Looking forward to the announcement that Kaneko is leading the art direction on this new SMT HD Project!
KANEKOOOOOO!

You call yourself "RPGCrazied" and you do not know that? *handwaves* Away with you!

Not need to be mean. I know they share names and other stuff. So there are similarities.

And give me Digital Devil Saga HD too!

Mobile:
- Lost Order
- Princess Connect Re:Dive
- Umamusume Pretty Derby

PS4:
- Granblue Fantasy PS4
- Untitled Project Awakening
- ZoE2 Mars

Ongoing Updates:
- Shadowverse
- Granblue Fantasy

If they wanted to have a booth they would certainly have more than enough content for it. Two Platinum Games titles? One directed by Matsuno? Anime crossmedia mobile projects? A ZoE2 remaster with VR? Two of the most popular browser/mobile titles with ongoing updates and a CCS anime tie-in event coming to Granblue soon?

Cygames doesn't need TGS because TGS smells.

Right, I thought they had less stuff (I only remembers ZoE2 and Lost Order). Why does TGS smell?

Persona is an SMT spinoff originally based on Shin Megami Tensei If.

Persona is an SMT spinoff originally based on Shin Megami Tensei If, which is a spinoff of Shin Megami Tensei, which is a spinoff of Megami Tensei, which is based off a trilogy of novels called "Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei."

I think that is how it goes. I may be wrong.

Whatever it is, I hope it's Xbox exclusive. Expectations need to be defied once in a while.

I know you're joking but even if you weren't, it was announced in a Nintendo direct. Not gonna be exclusive to Xbox. :p

Not to mention Persona Q2, the sequel to a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off of a spin-off of a licensed game.

SMT HD is more likely to be multiplatform than an eventual Persona re-release because of the nature of the latter's anime and such. That said, idt it is a case at all where the first is certain to happen and the latter is certain to not happen.

Ideally, they'd both be at least PS4/Switch.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Earlier this year I would have thought it would be multiplattform but now I think Switch only is as likely.

Switch being a success worldwide would make it easier for Nintendo to negotiate exclusive terms with Atlus.

We could get the same type of release schedule like we had on 3DS with SMT4 and FE Awakening... Maybe another eShop cross promotion *believe*

Spring/Summer 18 #FE TMS Port on Switch
Holiday 2018 Fire Emblem Switch
Q1 2019 SMT V Switch

Let a man dream.

I'm excited to finally hear more news about this. Don't care if it's exclusive or not but it will be nice to finally get that out of the way .

Besides wishing for a multiplat release, I really hope that they show the game proper or at least give us a detailed overview of what it is.

At the very least, after this event is done I don't want to still be wondering about whether this is remake or a new entry.

Yea if you asked me a few months ago I wouldve easily said it would be a multiplatform title, but with how well the Switch is selling, I'm thinkin more exclusive/timed Exclusive

It obvioisly will. IDK why people think otherwise.

I mean I think there is a chance it will be PS4 and Switch, but SMTIV was a 3DS exclusive title and Persona is exclusive to PS. How many SMT games have been multiplatform in the past? I can't think of any.

Persona 5 being exclusive to PS isn't a big deal considering all the past titles have been exclusive for the most part. Smt4 was exclusive because it was built specifically for the 3ds hardware and a port wouldn't really work (same with all thier other 3ds games). The switch is a lot closer to the PS4 then the 3ds was to the PS3. So Atlus is not going to put all thier effort into making an HD game and keep it exclusive while ignoring the big market share PS4 has. People are forgetting how cheap this company is. Not to mention when it was unvieled they specified strange journey as being a 3ds only game but didn't specify this as being a switch only game.

Edit: Persona 5 was also in development since before the Wii U was even released. So it probably wasn't in thier plans to develop it for the switch. Not to mention a port of it could still come later. I'm going forward all of atlus' games will be multiplatform PS4/switch. With a select few being PS4 exclusives.

Basically but a company that cheap would also port P5. It's a no brainer and easy cash.

Looking at the previous titles though... Every single mainline SMT game was console exclusive and the majority of the spinoffs were too. Many of those past games were on consoles with close-in-power competitors.

Only nintendo moneyhat can block a ps4 version. It doesn't matter how good switch is doing, PS4 platform is simply massive to be ignored by Atlus. This could be a good move for nintendo to grab exclusivity.

I'll take 3 copies of Persona 5 Golden for Switch! If the deal with Atlus is they'll make their games PS4/Switch I'll be happy.

ok just one copy

The only reason I could've saw SMT HD being Switch exclusive was maybe Atlus was waiting to see if the Switch would be successful and if it was then they would leave it exclusive.

But it's called HD and I feel like it makes the most sense to be on PS4 and Switch.

Please, please be SMTV. I'd bet money that it's just going to be a spin-off, but hopefully I'm wrong.

Well considering Strange Journey started out as IV once upon a time, spin offs aren't always a bad thing. V would be the desired one though, I wonder if they'll sorta revisit the wider scope of the scenario they had planned for IV.

A sneaky Nocturne release on Switch/PS4 would be nice too

After IV, Apocalypse and Liberation, I'm ready for a new battle system. Something as fast-paced and fun as press turn, but completely different. For some reason though I fell like the game might be tightly linked to the previous 2 mainline games, which would mean a lot of systems could carry over. I hope not.

I'm not sure what that has to do with whether or not it'll be a switch exclusive thought. You have to keep in mind that those past games came at a time, when Japan devs were perfectly fine with supporting a single platform. I remember the ff7 interview Kotaku did. And Nomura said that at that time Japanese devs only supported the winner and it was uncommon to release multiplatform games. Times have changed and Japanese devs are far more open to multiplatform games. Not to mention ps4's market share is still a lot bigger than the switchs'. And with rising Dev costs I see no reason why they wouldn't want to go multiplatform.

As a huge persona fan, the little I played of smt 4 on 3ds just did not grab me. I kinda feel like 3ds held it back in some ways especially presentation. I am excited for this one since it has a chance of coming to PS4. Even if it is switch exclusive I will try it at some point when I get the system mostly for fire emblem, octopath and this.

I don't see this happening tbh.

And that's fair. I'm less sure of that then I am off this game being multiplatform. But I could definitely see atlus' I. A few years dropping a switch port of P5 based off the PS3 version with a few added additions ala persona 4 golden.

Kingdom Hearts DDD and SMT IV/A are extremely jaggy games on the 3DS, it's especially noticeable in the latter when you enter a demon's domain. You get that horrible feeling of playing a AAA game on a tiny low res screen, like Burnout Dominator or Liberty City Stories on the PSP.
3DS hardware was a mistake

The reason for me is just Altus keeping the two series separate. Persona just has a strong Sony association so I don't see it moving. In the same way I see SMT proper having a strong Nintendo association other than Nocturne. Tho man whenever I bring up Persona going multiplat I get my head bit off so I've kept that to myself.

Hoping for a new title, but would not be surprised if it was a remake given the anniversary of the series. Either way, I'm down for whatever it is on Switch.

HD demons alone are gonna make it great.

It's not real that obvious... How many Atlus titles have been multi in the past? How many of their titles have been released in PC?

I can see the game being multi down the line but I can also see a Project Octopath or NMH situation happening were they focus on the Switch version/release first.

Nintendo x Atlus have a close relationship regarding SMT so if Nintendo would want that title as an exclusive they can make it happen at this point. If they don't care and Atlus think it's worth the budget increase it will be on multiple systems.

PS. Please bring back Trauma Center.

Persona having a strong Sony alignment isn't intentional imo. Persona Q was on 3ds. I think it's just a symptom of Japanese obsession with the playsation back in the day. People also said the same thing about final fantasty, Tekken, and Metal Gear Solid and look what happened there.

Also idk if I agree that smt is associated with Nintendo. Plenty of smt games on PlayStation as well.

Wonder if it'll EXCLUSIVEly focus on SMT titles...or if they'll discuss anything pertaining to the three upcoming Persona spin-off's. We haven't seen much of Q2...so perhaps a [story] trailer or something slightly more substantial for that.

I've only ever played Persona 5. I gather SMT is... basically the same thing, at least game mechanics-wise? How do the stories usually differ? Is there the life sim part of it still?

My guess like many others is Switch/PS4. I have both but would get the Switch version.

SMT games are alot less story focused, but usually have multi endings. Battle systems are conceptually similar but functionally different. Also they tend to be much harder than Persona games.

It is when another Sony subsidiary is bankrolling anime adaptations, putting them on TV and in cinemas, and advertising spinoffs and new releases on the ad blocks where the anime air.

The HD part make it sound like it could be a remake.

What HD part? That's just what people are calling it because there's no title yet. Did you watch the teaser? It says "Shin Megami Tensei - Newest Entry", there's no HD or anything.

Fate has that too and there's still switch versions of hrs latest game so I'm not sure that means all that much beyond legacy.

I don't think that has a baring on the brand being exclusive though. Like I said we already have 2 persona games on Nintendo hardware.

Plus I was mostly taking about historically. Persona games were ps exclusive because the playsation consoles were the place to be for Japan devs.

The only similarity is demon fusion and negotiation.

SMT plays more like a traditinal turned based RPG like DQ and older Final Fantasy games.

Well, the words in the teaser were in Japanese so I assumed that "Shin Megami Tensei HD" is the actual name for the project, since everyone from gaming outlets to fans and even the title of that video, are referring to it as that.

There's no life sim elements. They tend to be straightforward RPGs where you recruit and manage demons to help you in battle. The settings are usually some form of a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, and the stories usually revolve around multiple factions you can align yourself with (or reject totally) to effect the outcome of the story.
