I have zero respect for those NFL players that kneeled for the first time yesterday

It's all bullshit. When Kaepernick was, and still is, being blackballed by every single owner in the NFL, where were these people? When cops kept killing people, where were these people? When a fucking white supremacist killed somebody and tried to lynch another person at a rally, where the fuck were these players?

No, it took the fucking president of the United States calling them bitches for them to finally go "huh, you know what? Maybe we should try and send a message". And it's not even a message about racism. No, it's a "Hey, fuck you, Trump, don't talk shit about us" message that rings totally fucking hollow. People fucking died and they didn't do shit.

And all those players that linked arms with the owners are even fucking worse. This is a dude that's responsible for your fellow athlete not having a job, and you link arms with him in a show of "unity"? Bullshit. There is no unity with the owners. If there was, Kaepernick would have a job. You're fucking lucky that Kaepernick was brave enough to take the bullet. Those owners would be the first ones to blackball you if you would've been the first one to step out of the established line.

All yesterday did was make me respect Kaepernick even more than I previously did. He didn't wait for someone to insult him. He looked at what was happening in this country and said something needs to change. He put his livelihood on the line. He made people that used to ignore the injustices in this country take notice. And he did it without even trying to bring attention to himself. He made it about something bigger than himself. He didn't send out statements to the press before he sat down saying "hey, watch this. I'm about to make a statement."

This entire thing fucking infuriates me. Fuck the NFL and fuck those players.

I understand your frustration. But imho better late than never. There were still players who didn't kneel/support yesterday. You should be angry with those players.

I wouldn't say I have zero respect, but I do understand the sentiment.
The messae really warped from "against brutality" to "against Trump" which I feel is a disservice to Kap.

Not to mention it does come off as opportunistic, especially those who just linked hands together.
Though the one guy who was working out during the anthem was hilarious.

But I mean, at the end of the day, if an Apple CEO donates 1 million, I'm not going to lambast him because he should have donated 2 or 3. Incremental progress, even diagonally, can still be accepted at times.

The people kneeling yesterday were not kneeling explicitly for black civil rights; they were kneeling as an act of protest against the asshole president abusing athletes and dividing the country. That's not the same thing Kaepernick did, and surely Kaepernick deserves respect for doing something genuinely challenging with no safety net, but I think they nevertheless deserve respect for doing this both because of the principle of the thing and because their choice to do so helps protect Kaepernick a bit.

I have zero respect for the millions of people over the last decade who have been convinced to change their minds regarding LGBT rights. If you weren't in favor of it immediately, go back to being wrong on the issue just because you weren't on board from day one. This is how we'll build consensus!!!

If they don't continue to kneel and only did it the one week it was the top story then I'll lose respect for them.

Anyone that kneeled Sunday better continue to do so.

I personally think you're taking a bit of an extreme stance by saying "screw everyone who keeled yesterday because they didn't do it when I wanted them to." Over time more and more players have been protesting racial injustice and our President's divisive rhetoric until we had that watershed moment yesterday where the whole league rebuked his comments. I still think it was more about solidarity and the message Kaep started than "Oh we got called SOB's, we will show him!" NFL players aren't sensitive snowflakes like Trump, I'm sure they say way worse things to each other on the field every Sunday.

You have a point about linking arms with the owners. That was weak, especially Jags and Pats players.

"I only respect the people who did it before it was popular."

Is this the social justice equivalent of a hipster.......a wokester?

If we're gonna go no true scottsman, I'm gonna guess that most of the people kneeling for the first time voted against the orange one and didn't talk other people into not voting. Unlike Kaepernick.

No one's perfect. Recognize when people do something right when they do it and don't throw in their face that they did something wrong in the past.

People had a right to be afraid. Look at what happened to Kaep. You can remember him as the most brave, though I wonder if he'd have still done it knowing what it cost him, but don't shame those who do the right thing. Reinforce good behavior, hate on those who are actively fighting against the message.

Tbh alot of our issues end up overshadowed. I'm conflicted.
And I see you Ray Lewis, you just gonna spin this and say you were praying instead of kneeling when the time comes.

Kap is the reason that even took place yesterday. When he started doing what he did, he got a ton of shit for it and I would've never imagined that it would get this widespread.

Some of your frustrations are true, but they all had a choice yesterday, and they chose to let the president know he ain't shit and they ain't going nowhere.

Fuck Trump.

Really gained a lot of respect for Peppers. I believe the Panthers were put under a lot of pressure to do nothing by both the coach and owner. After hearing Rivera's post game comments I will no longer pull for them.

They didn't see the light. They're co-opting Kaepernick's message and turning it into something else entirely because they were personally insulted.

You're getting all the way bogged down in the nitty gritty. The greater message and optics of it all is what's important.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I get the hypocrisy outrage, but these things take time. Progress is a marathon and it has been a steep uphill climb for a long time and will remain to be one, every inch matters even if delayed.

Kaepernick originally sat during the anthem before changing it to kneeling. Shouldn't you be outraged at this capitulation of principle, OP?

Fuck that noise. We all need to take action against this guy. We should have ralies every weekend around the country against this shit stain.

At least they're doing something now. I don't view calling these people out in this way (ie fuck them) as productive. I don't see drawing that line in the sand as having any sort of positive impact, moving forward.

Some people need baby steps and time. I don't think we should turn our back on them because they didn't protest when and the way we wanted.

What did he say?

I know Rivera is a vet so he's probably on that shit.

i suppose you pioneered everything you ever took part in OP.

i almost passed out from rolling my eyes so hard

It just recently became a super politicized issue, they were doing this in solidarity of their teammates in light of Trump's recent statements. Stop damning people for taking the right side just because it was "late."

Should be noted, it was Kapernick and others who kneeled who were insulted and called bitches. Not the players who joined in yesterday.
