Reggie on Switch stock: We dramatically overdelivered. And yet, demand outpaces supply

But, Fils-Aime promises, Nintendo is actually listening, and attempting to do right by you whether or not it means placing an NES Classic squarely into your hands, pre-loaded with all of your personal favorites.

"As we look at the overall business, we're constantly looking to do the right thing for the consumer," Fils-Aime said. He brought up the Switch, Nintendo's newest console, as an example. The company made 2 million units available at launch, despite, Fils-Aime said, analyst recommendations that demand would be much lower.

"We actually sold through almost 2.8 million units, so we dramatically over delivered. And yet, demand outpaces supply," he said. "So what do some of the consumers on Reddit say? 'Gosh, Nintendo, if you would've made more you would've sold more.' Well, we did make more! And certainly we're on a pace to supply in the current fiscal year 10 million units."

In the end, Fils-Aime believes Nintendo is delivering on all the expectations fans have, albeit not at the rate in which they might prefer it to happen.

"I think if you were to go back and look at some of these comments, you would actually see that the issues have been resolved, but it's happening at a pace that is later than maybe where the commenters would like the resolution to be," he said.

"But it happens. And the solution is there."

I don't think that word means what you think it means, Reggie.

It's good that more units are coming, but acting bewildered and annoyed at people who can't buy your product and want to is a little tasteless.

God I immediately read the thread title in Reggie's voice without even trying lol

Please hurry up with virtual console support

I really can't blame them for not having enough stock in this instance, I mean, look at how GAF and most other places thought it was going to sell in January. It's starting to calm down in America which is nice, of course I say that, but it's about to ramp back up come the holidays lol.

Sales are really good for Switch.

But Pokemon Switch hasnt even released and that will literally skyrocket the Switch too amazing levels.

Same goes for Animal Crossing Switch and Smash Switch. And those are prolly 2018 or 2019 games.

I love my Switch. Just want more themes and customization stuff.

He's saying they over-delivered on the 2 million that was promised. Nintendo said they'd ship 2 million, they shipped 2.8 million.

Dang I didn't know you could do that. Next time we have a meeting about not satisfying patient expectations at work I'll just inform them that we in fact overperformed and overdelivered,

This is fairly typical Reggie isn't it. The dude has been a A-grade bullshit artist ever since he came to Nintendo. Part of the job I guess.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Sucks for people who cant find one. Apparently thousands of people line up in Japan just for a chance to buy a Switch.

I don't get the sarcastic or cynical replies. There's nothing Reggie says in this interview (or most, honestly) that seems unreasonable. Dude gets far more hate than he deserves.

I feel like people are really reading way too much into this in an attempt to find some reason to throw shade. Like, the "overdelivered" line is directly referencing the low analyst expectations and Nintendo's original plan to ship only 2 million units. They ended up shipping almost a million more than expected and the demand is still much higher than anticipated, so stock is still low. It doesn't really seem like an outrageous comment to me.

Will drop pants for Sony.

I did and I didn’t even win a chance to buy one but my friend who was in front of me did. I did end up buying one by walking into a department store and asking if they had one.
