If the first one comes out and grosses 1.5 bil is it considered a disappointment?
so it has to make 3 billion to make money?
$1 billion will buy you a lot of tropes and clichés.

Sounds cheap for him. Watch it get increase. Is the Cameron way.

3D was bloody impressive on a 70mm IMAX screen back in 2009.
How will it be different in 2020?
The equivalent will need to be Virtual Reality from the ground up with special gear just like the original Avatar with the custom gear for 3D. This is definitely the next logical & technological step.3D was bloody impressive on a 70mm IMAX screen back in 2009.

Given the return four films will make, $250m per film isn't too bad. They'll make that back in spades.
I wonder if that includes the years of R&D since Avatar.
Im still not sure why people expect this to fare any better than Alice Through The Looking Glass did.

Preach. The man is always hungry and never stops pushing.Cameron never does anything half-assed.
If there's a single director on this planet that can be trusted with such an insane amount of money, it's James fucking Cameron.
$1 B is too low. Its 4 new Avatar films...
All of these films will be more than $250m.
Marketing plus the real budget gets the total over $2B I think.
Of course marketing deals and blah blah will help.
Still, its a massive undertaking. Hopefully there is a decent crew filming behind the scenes kind of stuff too.

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen
They're called blueberry slushiesDo they make Avatar-themed flesh lights?
Asking for a friend.

This is absolutely insane but if anyone can deliver 4 remotely decent films it's Cameron.
Shame Cameron will be almost 70 years old by the time these films are done though. Knowing his typical schedule that probably only means another movie or two.

Don't think so. I think this is it for him. Don't think anything else interests him.
I guess I just don't understand what else this story could be besides what it was in Avatar 1.
So either he's gonna blow our minds or we're going to be underwhelmed.
It may be from a lifetime of playing vidya gaems, but I felt nothing watching Avatars visuals.Dunno. I thought he would never be able to top Titanic, but he did with Avatar 1 so I'm excited to see what he has in store for us.

cameron is gonna come out and say "8k resolution at 48fps with visuals that make avatar 1 look like a playstation 1" so no need for marketing pushes
