Giant Bomb |OT32| I've been meaning to love a boat

If they bothered him they bothered him but a lot of Jeff's gripes warranted Brad saying "yeah, that didn't bother me"

And Brad aknowledged plenty of issues with the game and brought up a few himself.

He just also really, really likes it.

Personally, I'm glad loot treadmills don't really do it for me anymore.

Yeah, that stuff is what I dislike the most, especially since Brad can articulate himself pretty well on most subjects

Not saying he shouldn't fight for his favorite game, but man he better come in better prepared than back then with D1

He won't be alone this time. Beast crew got his back.

True. He even had to state he liked the game afterwards because he spent so much time focusing on issues he had with it

It's funny that the one thing Brad doesn't immediately flip opinions on after Jeff's input is destiny. That's how you know

Like honestly if it makes the top 10 this year I don't really mind. The only reason it annoyed me in 2014 was because no one else wanted it on the list other than him. And Jeff who only wanted it on there out of some sense to show how bad 2014 is for games to him.

If giantbomb likes it enough to be top 10 it's top 10.

I haven't listened to this week's bombcast yet. I don't actively dislike Destiny I just give so little of a shit about it I can't bring myself to listen to an hour of anyone talking about it.

Following the Ben/Abby discussion from earlier, is it just me or does Ben lean a lot more towards innuendo/explicit stuff and that kind of humour than most of the others and has pushed GBwest that way slightly? Like even more of a boys club..

I definitely noticed it when he first started, as he would make those kind of remarks about almost everything when he was trying to make a joke, which was often.

He's fine apart from that but I wish he would cut it out, its things like that that make women uncomfortable in male dominated fields.

Women also enjoy sex jokes. And sex.

It's clearly going to make the Top 10 list.
If Brad got Destiny 1 on the list, a game only he liked, he'll get Destiny 2 on it as well.
And that's fine

I kind of wish I was more interested in Destiny, if that makes any sense. Only experience was one of the betas for part one. I'm always looking to scratch a PSO itch. Like, maybe I'll pick up D2 when the first big expansion drops.

that 6 week delay for destiny on PC is still the worst

they hype will be long gone by then and all the discoveries will have been made, and I will 100% get spoiled by then

I don't get the Jason only likes fighting games and anime? I mean yea he talks about them but he plays a large variety of games. Look at last year, his two most played games were probably overwatch and rocket league. He talks about a bunch of other games too. He got into Nioh, hellblade and more.

He doesn't talk much (or get to talk much it seems, the minute gag) but he's also not an editor.

I don't know though, I like all of GB for different reasons.

Yea the wait sucks haha. Gonna be worth it though, pc version was miles better just comparing the betas. I'm not worried about getting spoiled, story isn't gonna be anything special from what I've seen haha.

Yep, it super sucks. A two-week delay would have been annoying but ultimately negligible. ~6 weeks feels like an eternity and is a real disservice to PC players.

Would it matter for a game that's meant to be rerunned over and over?

It's been pretty easy to avoid any story stuff for Destiny 2 and it probably sucks ass anyways, so no worries there. If I'm going to be playing a loot treadmill for dozens of hours I want it on the best playing platform. Plus I can watch something on the second monitor while playing that is more entertaining, like UPF.

heh it's 2017, half the fun in gaming is being part of the initial hype and listening to podcasts/talking about it

GAMING IS DEAD

Hah, that's fair enough. I think that might be partly why I haven't really been in a rush to play Horizon either.

I do kinda miss being in the zeitgeist, but I have to be in a mood for loot games. FPS even more so. And I'm not really in the mood for either unfortunately.

I'm with Ben, Failsafe is awesome. When you do Adventures and learn more about her, you'll like her even more.

I mean like, just this bombcast they talked about a quest trick where you turn all of them in at a specific time etc etc

Thats the things I'd love to be part of, discovering those is always fun.

Like I can't imagine playing Dark Souls 1 today, everything has been said and done and ressources are everywhere, the sense of "community" is dead and that's a bummer. I'm afraid that's what Destiny 2 is going to feel like 6 weeks from now

I put in like 107hrs on Dark souls PC even though I've already played it on PS3. And I didn't take part of the PvP community.

Dark souls doesn't need gimmicks to be fun as fuck.

meh if Destiny 2 making the list is going to be more of brad dismissing Jeff's complaints about the game during then I forsee a lot of eye rolling on my part when I listen to goty.

I just hope Jeff can strong arm big boss man it to like, 9 or 10. Who knows what it'll push off and sacrifice to make the list.

Then again at the end of the day I look forward to Ultra sun and moon, so I guess everyone has something they're like this for:

Not really related to your point, but I really disagreed with Jeff on this one. That trick is really only useful if you plan on raiding on day 1. I think it has done more harm than good since the OT is filled with people worried they screwed up by turning it in early when you can easily reach raid level just by completing the other content out there.

Personally I would rather have the better gear available as I level up than wait until I'm already high enough to complete all the content in the game to turn it in.

I dunno, I played Dark Souls for the first time when it came out on PC and I didn't get spoiled on anything, at least nothing important. I'm not worried that there won't be anything left to discover once Destiny is out on PC, I simply avoid Destiny threads. Worked fine in the past.

Well, of it's any consolation I don't think Destiny is a game with a bunch of hidden stuff or things to explore that gives a sense of community like Dark Souls or even Fez at launch. If it's like the first game, which I heard it very much is, then it'll be a very system driven game with pretty clear paths, with not much to actually discover. I think "mechanical" is what the Bombcast called it.

I remember one of the only cool things the community discovered in Destiny 1 was that loot cave that everyone just shot into for hours on end.

That Monster Hunter Minute gag still comes off as dickish after the hour of Destiny 2 talk, especially with the inclusion of a timer. I understand the rest of the crew isn't really interested in MH and it's a running joke, but give Jason at least a few minutes to talk about the game. Giving him some time to try and stretch his commentary chops every week would probably mean he actually improves in describing why he enjoys the games he does. Instead, with such limited time we'll continue to get the same surface-level response for the games he plays.

Destiny discussion is good. The different burns during NF are supposed to be shown in the game with a visual marker but it's bugged right now. Bungie has been working on it. Jeff's complaint is valid.

I disagree. Women have delicate sensibilities. They need to be protected from dick jokes, they just can't handle them.

It's kind of funny that men are way more uncomfortable hearing women make vagina jokes than women are uncomfortable hearing men make dick jokes.

I played Moon when that came out. But I always need a break of several years in-between the Pokémon games. They're always the same and huge time sinks. But I still play them because of nostalgia and they're still cute.

I feel bad about how Jason is jokingly rendered to having just a minute to talk about the games he's interested in. I know he's always been a producer, but yeah, I think it's not that wild to assume constantly getting told he's no good at articulating himself and that his taste in games is strange and to be made fun of by the community that he works so very hard to serve would get to him and make it even harder for him to improve that skill (which can be learned and honed) to express himself.

Yes, he's not the most eloquent. Doesn't mean his opinion isn't worth listening to or should just be minimized even more. I would actually really like it if he were in more content where he can keep getting better at expressing himself while also diversifying the stuff featured on the site.

Rorie's also not the best public speaker, but I find his bravado, self-awareness, and rambliness hilarious. Humor is a matter of taste, of course, and I can understand why some people don't appreciate his comic genius. The rest of the crew can play off him pretty damn well, and I enjoy whenever he does show up on streams and podcasts.

The criticisms by Jeff and Brad against Destiny 2's presentation, at least regarding the story and the world-building, ring hollow to me given how they never gave the impression with the first game of actually appreciating any of the lore and "mystery" of the first game. They were (rightfully) incredulous back in 2014 for how hidden away every bit of interesting story was. It seems to be a quibble they got from fans of Destiny 1 who legit adored that aspect. Suddenly having this about face regarding that stuff feels very nitpicky. They brought up Adventures and the post-game story missions, but I feel those sidequests more than adequately fill my desire for world-building, fulfilling the job of the grimoire cards in a way that's actually engaging, since, you know, you're playing the game this time instead of just reading stuff on a website.

I do agree that the actual plot of the game isn't really anything to write home about. It's bog standard sci-fi. The cutscenes are nice to look at, I guess?

I'm with Ben. Failsafe is good, especially the more you do the side stuff with her. Some of your Ghost's lines are okay, but I find the VA to be bad most of the time. Nathan Fillion performs his role well, no doubt, but yeah, a lot of his writing is very cringe-worthy.

What's outstanding with Destiny 2's campaign isn't really the narrative. Like Jeff and Brad hinted at and what I assume they'll discuss thoroughly in the spoiler cast, it's the set pieces and the moments. That game also looks really damn good through its scale and art direction.

A lot of the discussion regarding the obfuscated leveling mechanics sound way more intimidating than it actually is, and it's all coming from the perspective of people who obsessively played a game with a ton of content less than a week that it's been out. I got close to the minimum recommended power level for the raid just playing the story missions and the optional content here and there without ever consulting a single thing online. Progression is so streamlined and so much faster than vanilla Destiny 1, and I still have a decent amount of side quests I haven't touched!

A normal human being playing the game leisurely will have so much stuff to experience at an even keeled rate. That kind of player won't even think about optimizing their playthrough to play the raid the week it releases, which is something the GB crew seem to be aiming for.

And if you do wanna get into that, you do what a lot of GAMERS do nowadays and look up a guide online. Then when you do start that process, which I have, it's light years ahead smoother than trying to get raid ready in the first game. That was a boring, frustrating grind for me back then, trying to farm hard-to-find mats for extremely narrow upgrade paths. I had fun the entire time getting past the high power range for the raid, and I did it in a couple of days doing all sorts of activities!

oh and yeah the loot looks fucking cool and the shooting feels good destiny 2 top 5 goty contender let's go

I wasn't that impressed by Destiny's 2 campaign. For me the main story was as incidental as doing the adventures and lost sectors. That game is all about the shooting and the loot and making your power number go up, story or not.

It also felt a little rushed and the ending comes out of nowhere. It was also not challenging at all, I kept waiting for it to be hard but I think I only died once throughout the whole thing. This isn't a boast because I am pretty bad at games compared to most people on NeoGAF probably.

I am looking forward to the strikes though, those were the best bits of vanilla Destiny (I didn't do the raid).

As a sequel it feels like two steps forward and one step back, so one step forward I guess?

Also, Failsafe is fucking terrible.

HAHAHA, their Star Trek ad read made listening to non-premium so worth it. I'm dying.

"Set phasers to fun!"

also yes i was one of those who was utterly flabbergasted and annoyed that brad got destiny 1 in the 2014 goty top ten. it did not deserve that spot. destiny 1, especially vanilla, is the very definition of a 3 out of 5. game with good core mechanics but a ton of design flaws.

oh and the pyramidion is fucking awesome

i'm not saying you played it wrong, there's no "wrong way" of playing a game i'm not that guy, but you missed out on something special for sure that cannot be recreated

another example : BoTW was an incredible experience and it's one of the best game i've ever played, but that's partially because all my friends and I played during launch week and spent a lot of time just sharing infos and discoveries, and reading and talking with other people who were also discovering things about the game.

I know Destiny isn't exactly THAT type of game, but I still feel like i'm being robbed of a little bit of magic...

Hopefully you give the raid a shot in D2. There will be a lot of groups available in the OT (or through guided games). If you like the strikes, you'll love the raid (assuming they don't screw it up).

Women don't get horny or poop. It's just science folks.

I mean, what makes boys clubs is that dissonance and doing sexist jokes. Not jokes about sex in general.

I am in a GB clan so we'll see how it goes. I will probably try and get involved in the raid. It just seemed so distant a goal in vanilla Destiny, but it seems much more achievable to get there in this one so I appreciate Bungie's efforts with that.

One thing that is kind of irksome though is not being able to communicate with your clan without individually messaging them? So you can't just go - anyone fancy teaming up? - in game...
