Pelosi and Schumer must be shocked this actually worked.

What in the world is this guy doing?

He's making sure the government can pay Federal Aid to RED STATES affected by Hurricanes in the next 3 months so they keep voting Republican.

He don't give a fuck about Blizzards in Blue States though. That's why it ends in December.

Trump: Debt increase? Sure, why not? If it gets to be a problem we can just declare bankruptcy. I do it all the time!

Aides: I'm not sure that works on a governmental level.....

I hope people who want Pelosi and Schumer to step down look at this and realize how good they actually are

Why were Rs opposed? Kicking the can down the road is their bread and butter.

Voting to lift the debt ceiling is tough for the GOP because many conservatives are opposed to it and/or don't believe anything bad would happen if we defaulted on the debt. McConnell and Ryan only wanted to have this vote once, and kick the can down past the midterms before having to deal with it again. This ensures that the GOP will need to take another painful vote on the debt ceiling in just three months.

When are people finally going to realize that Trump is playing his own hand of cards? Not a R hand, not a D hand?

They lose their immediate bargaining chip. Now instead of saying "We're going to close the government if you don't give us (BLANK)" it's back to square one with a lot more time for discussing and arguing instead of getting what they want now.

If it keeps getting pushed back, it could have MAJOR consequences since mid-term elections are next year.

Ah.... appreciate it.

Trump to GOP:
* Go solve DACA
* Work on Tax Reform
* Fix OBAMACARE
* Approve with Hurricane support

GOP: But Debt ceiling is looming, we have to cut programs to agree on a budget, there is no time.

Trump approves 3 month extension on debt ceiling with Dems.

Trump to GOP:
* NOW go solve DACA and
* Work on Tax Reform
* Fix OBAMACARE
* Approve with Hurricane support

He is going to keep kicking the bucket until the GOP deliver all his campaign promises.

It's because he wants the wall funded and he wants it attached to upcoming unrelated votes. He's moving this out of the way for that

2 sentences from Trump’s gaggle on AF1 that are extremely telling: he said "We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer."

Trump: “[A]lways we’ll agree on debt ceiling automatically because of the importance of it.” That’s something, from a Republican president

I'm shocked that there is suddenly interest in going back to routine clean debt ceiling increases now that Obama is out of office

Yeah I mentioned in the PoliGaf thread that it was weird how he was praising Pelosi and Schumer and didn't even mention Republicans.

Maybe Trump starts to like Democrats cause they help get shit done? who knows. Or maybe Trump being Petty because of Ryan's and McConnell's failure to get anything done.

I would love to know how Pelosi and Schumer pulled this off.

Clearly they brought a PowerPoint presentation featuring Donald's very large hands holding aloft a giant pile of money, and then explained that the hands represented his bigly power as president and the money represented the debt ceiling that he would raise to solve America's problems.

Boom. Art of the Deal.

I remember having a conversation a long time ago with a friend from Minneapolis that Trump could kinda flip and work with Ds since so much of the non-racist Nationalist agenda essentially looks a heck of a lot like an old pre civil rights Dem agenda and overlaps with Bernie.

This is probably just Trump getting pissy at Ryan though.

I told you the Dems should call the bluff on DACA. Great work by Pelosi and Schumer. Got to get that clean Dream Act passed. Fingers tightly crossed.

I think it speaks to just how close the GOP actually is in having an all out civil war on its hands.

Perfect. Trump isn't trying to do anything here but piss off Paul and Mitch because of their criticism toward Trump in the last month or so.

You are either with him or against him. As soon as you say anything negative about him, you are an enemy.

But... the other people are also his enemy.

My hypothesis as an alternative to "he was pissed at Ryan and turtle:"

Trump thinks "dems want money to pay for things"

Trump thinks "3 months isn't a very large number, we're not giving up much if we put thisoff for 3 months. Let's worry about the storms and daca now"

Trump doesn't figure out how it gives dems more leverage overall across the next year and a half

I said this in PoliGAF, but if Democrats somehow won Congress in 2018 I could see them coaxing Trump into signing some progressive legislation pretty easily (before you know, impeaching him).

Playing Trump as a useful idiot while Mueller does his thing in the background probably isn't a bad idea. In fact, if they're successful at getting Trump removed from office, it might even make Pence look less popular by comparison as he's far more ideological than Trump is and would be less likely to sign such bills. Win win win.

What makes this such a good thing for democrats?
The Republicans wanted to kick the can to after the next elections so they wouldn't have to deal with it for a while and could focus all their energies on repealing healthcare, cutting taxes, you know, the usual bullshit.

This way, Democrats get to leverage the situation in December for something else - probably a vote on the DREAM Act (which would pass easily if GOP Congressional leaders actually put it up to a vote). If nothing else, they'll have succeeded at running out the clock on the GOP's important legislative priorities.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I wonder if Trump is actually willing to listen to Schumer/Pelosi entirely out of spite at how the Republicans in congress aren't doing exactly what he wants.

It would certainly fit with his character.

But... the other people are also his enemy.

He's got a short attention span and only seems to obsess about whoever his "main enemy" is at the time, which seems to be Republicans like Jeff Flake, Ryan, and McConnell. They used that to their advantage.
