Giant Bomb |OT32| I've been meaning to love a boat

Splatoon 2 is pretty fun and like the first it continues to be the only multiplayer game I seem to consistently do well in so huzzah! Tho I just got it and level 8 so I'm sure ranked will go poorly.

Don't worry, I'm well familiar with the FAR mod existing. Thanks, guys.

Honestly I'm just looking forward to not having weird inconsistent chugging. And also, y'know...replaying the GotY.

Wow MacGruber is pretty bad you guys. I'm never trusting Abby's opinion again.

(obv you can never trust Dan ever)

You should be asking "what's wrong with me" and you are trying to blame it on Abby smh

Never ask Vinny to list top blank anything lmao. Ask him the top 1 bands named Tool and he maybe gets a list together

I get it though, I have tough listing stuff on the spot too.

JANINA FITS WITH GBEAST SO GOOD

I was laughing, it was the first time I audibly laughed in a while.

Y'know, agreed, I wish Janina wasn't moderately famous because she works really well with them.

I don't actually wish that; just sayin'.

Also, she's blinking like she hasn't slept in a week. And based on her twitter, she seems to not have.

I'm farming items in the original Nier and oh my god I don't think the reality sank in when I was doing the start of this undertaking a few weeks ago.

Reloading repeatedly to check the 3 gathering spots for black pearls, which I need 15 of and have 0 of, is maybe hell.

I've been slowly making my way through OG Nier over the summer with the intention of going for the platinum, but everything I see just seems to scream "turn away, this way lies madness". Especially considering the one trophy I caved and 'bought' in Automata was one that required endless grinding similar to what you mentioned.

I wish I had been better about slowly chipping away while playing through the start of it (from May on) but I was foolish and kept it till now (playthrough C) before I started even planning it.

I have a good list of what I need from each area, and milestones of those even. It's just that I should be playing it way more often than like twice a month; even an hour every few nights would be fine.

As long as I finish it by like... end of October I guess I'm fine.

I just want to play Drakengard 1 + 3 at some point before Automata too and this makes it way harder to play this sooner, unless I start 1 alongside finishing this.

Yes I have bad ideas.

Drakengard 3 has an average fps of 10 and no I am not exaggerating. Worse running game I've ever played and there are moments when you kill an enemy and trigger a gory death animation where it runs at under 5 fps for 5-10 seconds.

I'll just let you know.

If you think nier's true end requirements are madness.

Then Drakengard 1 is even more insane.

Which was kinda the point.

Maybe now that Nier is a major SE franchise they will tack a "Nier:" on it and rerelease it on PS4 in a better form.

Hot take: Hot Shots is a superior parody movie to MacGruber.

Anyway, I'm tired of playing active video games and I think I want to take a break from that and start getting into visual novels. Steins Gate seems like a good one going by the discussions I've seen on here. Where would people recommend me start?

Hot take: Hot Shots is a superior parody movie to MacGruber.

Hotter take: Hot Shots! Part Deux is better than both in that specific of parody genre.

Even hotter take: A lot of these parody movies really aren't that good or funny, and are only really memorable when you see them in a specific time-window of your life.

i.e., why I love this exchange and remember it from an otherwise not very good parody movie:

Lauren: Ryan and I were having sex. Hot steamy, sweaty sex. Every part of my body tingled orgasm after orgasm...
Sgt. Orono: Lady, I just asked for your name.

Is there another Lexi porn star that you are keeping for yourself?

Way late on the response. Hell late to the thread but:

Got real worried it was Lexi Belle, not that she's a type I think would go for Dan anyway

Also YEAH JANINA!

EDIT:

Also MacGruber is hilarious if a little long. I love Temple of Doom even though, let's be real, that movie is insanely racist. And Under the Skin ain't all that fucked up, you big ole' babies.

Not today, Satan

I can fuck with that. I will maintain however that Airplane! and Top Secret! are the two of the greatest movies of all time.

There are some funny bits in MacGruber but there's a lot of downtime between the humor. I'm only halfway through though so maybe it ramps up.

Man I looked up Janina's IMDB and I totally forgot she played Amita in Far Cry 4.

Her and Naveen Andrews were easily the best part of that game, each playing completely different assholes.

Edit: Wait, was the DLC expansion she was hinting at Wolfenstein? There's like 4 mini-DLCs for that. I can't think of anything else with story DLC still coming this year. Maybe Resident Evil?

Yeah I've heard some of that. I... don't know if I'll be actually playing all of it myself. Which is ridiculous to say after this, but, y'know,

though honestly Nier's true end requirements are just "play it twice and get all the weapons", right? I'm 100%ing quests (because that's minor at this point) and so I think I got all of them naturally anyway.

Alright, question time. What platforms do you have access to (which is to say do you have a Vita, and even if you have a Vita, would you rather play there or on PC)? What kind of atmosphere/tone are you looking for? What kind of length are you willing to commit to? What is your level of tolerance with regard to anime tropes/character types and the like? Do you have a preference for a modern setting? Do you want something with other gameplay or do you want a pure VN? Are you fine with romance or not (and if so, are you fine playing as a girl and dating men)?

Oh ok I thought you were having trouble with the weapons part.

You do know that 100%ing the sidequests is even more madness right? The farm one takes days of actual time.

1. I am absolutely going to cheat and change the PS3 clock.

2. If you're talking about the pink flowers that's more or less something I'll get on the way to the Plat anyway since I have to get the Luner Tear.

Wow that's a lot. I have PC, PS3 and PS4. Don't mind the atmosphere or anime tropes, I'll go wherever the fiction takes me. Pure VNs are basically glorified text adventures right? I played a lot of text adventures back in the day so pure VNs should be fine too. I've role-played as women in Bioware RPGs so romance isn't a problem.

I'm really confused as to how the anime fit in with the games.

Janina is great. I'm glad Beast is situated to have guests come through so often - feels like everyone kind of fled SF (understandably)

yeah, maybe it’s because I don’t keep up with the new generation of ign and gamespot or whatever, but New York seems like the more interesting place for games media. Polygon, waypoint, gbeast are all rad

Polygon is SF I thought?

edit: nevermind. Looks like a lot of New York

Uhhh well then I think Steins;Gate would be a decent place to start. It's great but it takes a while before it really gets going and your mileage may vary on whether you enjoy the characters (including the protagonist) before that point. I enjoyed them from the start but that's reasonably not true for everyone, particularly as they lean into tropes pretty hard (for a good reason, but still).

Beyond that The House in Fata Morgana's fantastic, though the first part of it might be a little offputting given that it's not particularly clear where it's going at first.

Maybe it's bad to start with the best but you might as well go for them if you're not looking for anything specific. And for what it's worth, Steins;Gate took me 40-50 hours and Fata took me about 30.

(Without a Vita the romance thing matters a little less and if you have no real preference most of the rest didn't matter either, hah.)

And as for the anime- do you mean Steins;Gate specifically? It just adapts the game. If you mean in general, it's just that some characters lean into the tropes as I said.

iirc they're based out of the Vox office in NYC with some remote editors across the US (like the mcelroys in Texas and West Virginia, and fuckboi former video producer Nick Robinson in SF).

Yeah, I have no idea where certain members of their staff live but they're definitely NYC centered at this point (and I think particularly for new hires?).

An interesting shift, it felt so SF dominated for a long time.
Costs? Easier access to the software (games & web tooling) in the digital age?
