Guild Wars 2 - Path of Fire |OT| Mount and Shining Blade

Just finished the story: MAJOR SPOILERS (don't click if you have not finished the whole story):

First off, the boss fight against both the war beast and Balthazar was immensely fun and while I didn't wipe to the Warbeast, we wiped several times against Balth,

Still, they were immensely fun fights and I enjoyed them a lot.

The epilogue section was very nice and it showed how we were feeling quite well.
We were in no mood for celebrating, not with Aurene being gone and Kralk...

Which brings me to Kralk. He has absorbed the magic from the GOD of War making him immensely more powerful and branded the Desert even more. We were pretty much damned if we do, damned if we don't. We needed to stop Balthazar afterall.

The cliffhanger hurts, I just want the next part of the story now!

As a side note: I am very annoyed that there are several missions that need to be replayed by your team mates OR done solo due to the achievements only being granted to the party leader. My biggest complaint honestly.

Besides that, This has been one enjoyable expansion, loved it.

I was just saying you should grab ascended.

If you have any of the meta armor pieces from LWS3 lying around or that can be easily obtained I'm pretty sure all of those have Viper's as a choice. Otherwise you might as well just craft Magi's armor and stat swap it.
i'll try that

Currently recuperating funds because I finished Chuka Champawat

BTW, for anyone else that cares about this sort of stuff, I recommend completing the first couple story missions a few times to make the different selections (Amnoon, Sunspears, Joko) to unlock those banner collections before starting on Bounties, since some of them require bounty drops that won't award retroactively.

Just asking here but has anyone had an issue with not getting the Elonian stuff from completing the story? The ones for Dress Rehearsal achievement?

I got everything when I finished the story, so working as intended here.

My partner didn't and it looks like on reddit several others didn't either. One post mentions playing with other people where some got it and some didn't. Could be an issue with partying with people for it.

:/ might send in a support ticket tomorrow.

Can anybody recommend an easy way to farm gold that isn't auction house flipping? I've never really had more than 100 gold in this game and I really want to get the hidden mount without spending IRL money. Back when I played this game years ago I know it was better to salvage everything but is it still better to salvage rares now or just sell them outright? I'm at 107 now but that's only because I emptied my bank and dropped 45 laurels on heavy crafting bags and I'm not really sure what to do now. I normally just sit in WvW but Stormbluff Isle is getting dumpstered right now.

Thanks for the heads up! Is there achievements for doing every single bounty target?

Actually I think I have an update to this. You need to do the Bounties on the character that made that support (ie, the character that supported Joko needs to do the events for the joko Banner.) I think

Some of the bounties have drops for other collections.

- Log every day for your daily

- Get the daily Dragon Chest from major world bosses. Use http://gw2timer.com/ or the overlay in game.

- Use Y and look for groups around maps. Silverwaste, HoT areas. You'll find large squads of people just roaming the world in rotation. Spice it up and do various zones. One of the major keys to finding the good places to play is to play with a sizeable group of 10 people all the way up to 250 who are doing the content.
If you can do all the HoT metas every day for bonus chest that's good too. GW2 rewards playing different sort of content every day instead of running the same bit of content 10x times every day.

- Make a whole bunch of Mystic Forge Salvage Kits
and spend your time Salvaging your Rares, and selling your lvl 80 Elites.

- The cool thing is that there are many ways you're making passively money if you're just playing.

- They buffed the rewards for doing the story missions in the base game. I had a bunch of alts who got some nice rewards after taking them through the story.

Play fractals. Unlock Fractal mastery.

Log in daily to receive the reward and do your daily achievements.

Finished the main story tonight for Path of Fire. Aside from the couple of major bugs I mentioned earlier in this thread, this is possibly Guild Wars at its finest.

I really enjoyed it.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see at least half a dozen extra areas I didn't even enter during the main story progression.

It should be account based and if it isn't I'd consider that a bug.

I recommend not immediately salvaging the unidentified dropped gear until you have completed the elonian weapon collection.

Thanks for the responses. As for fractals, do I still need to worry about "agony"? I remember when they first came out pugs weren't really a fan of inviting people without resists. My current character also only has two ascended pieces of armor being chest and legs + 2 rings.

Yes. Agony resistance is required by level 15 or so. You can buy infusions for resistance and upgrade them.

The best way to make money "casually" is by doing the T4 fractal dailies. Takes anywhere from 30 mins to an hour and a half depending on what kind of group you get. You'll gather up gold (and your primary source of ascended equipment for alts) over time without really burning out.

If you want to grind for gold, Silverwaste RIBA farm or Fractal 40 farm is the way to go. For F40, you need a good party comp and good players to make it outpace RIBA. The bounty zerg train in the new maps might compete, but there hasn't been any hard statistics on it yet (I personally don't believe it does).

Morokh

Might want to avoid acronyms when explaining something to a long returning player RIBA isn't really clear.
I know it's a silverwaste farm but I don't even know what RIBA stands for myself >_<

Bounty zerg doesn't compete in terms of rewards with most of the established methods of gaining mats/gold but the way it's already shaping itself,it'll most likely become the go-to way to farm trade contract once most people have exhausted what little replayability there is in the new maps.
It's quick, easy and zerging it pretty much invalidates all the mechanics involved.

Accidentally ended up in a 50-man squad running HP trains on all the HoT maps. This is fantastic.

Yes. It's the way to do it. The problem is that it can be frustrating for players who don't know about the LFG system.

It allows you to get into the right maps where people are organizing. When you got a good rag tag of players Tangled Depths become a lot of fun. But when you're going solo in that area you seriously get fucked up as many things 2-3 shots you.

You can get precursors from the unidentified items theres a thread in reddit bout it with someone getting one.

I assumed this was case considering it says these itens are affected by magic find

Completed Act 1 yesterday. Just a quick quest about The Sacrifice mission.
The boss you fight at the end, is there an easier way to kill it? It turned into a war of attrition in the end, he kept spawning reinforcements so I would hit him would some burst until I died and respawn and do it again. Was I missing a mechanic or something?

Haven't moved onto the second map just yet, I've been doing some exploring for mastery points and map completion. Is there anything holding back 100% map completion for Crystal Oasis such as masteries?

Spoilers in regards to the NPC who starts the hidden mount collection

Looks like this is Tahlkora. ;_; what a sad end to an awesome character.
:(

So Dunkoro is a Heart dude and a Ghost (which is better than what happened to Tahl)
and Tahl is this.

Wonder what happened to Melonni and Koss outside of them getting together. Did they leave okay lives or did they eventually die in battle against Joko. Hmm...

spoilers regarding herald

everyone is off belief on Reddit that the heralds idenitity is the henchmen devona (using hammer the armor going on about father etc and reading the burnt pages links to her lore anout being part of ascalon chosen and fighting in the guild etc

these call backs are awesome

also for anyone who hasnt seen it

Yeah, I saw that. I think it's debatable and not as clear cut as the one I linked (which is outright confirmed by the end of it according to the comments).

But if the Herald really was
Devona... at least we set her free.

Hmm, debating checking this out. I'm not the biggest fan of GW2 at all but the exploration and lack of sub fee are always cool I guess. Are there any substantial combat updates in this expansion beyond (I assume) balance changes and the new elite specs?

Playing through the story again on my sylvari is reminding me how much better the Human female VA is compared to Hale. During on of the Herald fights, the pc gives an incredibly flippant (appropriately) "I am stronger than you" and the Sylvari version of the line is just bread sandwich.

So, I last played GW2 a couple of months before the base game became F2P. I skipped HoT entirely and since there's now two expansions worth of content I decided to jump back in. I remember reading that Anet prefered to introduce Masteries as a new end-game mechanic as opposed to use the same "old" increase in item level and this seems to be the case with PoF too.

Soooooo...if I already had a few characters that already have full exotics what else besides the story and masteries is there to do? You know, gear wise.

Stewart is a great VA. Loved her in Dishonored!

do I really have to keep all the "collectibles" in my inventory? The inventory clutter is seriously out of hand, I'm getting bag in bags, all the temporary bonus items, then there's all the keys for every area, even the pets take up a slot ... half my inventory space is just my secondary bank, since I don't really want to drop money on the increased bank space yet

getting xp for the poison resistance and gliding 5 mastery takes forever as well. I nearly cleared Basin and Tangled Depths with my Necro today, aside from the areas I still can't access, and did the first Dragon Stand run (total lagfest on my laptop/connection). Also proceeded with the main quest up to the dragon fight - is it a solo-fight or do I need a group for that? I still haven't fought the base GW2 end boss despite getting to the last mission and completing all of Orr

No you can throw them away, and in the rare case where you end up needing it (a few legendary collections), you can buy the items back.

cool, thanks

another question, is there any hope of getting ascended tier equipment without doing tons of grinding or should I just be happy with exotics?

i'm in act 3 of the story, having a lot of fun so far

likes
  • visuals are still impressive for a 5 year old game, art is as great as ever
  • the fact that maps are all soloable, no more champion hero points like in HoT
  • choya are awesome

dislikes
  • instancecreate failed has prevented me from progressing in the story at various times over the weekend
  • some enemies seem a bit overtuned (harpies, branded devourers), others seem too weak
  • story can kind of drag a bit with too much talking at times
  • zero meta maps (and i think there aren't any at all) which i understand there were probably too many in hot but even one would have been ok

questions
  • now that items drop as "undentified rarity piece of gear" - is there any difference in salvaging w/o identifying vs after identifying?
  • is there a way to return to the crystal desert without using a waypoint?

the unid gear can proc upgrades for example a green unid may yield a yellow..that and skins for your collection..

amnd to answer the second question...no, for pressing cerimonial lore reasons... that whole part of the continent was quarantined/went dark, so naturally they wouldnt have an asuran gate there. perhaps they'll add it in lw4

i went to the lighthouse in LA where the airship takes you to the desert on the first part of the story but none of the crew wanted to talk to me, feelsbadman

So frustrated right now. Idk if it's cause I don't know how to play engineer or if I just don't know how to play GW2 in general. HoT is kicking my ass. Fighting a single beetle brings me to the brink of death and taking on more than one enemy is guaranteed death. I feel like wet tissue and I can't sustain myself and the only option feels like trying to trudge through the jungle one enemy at a time and there's so much verticality and dead ends and I don't know how to unlock my glider. So many things seem so inscrutable to me I don't even know where to begin. I thought maybe my gear was too low so I got some level 80 carrion gear from the WvW vendor which has power and condition damage which seems to be what you want as an engineer. But I'm still barely scraping by with my healing skills on cooldown and a sliver of health. I don't feel like I'm playing it right. I'm trying to go holosmith, but GW2 API is down so I can't really check on build types for it.

idk, GW2 combat always frustrated me when I started as an engineer. I don't like kitswapping so much. I don't want all my utility skills to just be flamethrower kit, grenade kit, and elixer kit or bomb kit. But it seems like most builds I see online revolve around having lots of kits. I had more fun when I made my second character as a Mesmer. So maybe I might just go to my Mesmer character. And if I still feel like I'm dying too fast, then maybe I just suck at GW2.

HoT can be brutal, a lot of the areas were designed for people to run in packs. I think the glider unlocks in the second story step, so make sure you do the first few story missions, then make sure you're training up the mastery to unlock it.

Crafting always works. Weapons in particular are pretty reasonable, especially specialization collection items and the free ascended weapons you can quest for after hot.

Rings/trinkets/amulets can best be acquired through fractals, guild missions, and laurels respectively.

Domain of Vabbi needs work FPS drop in that map is horrible,, never had a map drop FPS like that in GW franchise, i go from 70fps to 19, at one point it was zero fps....

I don't play engineer much so I can't speak too much to that, but I've also been put off by the seeming reliance on kit swapping. Not really my style. That said in my limited experience Holosmith is shaping up to be viable without kits. The issue is just getting those Hero Points to unlock it.

I think the gliding mastery should be available after the first story step in Verdant Brink. You just need to fill up your XP bar, obtain at least 1 mastery point, click on the bottom right corner of the XP bar/go to masteries in the [h]ero menu, and click the + button on Basic Gliding to learn it.

If you're playing on an NA server you can post your character name/accountname.#### here or PM me. I can help you get some hero points and show you around later today. I'm sure other Gaffers would be willing to help as well.

Just random exploring and progressing as a Power Mirage is pretty fun, but it feels like I'm just having an affair and I'm going to be going back to my true soulmate Chronomancer any day now. I'll miss the axe, but I miss alacrity more.
