Glad to see I am not the only one luke warm about this chapter. There's a lot of little things that bugged me, but the big thing being how straight this was all played. I feel like i knew everything that was going to happen this chapter since thw begining of the fight.

Mirio's still pretty great and i love that short flashback of his life as he loses his quirk.

Also props to the guy who mentioned Mirio is in a fist fight with a guy that can kill him by touching him! Like jeez Overhaul, you can do more then just spikey floor attack, can't you?

Mirio has been punching him for minutes, it is like boxing, Mirio was surviving by overwhelming Overhaul with punches. If you look closely his head is alll bloody. If anything Overhaul should be ko'd right now, but I guess Deku have to do something this arc.

Maybe Mirio will now become a cop.

Because I don't think he will give up helping people just because he doesn't have a quirk anymore

He is still strong enough to be a good hero. He just need good support equipment.

Maybe the girl can reverse the effect, his quirk is way too rad for it to be gone forever. It'd be a cool spin if it did though. Also, people are weird. Why do they want a good character to die? Just for edginess'/darkness sake? There's more interesting character development to be had by having LeMillion deal with the aftermath of being quirkless rather than just him being dead. Same when other heroes realize their quirks are in danger of being gone, which for some heroes, it might as well be death.

Will agree with others though, a great chapter, but I've never been more bummed to see Deku's face.

I don't think anyone actually wants Mirio to die. But at the same time, I guess the universe is presented as being realistic enough where I could understand why someone's wondering why he was able to stall for 5 minutes against Overhaul's abilities despite being quirkless. And then like others have said, it feels like the manga pulls its punches at times.

Deku is the narrator. He's probably telling his life story to his successor or grandchildren or whatever.
He feels guilty about not giving Mirio OfA after he lost his quirk and so he exaggerates this retelling to make Mirio come across as an uber-badass that went out with a bang.

I dont understand, people wanted someone to die, but then they dont want a significant character to die, a pointless random no name dying is just the same as not killing anyone. At some point hes going to have to decide if he wants to follow his senpai like Kishimoto and Oda and pull the trigger on someone important that folks care more about, and certainly not All Might.

It is impossible to make everyone happy.

Either way I think the panel with Mirio's smiling is the best panel in the manga outside the camp and rescue arcs. It's incredible how Horikoshi made a character with a funny face show so many expression in the last chapters.

This is like the other side of this for me, where i think the fight should be fucking done! Overhaul has been getting the shot beat out of him for like five minutes. What is there left for Deku to even do?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
At first I thought "maybe overhaul's quirk is just really crude" then I remembered he can literally repair people in an instant so IDK.

Spikes I guess.

I absolutely love this development. It gives Deku a possible rival, who could end up representing what Deku would have been without AfO. A solid thematic counterpart. A quirkless hero would be a great contrast to everybody else and could lead to some really dynamic fights. It also sets up a huge emotional dilemma for Deku.

I have no clue why people want Mirio dead. That adds nothing to the story as compared to what ended up happening.

Overhaul's quirk is super good. Healer, one hit KO short range, long range attacker, and can be support by morphing the ground.

Also can he heal himself?

He can probably only instant kill people if he gets his palm to connect, but I guess Mirio is too skilled to get hit. If he can't turn the ground into guns or something (and doesn't just have a gun on hand for some reason) then turning the ground into spikes probably would be the best course of action. Why it took him five minutes to do that is questionable, but maybe Mirio was just punching him too much.

I think they'll leave the possibility open that Mirio hasn't lost his quirk permanently, but instead for an indefinite period.

I doubt he can since people are usually immune to their quirks or at least resistant

Plus he will be dead before he can repair himself since it looks he has a short time frame

I'm pretty sure he probably kept trying but either Mirio overwhelmed him or kept dodging

Didn't he kill Magne with just a finger?

He's also brought people back with a snap of a finger, which is where I think his power's drawback is- he needs an equivalent exchange and can't kill someone else until he revives her. (which he doesn't want to do in the middle of a battle for obvious reasons.)

If the author wants to bring Mirio back to the story in the future, seems like that there's two options:
1. Background character that help people
(Not focused in any panel, very subtle)
-> Find a Mirio challenge
2. Shiragaki who wants Mirio in the V.A.

1. Is a good way because the MC is Midoriya.

Fully agreed.

We also know for a fact that All Might will be dying soon. I actually quite liked how that completely played out, I think it was too early for him to have died back then. I would also honestly be more interested in seeing with how Mirio will deal later.

In this very thread we talked about how tragic it would be if he had lost his quirk knowing how hard he worked to nearly perfect it. I guess the execution wasn't up to par, but overall the direction is still interesting than if he'd just died this last chapter. That being said, this chapter wasn't surprising or anything so I do understand the criticism especially with how unreasonable it is that he survived that fight for five more minutes without a quirk.

I 100% love Mirio haha.

What they actually mean when saying they want someone dead (whether they know it or not), is that they want lasting consequences, instead of someone being beaten half to death and being fine and dandy 2 days later.
Killing of an important character is the easiest way to show 'yo, no one is safe!', but Mirio permanently losing his quirk has the same effect and produces more interesting consequences in the story, soo.....

I just hope he doesn't easily regain it after this arc, that would undermine everything.

I just re-read the chapter.

The first thing Mirio did after losing his quirk was punch Overhauls "creation" arm. And he did land a pretty heavy punch, because that arm had marks on it for the rest of the chapter.

Maybe it's because that arm was hurt so badly that Overhaul wasn't able to do his big attacks anymore. Because remember, quirks are just bodily functions. If a certain body part is hurt it could very well be that the quirk bound to it won't function perfectly either.

Not only that but, Overhauls brain was still rattled/shaken from the previous attacks Mirio landed too. Its why we barely see overhauls pupils for most of the fight since those initial punches he was hit with, had shaken his brain and overwhelmed him. I think a lot of people that are annoyed that Mirio was able to last so long quirkless forgot about that. Deku even narrates this as overhaul throws the bullets to his ally.

Its like boxing, when they take too many hits to the head. Can't focus and their senses are thrown off during the fight.

My general assessment of it was that Mirio tried his best to keep the pressure on, because he could no longer afford to be on the defensive. Gets in close so the most obvious means of attacking him, for Chisaki, is to just try and touch him - but he's got better odds of dodging than than he does the whole floor of spikes. Meanwhile if he's punching the motherfucker's arm, they can't even extend it to try and touch Mirio to begin with. Basically boxing Chisaki as best as Mirio can, because that's the only way he'd have a chance to getting through this.

Makes sense. It's funny that his best chance against someone who can kill with a touch is to stay very close to him and stop him from touching anything.

Deku's gonna figure out a way to share OFA with Mirio and it's going to be a Guyver Gigantic/Shazam situation where the stronger willed user gains more of the power.

It's likely why he threw the guy at him to catch him off balance so he could pound on him

Quirk death has become synonomous with death in this manga that I wonder when he is going to actually have someone important die in the present.

Ingenium: Crippled. Literally can't use his quirk. Used "leaving him alive to send a message" as an excuse on why Stain didn't kill him.
Ragdoll: Had her quirk forcefully taken by All For One. Her post-quirk snatched body did not look healthy. Teammates were crying like they literally lost the life of a teammate.
All Might: One for All's last ember's finally burned out with the conclusion of the All For One fight.

and now we potentially have Mirio added.

I guess Deku and All might were dead until OFA

I think it's more like a professional athletes or cop being crippled and unable to work like they used to especially since they grew up with it and trained it for all their life

Meanwhile I'm like, where the hell is Camie...

99% chance she is dead.

That body was too good for Deku's world. I really wonder what her personality was like since her classmates noticed she acted different. At the same time, when morphed, how the fuck does Toga keep her craziness dialed down.

so since quirks are genetic and children can inherit some form of their parents' quirks, how come one for all holders don't have kids and make more super babies so there can be a squad of godlike heroes instead of just one?
