upgraded textures" and having nothing to do with hardware capability. Those upgrades likely weren't made to the PS4 Pro version for a reason (lacks the RAM for them). Sure, the PC could certainly have been patched to be on past, but that doesn't mean the PS4P version could, otherwise there's a good chance it simply would have been last year. It's not as though they half-assed the PS4P version. It was being cited as a shining example for Pro upgrades.

I also don't get why so some posts are mentioning that "they've had an additional year", as though the same couldn't have been said for the PS4 version when compared to XB1.

this. like what are we fighting over here? some kinda of console warrior pride? We have known for awhile that the Xbox 1 X was going to be a more powerful machine, now why are we(playstation fans) now trying to spin this with Uncharted? just because tomb Raider looks better doesn't mean were about to lose the all our exclusives and out currently library becomes meaningless or we won't have games with great graphics.

and for the few MS zealots in here; calm down I'd would at least think both Sony and MS have had their share of humble pie....we all should've leanred from this.

So this isnt using the X1 enhanced mode? Wonder if that 4kcb enhance is better rhen 4k native mode
On the ps4 pro it refined and added some effects like tessellation, better hair, better dof, and the one I compared here is motion blur during gameplay:

I would definitely play this game in enhanced mode on the x1x because it is going to look much better than the 1080p pro version.

Couldn't the depth of field effect present on the PS4 Pro version not also be sometimes utilized not solely for the atmosphere it may add to a scene, but also to hide less flattering detail so the player can instead focus on the parts that actually look best?

That's Naughty Dog level of detail.

Good shit!

It does make the PS4Pro look straight up bad. Flat, even.

For sure but what I don't get is, why can there be super detailed faces on PS4 and Pro but for Rise of the Tomb Raider it couldn't be done? Or are these actually the 4K textures at work?
