Switched to android from iOS, immediately miss imessage :(

Switched to an s8+ after not being impressed by the newest Apple stuff, so figured why not try out android for a year.

But as much as I've enjoyed my short time with this phone, the lack of imessage is a complete killer.

Because there is no way I'm convincing my entire immediate and extended family to download a separate app just to send me funny gifs and videos.

They love me but not that much.

How did you other long term iPhone people adapt?

2 years ago, i "upgraded" from a 6+ to an S6 Edge cause it was so pretty. I went in and returned it that same day, and got hit with the restocking fee.

Good lesson for me.

iMessage has plenty of features WhatsApp doesn't and it's less of an eyesore to boot.
Yeah but WhatsApp means whatever shitty phone brands people are inexplicably loyal to cab all use the same app. Apple and a android.

Don't get the eyesore comment either. I think it's fine.

What features?

Yeah, I don't use WhatsApp and I only know like 2 people who do. All my messaging is via LINE, Facebook, Hangouts, or Discord. I only get SMS messages from work, my parents, and 2-Step notifiers.

OP, did you disable iMessage before switching phones? I know that used to be an issue where messages would disappear into the ether if you didn't.

iMessage is way more of an eye sore after they started adding all this garbage to it like gigantic toolbars of apps, tons of buttons everywhere, message effects, stickers, etc.

WhatsApp looks like a messaging app.

It amazes me that people actually use iMessage

Why is that? iMessage allows me to send higher quality video to others. I've sent videos to android users that have to go through mms and it looks like balls. I love iMessage, especially since it works if you have no cell service.

Whatsapp is better in every way so no. Texts getting cuaght in limbo between SMS and iMessage was always really annoying when I had an iPhone

Pretty easy to see people who have never touched an iPhone in here. The hell is this "people actually use imessage" crap?

iMessage has stickers, 1st and 3rd party plugins (including p2p payments soon), better live previews (including videos), crazy animation options for sent messages, images/gifs with an alpha layer get posted clean on the chat against the background, while in whatsapp it's boxed and converts the alpha layer to black, iMessage has a native Mac and iPad client while Whatsapp has a web client that relies back and forth on connectivity to the phone.

Similarly, I can also list some Whatsapp features that are not available in iMessage, especially for group chat management. But yeah, Whatsapp has a ways to go.

Definitely agree that accessible to all phones is better than a exclusive app. Would love that Apple would bring iMessage over to Android but that ship has sailed.

Facebook chat and Whatsapp. Get everyone to switch.

People saying nobody in US uses Whatsapp, but many people I knew in Seattle used it. Maybe it was just my circle.
