Final Fantasy XV team (Square Enix BD2)'s next game is targeting the PS5/XB2 gen

Also, I thought Ivalice was in a completely different universe.

Square, plz

FFXIV has a Doma and a Cyan. FFXIV has a Crystal Tower. FFXIV has a Diablos and an Alexander. FFXIV is not in the same universe as FFVI, FFIII, FFVIII, or FFIX.

These are not cameos, these are actual story elements that build the world and history of FFXIV, but draw from other FFs for fanservice.

FFXIV has an Ivalice, and in it a Dalmasca and Rabanastre. Delita is a hero who legend says rose up from low birth to save the world and unite Ivalice. What is the truth? What are the lies?

FFXIV is not in the same universe as FFT. But in the light of the mother crystal all things are possible.

Makes me genuinely wonder if VII Remake has switched development to aim for the new generation of consoles. It's gotta be years off, had that big switch in development, and hey, wouldn't be Nomura's first time, right?

Yoshi-P will not stop until he has harvested all the other FFs for assimilation into FFXIV. "Creator" from FFIV: The After Years is actually Yoshi-P's final evolution after he has gone mad in the far future and condensed all the other FF universes into Crystals.

So I take it they ain't switching engines anytime soon?

Luminous 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Nope. They're using Luminous for their new IP:
And you believe this?
As it happened sometimes in the series there is a small chance SE suddenly says we're gonna rebrand your new game as FFXVII, yeah, but anyway, in the last two years Tabata has stated several times that he wants to do something that's not FF next.

If FFXVI is in development I wonder which team is in charge.
BD5 (the FFXIV team) has been hiring for a big project since last year. Yoshida doesn't necessarily have to be the director either; there are other people there who could take on the task of leading a mainline FF for the first time.

Inuhanyou

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
So 2019/2020?

what i'm worried about is this multimedia bullshit detracting from a competent story

This makes no sense: We still have around 3 years before Next gen starts, and then we still have a year and a half before all the big companies abandon last gen consoles. It would make sense to release a new IP on a bigger install-base.

If only Square would stop jerking off about technology, as it did XV no favors.

Whatever Tabata's next project is, we know it's not FFXVI, but I'd be extremely surprised if it were a new IP given that the level of risk for AAA development gets higher and higher each generation.

I'm definitely in the minority on this, but I don't have a problem with Itamuro at all. I think she has some surprisingly good writing in the game, it's more of a direction problem, really.

FFXV really shines in the character interaction, the whole brotherhood/road trip aspect. There aren't many cutscenes, and they're not great, and the grander plot needed to be better explored, but they don't have to go for that again in a new IP. They can just focus on their strengths, and make a game around that.

It's in the moments of tranquility that FFXV really shines, and it's still one of the few examples of well done male camaraderie in games. They really love each other, and it shows. It's part of the reason why I think the anime is much more important than the movie.

That said, with talks of making it another multimedia project, I doubt that'd be the case, so yeah. It's not even in development, though, so we'll see.

Several of the major team leads on FFXIV stepped down after Heavensward, including the director of The Last Remnant and the FFXII lead planner. :)

I Lost the ffxvi news, why this one cant be It?
Because of all his statements in the last two years and most recently too about wanting to make a new IP not FF-related after FFXV. Besides you can be sure FFXVI is already in development anyway. If Tabata's next game would be rebranded as a FF it would be FFXVII.

Yay. Luminous Engine is better than UE4 atleast on consoles in terms of getting more out of the hardware for their games.

Now if they will only use the same game tools or a good middleware engine, then we can avoid another 10 year dev cycle.

I think the series is due for another FFIX-back-to-basics moment. Please?

I'd be way down for this and I don't even like IX or fantasy settings in general. FF needs a shake up, I'm playing DQ11 now just screaming "see guys, it isn't that hard!!"

Good Art™
Ts ts ts, Square was able to output 3 original and unique ff in a generation before, and they were way better than now -__-

They're doing something terribly wrong.

You're always good at sourcing info...

Why is why I'm stunned you haven't sourced that I'm the director for FFXVI.

In 2.0 and Heavensward, Hiroshi Takai and Mitsutoshi Gondai were assistant directors. Kazutoyo Maehiro was the main scenario writer. Takai was the director of The Last Remnant. Gondai was the lead battle designer for FFXIV. Maehiro was a lead planner on The Last Remnant and worked as a planner/designer for all of Matsuno's "Ivalice" games - FFT, VS, FFXII.

At the end of the Heavensward patch cycle, just before Stormblood, all three stepped aside. Stormblood is carried by new leads who were promoted from the respective teams. So we have a director, a battle planner, and a scenario writer, who worked on the most well received FF game in the last decade, suddenly doing nothing for about a year now.

14's leads doing 16 would be something I would like to see. So what internal team is gonna be handling VII-R then?

Oh lord have mercy if they are waiting until KH3 ships to put that team on it.

Just in time for them to cancel it and make it for PS6. Then it can release with a completely dog shit story.

FF XVI in Ivalice would be amazing. And I think this will happen with all of the XII Remaster and Ivalice dungeon in FF XIV.

No.

I want mainline Final Fantasy to continue in the core tradition of ensuring every mainline game is different and isn't a retread of a previous mainline world/universe.

Honestly if XVI is anything like XII or XIV then I'm not going to be looking forward to it whatsoever tbh.

Same.

This just means Square gave them the Ito boot.

To clarify, isn't this specifically the core XV team?

Couldn't a different team be working on XVI separately?

Maaaaan, this is great news! I really like The Last Remnant, sheeeit.

I don't care if it's Final Fantasy XVI or whatever, but it sounds very likely that they're at least making a game, so that's enough for me to be excited.

Or maybe they're just joining Ito in his basement.
