Battlefield 1 |OT2| "All Quiet on the GAF Front"

Lol. Jackfrags made a video about how unfun some of the weapon assignments are.

https://youtu.be/57f1OxhkSl8

He is not amused.

Nobody can be seriously amused by these.

This is not fun, not what I wanna do with my time in BF1.

I want the new guns, but I'd rather get them some natural way of just regular play than going out of my way to do completely dumb stuff for hours upon hours. Like I still have extra warbonds I seemlingly can't spend (I assume for some of the more ridicolous class specific weapons I still haven't unlocked), they can keep giving me those when I level up, when I complete a match etc. and I can spend those on the new weapons, like in Rainbow Six: Siege with the new operators. Or scrap! Earn scrap each match, exchange for bonds or weapons.

ANYTHING BUT THIS!

Totally agree. Should have made the support class for example "achieve X points of damage against aircraft". Otherwise I'm not playing the game, I'm participating in sorting myself out at the expense my team.

Get 15 kills with the tripwire HE bomb. The one that doesn't do enough damage to kill a single person. I heard they use the challenges to get people to use underused weapons\gadgets. I wonder if there's a better way to do it???? Maybe not make them agonizingly useless. I'm not a game dev though so what do I know. Look at K bullets. They tell us the purpose of K bullets is to balance out the repair capabilities so you can keep up harassing tanks and yet the challenge isn't "Interrupt 10 repairs with K bullets" it's "Kill 10 vehicles with K bullets that do two damage". No wonder your players think K bullets are useless when you're encouraging them with medals and challenges to use them in a way they aren't designed to work.

Every 15 K bullets that hit a tank gives you a free battlepack!

Every 10 kills with a shitty underused gun earns you a battlepack!

Everyone loves battlepacks right?

Which LMG is the best one to take down planes according to you guys ?

MG15 Suppressive. Has the highest velocity (less leading) and a 200 drum. Fire in short since its overheats after ~35 bullets. If you need help, get someone to be on an AA so they can dmg the plane to help you out. A random blueberry was doing that for me. Still got one more plane to destroy T_T

It's like if they had a challenge for the sniper be "Kill 20 enemies from < 50M away". Oh wait we wouldn't do that because the point of a sniper is to kill enemies from far away so maybe we should design our challenges to encourage intended use and illustrate the benefit of the weapons and gadgets we've designed.

Let's practice:
What do the players use tripwire bombs for since we designed them to not kill people in one hit? They use them as a warning that they are being sneaked upon while sniping. "Challenge: Kill 10 enemies after they have been damaged by a tripwire bomb". Done.

Another practice one:
What do players use LMGs for since we designed them to shoot a lot of bullets with less damage but great accuracy with a bipod? They use them to pin down a large number of enemies while being able to accurately shoot all of them when the bipod is deploy.
"Challenge: Destroy 2 aircraft with an LMG". Wrong. I highly doubt there's "destroys aircraft" bullet point next to "supplies teammates" in the Support Class's design document.

Shit feels like its designed to make players grind on stupid challenges to extend the life of the game instead of just letting people try out the weapons and have fun with them.

I agree, some of them are just horrible and I probably won't do. I don't understand the Autoloading 8 marksman variant for example. I use the extended all the time, but who would ever use the marksman version. It's so painful that I don't even want to slog through 50 kills with it, I will cause its only some kills, but fuck me. I hope some of these horrible weapons can get a new lease on life with the CTE weapon balance, because shit like that is just trash and should never be used.

Yeah, who would use such trash guns
It's only the fastest killing medic weapon bar none under ~45 meters
git gud etc

The alwaysreloading markman is one of the best guns in the game imo. You do have to plan your engagements out more than with some guns but it dominates 1v1 encounters pretty savagely. It's the skill cannon of BF1. Kill someone, dip into cover, reload. Repeat.

Being very comfortable with your pistol is pretty important when using it as well since you'll always need to be reloading lol.

^^^ truth
Use the 1903 as a finisher or backup pistol or the Auto Revolver to two shot everything under 10m.
Or use the new Nagant revolver for reload adventures

Eh. The RSC 1917 is better. 2 shots to kill compared to 3 shots for the Autoloading. Yes the Autoloading has a higher rate of fire but that just burns through ammo more quickly with only 5 ammo magazine. The RSC is all about lining up your shots and requires more skill to do.

With the RSC you got potential to get 3 kills with a single magazine while the Autoloading can only get 1 kill with a single magazine. Assuming all the shots are body shots.

Ugh, now I need to give this weapon another chance. I use the extended a ton and love it, but I was not hitting anything with hip fire, and the ADS zoom was horrible for close to mid. I guess I'll drop the default zoom level for this gun and see what happens.

If you miss with the RSC or are in 3 shot range it's absolutely atrocious though. You only need to shoot 60% within its 3 hit kill range to basically get a guaranteed kill with the alwaysreloading. Because of the firing rate you're not punished as heavily when you miss a shot. With a missed shot the 8 .35 has a theoretical TTK of 500ms, while the RSC is at 716ms in the same scenario.

edit: I'm in love with the Obrez pistol. It can fail you pretty spectacularly sometimes but it's really fun to use and it's so satisfying when you get a one shot kill headshot or one shot kill body shot up close.

Hey guys, what is the best way of getting into a populated game of Operations? I usually click on a random Operation, wait 3 mins for it to load up, only to find out that I'm on an empty server! Happens like 90% of the time

Funny you say that, I wanted to post something similar. I bought the game 4 weeks ago and I mostly use the "join any Operation" option and I get into populated servers so I don't have the same issue as you (on XB btw...) but last night I wanted to try Devil's Anvil since I never played it before and after a long wait time, the game put me in a server where we were 2 on 1. Is everybody mostly playing the DLC and the older maps are empty?

Maybe the Server Browser would be the solution?

What system, time of day and type of operations?

Albion is ridiculous if you spawn as the Germans.

Also, fuck all those challenges. Let me spend my warbonds DICE instead of doing stupid shit

Why didn't you guys tell me that the Selbstlader 1906 is so good?

Toggle lock is the sexiest action.

The 1906 is fun as hell but the alwaysreloading is still my baby. The guaranteed 3 shot isn't worth the slower firing rate imo. The general liu would be one of my favs if it had a marksman or sniper variant but I don't do iron sights. 6 bullets vs 5 mmm.

The main problem with the Liu (for me)is that it competes mostly against the 1906, but the benefits (+1 bullet, no toggle lock animation) are just not really worth it when you can literally magdump out to 90-100 meters with the 1906 and you can't really do that with the Liu (or at least not as reliably).
Don't think anything will replace the Model 8 for me though.

By the way, really enjoying the Remington 1900. video link (on Twitter, sorry)

So I've finished part 1 of the specialisations but can't see part 2. Anyone else have the same problem?
They didn't show as completed in the menus after they'd popped in game. They showed up the next time I started.

These are really dumb. Feels like the devs have thrown far too many bad ideas into this.

Conquest mode is so unsatisfying in BF1. There's no flow and people just run aimlessly everywhere. I know this is heresy, but I sometimes think the maps are too big for conquest. In my view, the maps should be a lot more focused. Thank goodness for frontlines and operations modes.

I guess it's a trade off between lots of people running around aimlessly or 60 people all jammed into the same 2 hallways for 30 straight minutes.

It's sooooooooooooooooooooooooo fun to shoot your LMG at Airplanes.

I hope that the people who designed these weapon assigments step on a Lego.

I miss the bigger bases but people arent rubbish aimlessly

Its like a bunch of ants that all ambush together and its glorious

Youd never have that sense of craziness in bf4

I think it's the opposite issue causing that problem; everybody moves way too fast and effortlessly, making people feel the need to run everywhere aimlessly. It's as if these WW1 soldiers had exosuits, making big maps feel like tiny ones.

The player movement speed in this doesn't feel much different to me than bf4. The maps are definitely smaller in this though.

So how's the new dlc? couldn't find the time to play few rounds.
I am liking it so far, maps have been enjoyable.
i don't really hate maps in general so take that with some salt
. I like all of the new weapons I have unlocked so far, but it's only half of the list. Unlocking them is a pain. My only complaint is I wish there was a German vs Russian operation, since I only play operations really. Speaking of operations, for Red Tide, I feel it's unbalanced for attackers.

Music is pretty epic imo as well.

Nah, players move extremely fast in BF1. BF4 had maps like Silk Road and Golmund Railway that felt massive because you moved really slowly as infantry to get to the action, needing vehicles to get anywhere...but those maps are dwarfed by BF1 maps.

This is from Reddit:

Silk Road vs Sinai

Maps are bigger in BF1, even DICE said so. But to compensate and get rid of the "dead time" of walking across objectives in past BF's (a common complaint of newcomers from games like CoD), they made everyone move as fast as cars.

From what I understand BF1 has a lower base movement speed than BF4 but a higher sprint modifier with the end result being BF4 still being a tiny bit faster full sprint. This is all from memory though, I read it on Symthic a month or so ago. I can try looking for the post that had the data if anyone is really interested in it. I'll put a link in here if I find it.

edit: Here we go

BF1 Sprint speed = 3.4 * 1.775 = 6.035 m/s

BF4 Sprint speed = 4.0 * 1.625 = 6.5 m/s * 1.1 Sprint boost = 7.15m/s

Not really sure what to think then at this point.

Looking at the map to Sinai really makes me wish that G flag was at least a bit closer to the rest. That map is great but that flag has never really made sense to me. The picture I think is from the beta and the E flag in the picture eventually became the G flag. I think they slightly changed the layout too.

Interesting thread. So it's not that players in BF1 have a faster top speed, but rather everything else their character does accelerates faster.

I wish they'd slow down the game a bit. A lot of design elements of maps (including cover) seem wasted by players just running past them. I noticed the same issue with DICE's Battlefront, where the jetpack made most of the map design seem superfluous, since players could just jump above most of it.

Sinai is a pretty huge compared to prior maps because of the G flag though. And traversing to and from that flag is often a case of a tank, bike, armored car or horse. Empire's Edge is another expansive locale.

That said, I find most in the game to be rather smallish than ones before. Or maybe I am misremembering. Bad Company 2 maps felt larger than these.

Edit: Damaged bomber raced across the E flag on Ballroom Blitz and I was successfully able to take it out. One down, one more to go! -_-

Wow, very interesting... why couldn't they just give us more transport options!!

Park a bunch of bicycles around buildings and shit.

Also, Battlefield's details are seriously impressive
