PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

I tried the Mini-14 again and yeah, the random duo partner I had last night had to have been using the recoil macro. Without a scope, crouched holding breath, a single shot will still not recover from the recoil.

Got to use the mini 14 once, it's already one of if not my favorite gun. Down people so fast and the rapid fire is so damn manageable.
*in top 10 with 3 kills, guy i just killed has a scar and kar to replace my m16 and ak* oh hell yes

*hears a guy trying to creep up behind me around a corner* haha, i have you my friend

*scar is in single fire, i guess the guy i killed didn't switch it to auto or the patch doesn't actually work that way* WELP
You're in the top 10 and want to switch the ak out? What?

I much prefer the SCAR's recoil pattern to the AK's, which kicks too much for my liking.

Voicechat is an adventure in Battlegrounds. Since I'm ranked down at like 60,000 in FPP an play in the evening, maybe 90% of the players I get matched with are Chinese. Some speak a bit of English, some speak no English. I got matched with a woman who spoke clearly but with a strong accent. I'm not really mad about it because most of the Chinese players are nice. Someone was like "no problem you are great" when I failed and we lost the game. In contrast, it's been exclusively American accents when I run into assholes who run their mouths about "faggot bitches" or are Sandy Hook truthers or whatever.

I got matched with someone named "gauuuuu" who said nothing but "GAU GAU GAU" before we jumped out of the plane, and then "gauuuuu :(" when they sprinted up behind me and I shot them by accident. Then I revived them an gave them first aid kits and they're all "THANK YOU" and then "GOOD BYE" later.

Today was something entirely new to me though. My Chinese duo partner barely spoke any English, and I couldn't understand him. Like 20 minutes into the match, an electronic female voice suddenly goes "WOULD YOU LIKE A DRINK". And later, "HOUSES 150 ARE OCCUPIED". I guess it makes sense but I hadn't run into people with a synthesizer before, huh.

Gah, I had some pretty good rounds but then it went to shit when it turned into another streak of "the game wants to spawn an entire town full of level 1 backpacks, P92s (if that), and handgun suppressors, except for the one house that the other guy landed on."

Also a couple times when I was really feeling what I assume was desync, where I'd get instantly killed through a level 2 helmet from full health with a single SMG burst, where I'd be dead while the first shot was still ringing out.

Of all the things my son got from me, it certainly wasn't his shooting ability...i'm crap.

He went on a killing spree at the end there.

This is the same thing I've seen other people do that I can't replicate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaXZtpjgq9Q&feature=youtu.be&t=205

Do you have a compensator or silencer? Or are you dragging down slightly immediately after each shot? If I do that, even if I'm crouched holding my breath, the crosshair won't go back to its previous location. Instead, it's kicked to a different spot.

Son's not a member here, but i've dropped him a msg, i'll post his reply later on.

Afaik, he does pull down on the mouse to counter the recoil tho.

Thinking about picking up this game after watching a few Giant Bomb videos, but I have to ask--is it fun (or rather, reasonable) to play solo or is it one of those things that only really shines with friends?

The adjustments you have to make with the mini14 are tiny, but you still gotta move it a bit. The most important part is getting the timing down for when the recoil is reset.

The forced post-processing really hurts my eyes. Previously I could play all day without problems but yesterday I could only do two-three games and I had a headache :(

Reply from my son regarding that vid...

"my scar has a compensator, but mini 14 doesnt. all just pulling the mouse down at the right rate to keep it on target".

Usually he just tells me "Mad skills" when i ask him how he does it!

Dunno, used the mini 14 for real last night and got myself a squad chicken dinner with it and that this is just a beast for spamming singleshots. That weapon doesnt need any attachements to be a murder machine.

Dropped into Rozhok got a mini-14 in the first house, dropped 2 enemies outside (and some friendly fire), got a 4x off one of them, dropped 3 more across the street (I was on the north end) by either just center mass spamming or headshots when they stopped.

Ended up with a m249 but those 100 rounds where all the 5.56 we had to share among 4 squad members so had to stick to the mini-14 the whole round to conserve ammo and that thing is just super accurate and very spammable.

Edit: That video is exactly how it works yeah, just pull down a little to compensate have to do that for all weapons but the mini-14 is super easy to compensate for (thats the reason the m16 was good before too easy to compensate for the recoil)

This is also one of the reasons why this game will be pretty awkward with controllers because they cannot really do recoil compensation in this way

Thanks for the tips. I can see pulling down with the red dot sight, but with the 4x sight my teammate that one game really looked like the sight would instantly bounce back to its original position, not human-looking at all. He was also repeatedly emphasizing that it had "zero" (not some, zero) recoil.

It really is obnoxious. I wish they'd forced shadows instead of post-processing.

I'm one step closer to beating the game at least, though I suppose I have to get a fog win eventually as well.

Solo TPP
Duo TPP, both survived
Solo FPP
Squad FPP, all survived

(The game stats don't show my duo TPP win and they do show a squad TPP win I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure the above is accurate.)

Here's the duo TPP win I just got:
chickenwlj2j.png

I had a Chinese guy (like the other 10 or so games tonight) on the NA server who only spoke a few words of English like "SE" or "careful", but he was a really good shot with an SKS even at my super low rank. Hopefully he wasn't using macros or something. :p Some people took 2 crates before we could get to them in the middle of nowhere, except they weirdly left a Groza in one of them. There was no ammo but I already had ammo.

We then stalked them to the compound where we saw them drive in the distance, killed both, got a couple of 4x/8x scopes, and both kept following the circle with SCAR/SKS and Groza/SKS. I got 3 kills so I at least helped a little bit, including two rapidfire midrange ones with the Groza when I had maybe 15% HP. That was the scariest part, when I almost died running in from the blue and immediately saw another team. I killed them before healing, cancelling the first aid kit.

The final circle was excellent since we were near a hill that the circle basically centered on, so everyone else had to push from the blue and we couldn't really be flanked.

They did force shadows? All shadow settings should render shadows at the same distance now.

I would interpret "zero recoil" as "it has really low recoil" because thats how it feels compared to say an SKS. And I used it with an 4x like that. Shooting 2-4 shots in rapid fashion.

Also remember that spectate view has a lot of delays and ping compensation so it will look very strange.

I mean they're forcing shadows and post-processing, I believe? Not just shadows. That's what the other person was complaining about with the headache-inducing filter or blur or whatever they use.

The lighting is also slightly different, I'm pretty sure. There's a weird thing indoors where a room can look dark, but if you look at a table in the middle, that part of the room will temporarily light up brightly.

Hmm i did notice they forced blurring of the inventory because it without blur it made it easier to see through the fog, didn't notice anything in the game but maybe that did change (running post-processing at very low)

anybody who brings up the inventory when their buildings don't load to kick start the rendering do not turn off the new option to turn off the rendered man in the inventory. learnt this last night lol. should have realised but my entire map was a marshmallow for at least 3 minutes

Thanks for the info.

My next mouse will be either Deathadder Elite or Logitech G402. Not sure what nDPI they're at, but I've heard their sensor is top class.

Well.. not really. Elite has a modified 3360/3366 but it has very high button latency, g402 has the same sensor as the g100s but with a gyroscope to help it with malfunction speed. We finally got a perfect sensor, there's no reason to buy a mouse without the 3360 in it.
If you love deathadder's shape, look for a g403.. if you want to save some bucks, nixeus revel or dream machine dm 1 both have the 3360 sensor and the sensei shape.

Crouching and holding breath doesn't increase recoil recovery, it only reduces recoil gain, meaning you won't have to pull back as far.

I've been struggling with this too; coming from CS:GO you didn't really need to pull down or compensate recoil if you were tapping. But here I feel like the kick is so unpredictable between taps if you don't micro adjust between the shots.

Anyone got the Nvidia highlights options greyed out after the patch? I have a GTX1070 and Shadowplay Instant Replay enabled, and this option was available and working fine 100% of the time before the patch. Now it's greyed out.

Also anyone knows the real DPI for the Mars Gaming MM2?

My Nvidia Highlights completely broke at some point and I had to reinstall Geforce Experience to fix it.

The difference here is that when you ADS is that the shot will hit where you are aiming and not bloom randomly like in CS. So you can correct visually while shooting, while in CS you correct by memorising the recoil pattern aiming under the target.

Hey genius, i'll recommend you something right now. Don't fucking buy a fucking EA game if you can't handle patches breaking stuff. It isn't hard.

Yikes. Got a friend that works for Bluehole or is internet tough guy just what you do in your free time

Maybe buy a quick microtransaction to make you feel better.

Hilarious how I called this earlier in the thread. Patch introduces a bunch of new bugs and actually worsens performance for a good chunk of people but defense force still strong.

What is see that is going strong is pathetic complaints about common EA occurrences.

Do feel free to link to the magical Early Access game you know that never broke anything with patches. I'm still waiting to see that miraculous game.

Game also runs better now, but sure kid, keep on making shit up, it's all you can do. They could patch every fucking bug in the game and you'd still complain.

You can't really judge anything from spectator cam in this game. The tickrate is unbelievably low, has to be something like 5 hz or something else is going on to make it useless. Just watch them try to shoot a moving target, it will look like they are not even close to hitting any shots when they get a kill.

People's opinions will vary but I've only played solo so far and I can't put the game down. I might give squads or duos a look at some point but I like being able to lone wolf it in solo. If I played with others I'd feel I'd have to use a mic because I don't want to play at a disadvantage, I'd have to be more flexible in my playing style (teammate(s) might want to be more aggressive or land in high traffic areas for instance), and I'd have to use discord, etc. to find teammates because again I wouldn't want to be at a disadvantage with randoms. I like being able to loot where I want and play the way I want. I also think it's more thrilling and satisfying to win with 1/100 odds (all else being equal) than 1/50 or 1/25.

My experience with it is that this game didn't really get me addicted until I started playing with friends. Once I started getting better after hours of playing with my friends, I got into solo mode. This game does have a steep learning curve and getting killed only having to repeat the process again (sit in lobby for 1 minute, drop to area from plane, loot, get shot, repeat) can be mentally draining. Even now, after playing for 200 hrs I can't play no more than a game or two on solo before I have to take a break. However, time flies by when you're playing with other people.

LOL I accidently started a squad match on my own :p Was #2 squad ;) Better than winning a chicken dinner.

Was yelling to mates at the office here, "Those fuckers are playing together" only to realize 5 minutes later "wtf, people are getting knocked, is this a squad game?!@#%R!$#"

i5 6600K @ 4.5 Ghz + GTX 1070 and I need to keep most things on low to maintain 60 FPS. Share your secrets plz.

Gotcha, internet tough guy it is. Maybe it's time to step away from the keyboard for a few hours and let the nerd rage cool down a notch or three.

They could patch every fucking bug in the game and you'd still complain.

Doubt they're capable, I'd settle for the big ones.

This game is the best online gaming experience I've had since COD 4 and that's huge to me.

Thank you Bluehole for reigniting the old fire.

I'm playing solo most of the time, taking my time and being smart. Some call it boring but it's thrilling to me. Grew tired of mindless shooters

I was addicted to this game since its release, have over 500 hours in it, but once first person mode came out, I sort of fell out with it. All my friends play first person now, and have avoided third person altogether. I tried playing some first person with them, but it just didn't click with me. Has anyone else experienced this at all? Having played so much third person, I just want to continue with it; however, playing it alone isn't fun.

Completely the opposite here. Playing third person I was just frustrated at how the encounters were spent non-stop camera-peeking from a safe position. It killed the immersion doing so and it made every encounter a fucking chore.
When you spot a guy in TPP you don't just spot him, you got to take into account the giant invisible 360-degree swivel-cam he has hovering above his head as well. It's stupid.

First person is what made this fun game into something amazing.

It's crazy when you think about it, the game is just a bunch of bought assets glued together and not particularly well either, with countless bugs and issues and yet we all pump hours into it every day. It just has something about it that's so addictive. I do wish it was made better though, when I was playing Destiny 2 beta I kept thinking "I really wish PUBG ran this smooth and felt this responsive". Obviously Bluehole isn't Bungie so you can't expect quite that level, but I hope they improve the feel of FPP at some point as it is off compared to any of the other big shooters on the market. It definitely didn't help that they forced PP on this patch which fucked my FPS.
