Tales of(when will we get a new mothership game?)

Tales of Festival came and went, nothing. Toyko Game show is almost over, nothing. Are we really going to have to wait until the next Tales of Festival to hear anything?

I really was hoping they would throw us a remaster while we wait. Be a perfect time to remaster Vesperia.

Thoughts?

First they need to upgrade their engine or move to Unreal Engine 4, Berseria was so ugly with empty and boring zones.

We are supposed to get a Tales games for Switch this FY right? Likely a port if its releasing before April.

I hope its TOV with the PS3 contents plus more.

It wasn't that bad. And they are easier to release with an already made engine. But the question about remaster still stands. Those really aren't hard to do.

They are supposed to release a Tales on Switch by the end of this fiscal year (31 march 2018) and giving Berseria is just a year old I guess it's gonna be a remaster, if it's not delayed it should be announced at jump festa in december or before.

Where are these switch rumors coming from?

Look, we've had the same game more or less since Tales of Xillia. The engine needs to go if we ever hope for the series to take steps forward.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Vesperia R for Switch/PS4/PC this fiscal year.
Preparing us for a Vesperia successor.

Please be 2019. I don't want an undercooked game with the same shitty fields again. Berseria was a return to form, so keep the team that crafted that game, throw your propietary engine down the toilet and use a decent one like UE4.

I will take a Vesperia remaster next year. Thank you.

I think it is a good thing that they seem to take their time with the next big flagship title. A little bit more time, a bigger budget and completely moving to current gen will do the game good. The series might even reach its Vesperia/Symphonia/Abyss form again.

It's most likely Berseria, unless they already said it is not?

Just my wishful thinking since i really want to play TOV with the PS3 contents lol. I also just finished TOB this year so......

they got rid of Baba and TOB is the result. I believe the next main line tales will be back to form soon enough.

Or we get Zestiria...
Not that I disliked that game, but it wasn't a great tales game by any stretch of the imagination

Didn't Berseria just come out? Give 'em some time :p
Berseria is more than a year old, and the recent Tales game typically have been announced more than a year before release. Add to that the fact that they tend to come out in 1.5-2.5 years from one another, and you would expect an official reveal for the next game to happen soonish.

Isn't it like the best ranked Tales of? I have no reason why its not been remastered yet. Its not because of Microsoft is it?

How about they just take their time with the next one and upgrade the engine? I love Berseria, but it's time to step it up.

It came out over a year ago in Japan. Usually, they would of announced the next Tales game by now.

However, if they are switching engines and implementing other toolset changes for current gen console development, then it would make sense if they hold off for a bit.

A lot of vesperia port hopes all of a sudden, I'd be all for it but is there any reason to expect it as opposed to switch just getting lobbed a late port of the xillia duo, zesty-whatever or bersaria?

Berseria hasn't been out that long in the west.

I really hope the next installment builds on what made Berseria great. A good, more mature, story and some actual human drama.

They need to start using a different engine. Berseria was awesome but it looked like a 60fps PS3 game.

I'm guessing they will announce the next installment E3 2018 with a 2019 release.

The Switch game is probably just a Berseria port.

Series hasn’t released mainline games on a consistent yearly schedule in years. Two year gaps are common now.

Sometimes they announce stuff in December, wait for that.

Get a CFW PS3 and play it.

Well, i do believe that TOV remaster is coming sooner or later to current gen so i guess i can wait for a while more.

No reason outside of TOV 10 years anniversary being in 2018 (but August and not before April) and its something a lot of fans want.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I would recommend not holding your breath on that one.

I played through the PS3 version on my CFW PS3 a while back, the game holds up remarkably well. The art style lends to it looking quite good even on big screens.

I just couldn't get into Berseria. I enjoyed the characters and story but the game has been the same since Xillia and I just can't be bothered with it any more.

Every non-town location has lost the feeling of being neatly hand crafted. Used to be with games like Abyss and Vesperia that every time you entered a dungeon or other location that it felt totally new, no matter how short it was and was exciting to explore.

Half the locations in the games now are just another mix of cut-paste corridors and rooms with enemies dotted around for you to run into. The between-cave/dungeon areas are fine as a replacement for the overworld, in fairness, but half the games now just feel like this endless boring trudge through identikit brown and grey caves.

The only non town locations that are approaching interesting to me are the major story locations, but even those just feel like chore to me in the games now. Lots of bland military bases and castles with non descript corridors. Feels like the imagination has just... gone. Berseria opens in a grey military-esque castle and the next big dungeon I can think of after that is a big grey military base. Everything else has been grey and brown corridors. There's no wonder to excitement to exploring the world, interesting sights are few and far between. Zestiria was similar - though the "overworld" areas were pretty good, and a few very impressive, they're few and far between the endless bland caves you trudge through. Even the 4 major temples just felt... meh.

It's a shame as even though I can tell Berseria is a much better game than Zestiria I feel like I've played it before. There's a spark that's gone missing from the series for me. I wasn't a huge fan of Graces F but it still gripped me in a way the recent ones haven't.

A switch to UE4 would be cool, and maybe a return to the fixed camera angles and overworld structure, the current one is just stale to me.

Did the series take a big budget cut or something? Maybe it's just in my memory, but Vesperia I recall looking far more vibrant, imaginative and just better throughout than any of the games that followed it.

I don't think a Berseria port to Switch makes sense unless the next Mothership game is also coming to Switch.

It will probably be something else.

Finger crossed for Unreal Engine 4, its really time Namco takes the leap and let one of its growing series in the West join the current generation.
Not only for the graphics but all the technical innovations that would come with it.
Itms okay if it takes longer than the usual dev cycle.

How realistic is it?

Also Vesperia port for the Switch, balee dat.

Considering the last game I beat was Xillia, they can take their friggin time with new games, especially since their most recent is only a year old worldwide.

Xillia 2 I dropped because I just couldn't do it, however Zesty is securely in backlog hell and I have no idea what's going on in that game. Berseria I'm not buying until I'm done with Zesty.

I wouldn't say the hopes are "all of a sudden". Every time I see a Tales discussion, there are tons of posts wishing for a Vesperia remaster. I also want one. PS3 content and Western localization including the original English cast.

Agreed. A lot of Japanese devs are switching to UE4, Tales team should too. Zestiria and Berseria really looked aged.

Vesperia is still a 360 exclusive in the west after all these years. It was really the one game I really wanted to play last generation that I couldn't because I don't want a 360. Definitely could use a remaster.

But they wanted the engine to scale down for PS3. Both games are on that system too. But I think the next Tales of should be true next gen.
