Ok you jerks are getting me to daydream about the few moments I had a good time in RE6 and second guessing my distaste for the game
I swear if I see this on a Steam sale and I pick it up there'll be he'll to pay
Still pretty sure the campaign sux tho
...was Mercs available right from the start?
The campaign in 6 is better with the "you can't get game over from missing QTEs" option on that was patched in later. Some other small fixes increased the QoL significantly, too. As for Mercs, in the original release, you had to beat the entire game to unlock all of the non-DLC stages if I recall and that was not so good. The first stage was pretty great though.
1/2/Remake are still anime, right down to the sentai-style color-coordinated outfits (Jill's blue beret, Chris' green vest, Barry's red vest, etc).
Is the color palette all that you use to determine whether it is anime? Metal Gear is hardcore anime and is as bland in its palette as is Gears. Sorry, not buying into this line of reasoning.
If you want a better argument to use, you could point to Rebecca in the original. Much of her characterization is pure anime. Thankfully, she's not in the better of the two scenarios and her role there is minimal outside of her involvement in the Richard saga.
Even Mikami has never been a fan of hers:
Shinji Mikami in Guardian Interview said:
”If I had to name the woman character I most disliked in my games it would be Rebecca Chambers," he says. ”She's submissive, she's not independent. I didn't want to include her but the staff wanted that kind of character in the game, for whatever reason. I'm sure it made sense to them. And in Japan, that character is pretty popular." He shrugs despondently.
Rebecca is so anime that I can see why Mikami wouldn't have wanted her in. Thankfully the weakness of that character isn't enough to mar an otherwise excellent game that, fortunately, is distanced from anime as a whole. RE1/2 borrow a lot from something, but it's not anime; it's western horror.
