Trying to loose tummy fat is the worst

I went from 188 lbs at the start of the year to 174 in June just through changing diet, cutting carbs and doing cardio. But since June, I've plateaued and am not losing any weight. I've noticed that my waist, legs and neck/face shrunk, but the tummy fat is still there just as rotund. I am unable to lose this fat for the past 3 months. Do I have to do crunches and other exercises? Is cardio not enough?

If its the first fat you gained then its the last one that will leave

just gotta keep going with the diet and exercises. Also im pretty sure you can't "target" fat loss in a single area.

First tragedy, then farce.
It's probably where your body stores most of it's fat. You're probably losing weight still but offsetting losses with muscle gains and burning all of the other fat in your body first.

Targeted workouts don't really work. Some abs a d pilates might get it tighter and held in better, but you just gotta keep burning calories and it'll go eventually.

Ive got the same issue. I'm 15% body fat, more muscle than I've ever had and still have a little gut that won't go away.

You cannot influence where you lose fat. You can just keep losing fat overall and gain muscle which can make it look like there is less fat.

That’s funnny, I went from 188 in June and weighed 174 yesterday

I did it by biking. Just kept track of calories, didn’t worry about Carbs and my belly fat has certainly gone down.

I've dropped from 310 to 200 since January 1st doing keto and working out 6 days a week (3 with a trainer) and that's my trouble area as well, but I've heard the first on last off thing before as well. I've also got a problem with loose skin but I'm assuming only time or surgery will help that.

No. You can't really target areas of your body with exercise to shift fat.

You need to eat less, that's all really. Congrats on your progress so far, that's a stone lost, great job.

The problem you've described is what happens with my ass. I'm 175 pounds and lost a bunch of weight to get there, but still have a bit of a fat ass.

Add weights. Recently I just added upper body once a week, doing a circuit of the machines in the gym. I already do cardio and spin class during the week. Adding weights, even basic machine stuff, has helped me lose some already.

You can't spot reduce fat I'm afraid, total myth. Doing crunches and ab work in general will be working your ab muscles under the fat, causing them to grow which if you still have some fat on top can lead to an even bigger looking belly. Cruel irony I know, it sucks.

Abs are entirely made in the kitchen, so reduce your caloric intake and get on those intense cardio workouts regularly. Unfortunately that little belly pouch is the very last thing to go, but once it does, it's worth it! Stick at it :)

Intermittent fasting or just fasting and HIIT. Please don't reduce your calorie intake. That's just bad advice. The only thing you need to take out of your diet is processed carbohydrates.

The ab muscles are still made by exercise.

But if you want to see what you did you have to take care of business in the kitchen.

OP don't get caught up in week to week results. Just stick to whatever you are doing. If you work hard and are patient the results always come.

Yeah, it sucks that our bellies accumulate more fat deposits than the rest of the body. I wish we would instead grow more fat cells in the ass, calves and biceps

I lucked out and my fat stores in my butt and thighs, which is nice because I can hide it with baggy pants/shorts. It's like a cushion for wherever I sit!

As simple as the fact its the first place your body stores fat. Some people don't have this issue. (I am not one of them). I'm thin and athletic, don't get me wrong, but to get to six pack abs and all that (which I have done), it takes an insane amount of prep both eating and working out. For my life, it wasn't worth it. I had to give up too much social life to achieve those goals.

You aren't going to want to hear it, but you probably need to eat MORE and build some more muscle...muscle burns of fat more...Then try and again to cut down that stomach.

OR, get a routine you like, and just ride it out. You probably look good anyway.

Outdated advice. The carbohydrate - insulin hypothesis is dead in the water, and conversion of carbs to fat is rare.

Do you have a strength training routine? You can burn alot of calories through cardio, but if I recall that's only for the duration of your workout while your muscles will burn fat throughout the day.

Got the same problem. Started at 204 on aug 26th last Saturday loggeed in at 189.6 and this last saturday at 189.4. What the fuck. I wasstill averaging between 1500-1600 daily. I got a little lazy on working out but i still should have lost some.

Women are lucky. they gain fat in their ass and thighs first and end up looking thick and delicious.

Men gain fat in the belly first which looks awful.

OP, i have lost my tummy fat before and i did that by completely eliminating rice, soda and fries from my diet. snacks too. i went back to eating all those things afterwords and gained the tummy back. 3 years later, i still cant seem to get rid of while maintaining a sub 2k calorie diet.

You just have to workout an hour a day and cut off rice, soda and snacks. eat smaller portions and live a miserable fucking life without tasty food, delicious snacks and refreshing drinks. thats the only way to lose that belly fat.

That fucking belly pouch is killing me,it's a little noticeable but i'm so pissed.
Upper abs are very defined but the lower ones not so much,it's definitely my diet because i do a lot of cardio, lifting but i eat a lot of crap as well.

OP, you need to calorie count. Buy a kitchen scale and be meticulous about it.

Get your body fat measured. Get down to 15% and then see if your belly has gone down. Hint: it will.

This.

I need the same advice, but tailored to a 40 year-old. I hit 40 and my metabolism seemed to notice. I used to be able to do tweaks to my diet and up my exercise slighly and shed 10 lbs. Now I do that and I'm going through all the misery of a restricted diet while my weight is stubbornly flatlined.

Aging sucks.

Currently workin on losing weight as well and have been doing well with calorie counter. But the belly fat is what gets to me still. Reading this thread sounds like i'll just have to keep at it. I'd rather lose weight and then come from a lower weight to work on muscle.

Actually I gain fat in my arms first

But then ass and thighs so it's not too bad

Just gotta deal with some arm jiggle too

Lower stomach and love handles are absolute bastards for a lot of men.

Long-term calorie control will help, but if its really stubborn your only options are increasing muscle mass (to balance out the fat so it looks better) or surgery. Fucking genetics 🙄

Rice is one of the best carbs you can eat, so I'm not sure why you would cut that out. You didn't gain it back just because you started eating rice. Rice is a great energy source for non-keto people as long as the portion sizes are controlled. Soda and fries are garbage because of their portion sizes and added calories being way more than rice.

An hour a day of exercise is too arbitrary to be effective advice. Follow a workout plan that aligns with your goals. Sometimes it may take more time, and sometime less.

Same here. I've gotten my body fat down to around 15-20% after mixing in muay thai with weight lifting, cutting carbs, and regular cardio for my wedding last year, but even then my gut was still present. Just have to keep at it.

get a nutritionist to help you with your diet and get a training plan.

if you want to get lean and get rid of tummy fat it will cost you blood and sweat.

Instead of losing the belly fat, make everything around it bigger

Same boat buddy, as in, im trying my damdest to trim my mid section.

I go gym 3-5 times a week, 2 with personal trainer, im working much harder then i ever have, yet i found losing fat much easier in my 20s. Early 30s now, not nearly getting the same results. Though I got to admit i do eat and drink more dairy then previously, my latte's and cappachinos intake has increased drastically.

My legs and back have blown up nicely, but stomach remains. Im now convinced the sure way to lose fat is calorie counting and to be consistent. Might look into it.

15% body fat is really good

It's the last thing to go, and the first thing to come back. Got down into the 160's, and still had a little somethin' there.

Need to get back on the calorie counting train. Still kept most of my gainz, but I don't look like it at all. Stressful year that I muffled with beer. Kept my butt tho.
