So which parts of America insert an R into the pronunciation of Sauce? This is a weird one I hadn't heard of before.

Edit: I can see it with Australian accents actually. That makes some sense.

Also this thread reminded me that Elf on the Shelf exists. Hadn't heard of that in years. Are we sure this meme isn't just their marketing department?

"Hey what kind of source is on your pizza?"

Loss and sauce seem much closer than sauce and source.

For me, source rhymes with horse, or morse, or course. Loss rhymes with boss, hoss, or toss. Sauce, for me, is much closer to boss, hoss, or toss than horse, morse, or course.

I could see with like a very, very thick over enunciated New York accent maybe.

It's a relatively recent children's tradition around Christmas. Similar to the age old concept that Santa Clause is always watching you and keeping a ledger of your good deeds and bad, the Elf on the Shelf is -- as far as I know -- basically an agent of Santa's, who stays in your house and tracks your movements, thoughts, ambitions, desires, etc. The elf stealthily moves around to various positions of the house, especially around Christmas time, to keep would be nare-do-well children vigilant.

That is all to say, the thread of perpetual torment and hell fire was not enough to keep children behaved, so Santa intervened, as it's more carrot than stick, but then that wouldn't suffice for today's modern day hellians, and so Hallmark or whoever invented the Elf on the Shelf as a way to sell $12 elf figurines, and also to help mommy and daddy sneak away to smoke J's in the bathroom while the kids stay behaved in their bedroom.
