NHL Off-Season 2017 |OT| We’ve Been Here Since October

The whole Calgary story is disgusting. The Flames and NHL pretending as if they are doing the city a favour is laughable.

It’s the kind of shit I’d expect from some weird parody of sports ownership, not actually real.

Funny how that fuckface Burke's bullshit moral high ground schtick vanished the moment ultra-rich people were asked to pay for their own toys

Burke’s “honour” really only goes as far as the exits of the Saddledome.

What story? :O

Ownership is looking for a handout from Calgary to build a new stadium. The city actually was willing to pay about a third, but this still wasn't enough for ownership. Since they aren't getting their way, they're trying to spurn it into an election issue since the mayoral election is this year. Bettman showed up to a press conference to give vauge threats about moving the team, threats that literally no one takes seriously.

I'm glad the city is not caving in, I've never been a fan of tax payer money not being used for tax payer benefit. Things like the sale of our baseball stadium here in Toronto to a media company for like a fraction of what tax payers paid or the sale of what could have been a vital highway to a private consortium still sting.

I should be in Dallas at least the week of October 16th, and was thinking to check out a Stars game.

This game gave me second thoughts about that

That garbage is what the Chargers tried to pull on the city of San Diego but we didn't accept none of that bullshit, thankfully. Now they're stuck without a proper place because LA doesn't give a fuck about them.

What game did you attend? Avs vs Stars?

I wish more cities would tell teams to fuck off. Such a waste of money.

Not bitter, just unsweetened
the best part is they want the city to pay for it all and then afterwards the flames will own the arena but pay no taxes lol

like dafuq? at least bring a serious proposal to the table

It's a fucking scam. Owners will save money where they can, Bettman and the NHL answer to the owners. Plus there's a precedent set here, so good for the city to challenge it.

And if it means Calgary moves to Seattle and Flames fans are left without a team, well I guess that's just the price of justice! Stick it to em, Calgary!

The newest bullshit is a $250 million "contribution" for raising property value around the cities proposed site, which they are developing with or without an arena, but the flames ownership has the gall to say it's a positive they are bringing to the table. The whole thing is disgusting, I don't even live in Canada and I would tell these fuckers to get bent too, king saying "were going to refer to Bettmans expertise is laughable. This whole thing is posturing on the election in a couple months so whatever, it's more to get the voters attention and maybe shift the vote to a more favorable candidate, good luck!

And RE: Burkie, I mean that's his damn job, if he said anything contrary he wouldn't have his job. They are right, an arena is probably needed in the next 5 years or so, currently it's better than where the NHL and Bettmans expertise set the islanders up at, cars in the lower bowl and seats with literal no views ¯_(ツ)_/¯ this league desperately needs new management, Bettman is the longest running commish by a lot now, wish they'd move on, but his incremental "growth" is enough to keep his position planted. I'm sure someone twenty years his senior could muster a much better effort.

Question about NHL 18, did EA add in the ability to play Franchise Mode online with friends or is that still just couch co-op?

fake or quickly unfollowed?

Molson doing a Teddy Cruz.

Duchene for Galchenyuk seems like a largely equitable deal. Bit of a fleecing for the Habs, but only because of the drama.

I’ll take it now. I know it’s just preseason but Galchenyuk has looked horrible, even worse than he did when he came back from his knee injury

I could see les habs doing this

I think it would be Juulsen instead. But he’s injured for 6 weeks

I’d honestly just give Avalanche one of our two second round picks for this season’s draft maybe a prospect like De La Rose or Fucale along with Galchenyuk and maybe Avalanche puts in a Prospect too.

If the NHL rules against the Leafs and Blackhawks, then Lupul becomes one of the most impactful players of the season by default, as he would have forced a change in how league policies are practiced.

Galchenyuk - dud
Fucale - bust
2nd

...for Duchene?

Oh and you want a prospect too.

This won't get done unless you get serious, Creeper.

No way it happens, Godfather has the league wrapped around his finger.

I can't tell if it changes anything roster-wise, though, for either team. Which would neuter its impact.

I think the Leafs are cap compliant with Lupul on the AR because of Horton. It might only guarantee that Fehr and Marincin don't make the team.

And if Hossa is deemed fit to play, I am sure Chicago can work out a friendly arrangement with one of the cap-floor teams to take his cap hit.

This guys got the right idea
A little fire from Soderberg looks more like he's trying to burn the building down than he's trying to not suck ass.

You don't get it man, those are HABS busts and duds. The lower-upper echelon, the worst of the best. It's a privilege to even be considered to be a dumping ground for such rejects.
