Final Fantasy VII Remake shifts to internal dev under Mobius project leader

Rewatching the trailer... I forgot how good the game looks.

All they really should do is make this loyal to the original, make it pretty, while adding new optional story stuff.

This game should not be getting a "Let's rethink everything about FF7R!"

;__;

Also, how many people are in the "will no longer release episodically camp? The whole point of it being episodic is so that it fans wouldn't have to wait as long for the game, or so Kitase said. But it's been 2 and a half years, so I can only assume they're just releasing a big, complete game.

I would love to know why. Seems extremely counter productive.
You must be new to Squeenix. Ever since they merged this is just how they work. Announce a game when development is still in pre production, then spend years working with no real design doc so that they can chop, change, and reboot over the course of an entire console generation (or two, in Versus XIII's case). VII Remake is still going to be episodic, and it's still years away. If they have any smarts among them it's for the PS5 though so the episodes will play out across a single console gen rather than two (which would make the inevitable complete package a much easier sell, rather than having the first part of the game look visually dated compared to the rest).

Lord Nomura back at it again. I was wondering how he wanted to show footage at the Monaco anime event back in Spring 2017. And Square-Enix wouldn't let him do that, so he released a couple of screenshots instead. How couldn't he just show footage of it now at TGS? I don't expect this be present at the forthcoming PSX in December. Happy 2018 for the next info update.

Probably because someone at SE knew that the game would be changing developers and after some time the game may not have looked even remotely close to the footage he wanted to show.

I'd bet anything in his own way that's what he's trying to do as well some different spin, some weird addition.

I'm just glad it's not ffViii I'd be more pissed

Do you honestly believe Square Enix is able to deliver an AAA game in the vein of what has already been shown including all the contents of the original game, and not take forever? I'm highly skeptical. I've recently replayed FFVII on Steam and the amount of contents is pretty large. Unless they cut/scale down a lot of stuffs, I cannot see release a big, complete game in the next couple of years.

Hey, man!

I'm like.... 65% sure will see FF7R at PSX in December. Hopefully we see something substantial.

And they really have the power to ramp up hype within seconds if they want. Lol show Tifa and the Internet will explode.

I think you missed this.

LOL.

I remember when CyberConnect was announced as a dev and people were saying it should come out faster because of that.

Oh well.

I do not expect FFVII Remake to show up until maybe PSX 2018 at the earliest. KH3 should be out by then
hopefully...

See: FFIX vs FFX sales. Not exactly a launch title, but you get the point.
See: changing market conditions.

Japanese market has remarkably declined. Development costs have exponentially ballooned. Inherent risk aversion of massive projects.

It's a mute discussion anyway, because it won't happen, and if it does it will be (long) after PS5 launches.

Which is likely anyway, cus' it sure ain't coming anytime soon.

Those 4 million copies of Tomb Raider and that flopping Deus Ex will make Eidos pay. And yes Nomura San, here's your 100M check, you better use it well... Wait, you spent half of it taking photos of rocks around the world to use as reference to your textures? OK then. (That actually happened).

This was under Tabata but ok.

Anyways, time will tell how things turn out but they need to not be so mum on this. And stop showing extended footage at random times at events in certain locations.
This is giving me flashbacks.

Square please, CC2 released an expansion this year and will have shipped 2 games this year. Nomura’s incompetence is the problem and the fact square lets him do what ever fuckery he likes his baffling.

Guy can’t ship a game worth a damn.

Anyone who pulls that nonsense clearly doesn't know how that company even works.

Didn't know Nomura once complain that FFXIII was taking resources away from his Versus project?

I guess Nomura doesn't know how the company he works at even works. :(

I was talking about blind fans and I don't think comparing events from years ago really applies here.

XV would never impede on VIIR because even if BD2 wasn't working on updates for XV they'd be working on Tabata's new IP.

Episodic was never about releasing sooner. It was because they know they could get away with charging you 60 dollars 3 times and most people wouldnt bat an eye.

I'm just going to assume that with all the time that has passed, the game has switched to a turn-based style system.

:(

Watch PSX have a short concept art video ending with "Final Fantasy VII remake now in development!"

Jk, it probably won't show up at all.

I think this is good news -- it's nice to see SE acknowledging what kind of gravity and impact this product will have, so it needs to be extraordinary...

Was it announced too soon? Oh yeah.

I think Nomura knows how the company works better than anyone. By how he's worked at Square Enix for 26 years. 12 of those years were spent making trailers for FFvXIII, FFVIIIR, and KH3.

Yeah for this game I'm going to hibernation mode like I did with KH3 and Versus. If more stuff gets announced then great! But if not and while it's not I'm going to push this and KH3 far deep into my brain where I won't keep it at the forefront.

We'll get more one day.

I can see them doing the same thing as before like with XV.

Let their next big game (KH3) come out, then a few months pass and then we start seeing VIIR more.

This transfer set the game back a couple of years but its probably better than the full blown disaster that was waiting to happen.

We would've probably had another FF14-level disaster.

Cyberconnect has little to do with with AAA RPGs of that scale and certainly not in today's market. The decision was dumb to begin with.
