"That works both ways"?
Is that like in the US politics discussion, people saying "Both sides"?

The games that were on the US SNES but not on the PAL SNES are cumulatively far superior to those released on the PAL SNES but not the US SNES.
Heck, how many of each of those are on these systems? The PAL SNES Classic is getting games that were released on the original US SNES... Meanwhile, for those original PAL SNES games... umm... anything here?...

P.S. The list in that topic contains many inaccuracies...

This. Chrono Trigger was not officially released in EU until the DS version. Also, according to Wikipedia FFVI (III in NA) was not released EU either until the GBA version in 2007.

I'm sure it was the same case for other JRPGs, and that's just one genre.

Back in those days, they thought that Europe hated RPGs. It was weird.

Exactly.
Hence my statement that the games released on the original US SNES far more than make up for the superior colouring of the original PAL SNES.

To be fair, they weren't exactly convinced for the US either. Square made Baby's First RPG just for US afterall. We did end up missing a ton of really great ones.

I mean, obviously the Japanese SNES was far superior to both of them, that goes without saying.

This week is so jam packed with gaming. It's almost a dream. Im tossing destiny 2(on two consoles), FFXIV, golf story, steamworld, metroid, and Picross all to the side for a weekend of SMRPG. It's gonna be amazing.

Really looking forward to this. I have a pre-order with both Target (US version) and Amazon UK (PAL version) as well as the Hori pad.

Aside from Assassin's Creed Origins and a few other smaller titles, this is like the majority of my console gaming plans for the rest of the year - doubly so once it's hackable.

Same here. I can't wait to play secret of mana with my son. Gonna be a blast.

I hope to god it's hackable too. I'd love to get the version of FFVI with bug fixes in it and the GBA translation.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Anyone know how big storage in SNES mini classic is? Hopefully slightly bigger than NES mini classic.

I would be absolutely surprised if the storage were larger than the NES Classic, considering the NES Classic had enough storage to EASILY fit 20 SNES roms. All early indications point to this being the exact same internals as the NES Classic in a fancy SNES case with new software.

The rewind feature and the fact that each save state has the previous 30 seconds of gameplay saved in it might use up a lot of space. I'm going to be wary about putting too many ROMs on, if that feature opens up. If you recall, putting too many on a NES Mini limited the amount of saves you got, and this could be worse.

If it's the same then it should be about 500MB, right?

Personal preference and nostalgia, that's how it works both ways.

I'm still far more interested in games like Parodius, The Firemen or Heberekes Popoon than any of the much lauded RPG's that were never released over here.

None of those are on the SNES Classic, though.

So what? The SNES Classic game line-up is incredibly limited when you consider what the system had to offer, why do you think so many people are asking about hacking it as soon as possible?

It's not some indisputable best of collection, aside from the first party nintendo games which obviously deserve to be included people could argue all day over what should be on there.

Does your TV have a USB port? If so, plug it into that.

If not, you just need one of those standard phone ones.

Thanks! I should be able to plug it into my TV then.

Yes it was crazy, I (my parents) had to import all of those games. FF Mystic Quest was my first JRPG and I wanted more, so I had to import FFVI, Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG to name a few. Mario RPG even required a trick to get it to boot if you used a convertor, which I found out myself.

Terranigma would have been awesome to have in this collection though.

I preordered with Argos too. They contacted me via text message yesterday to say delivery will be on the 29th.

Have you paid for it? Cos when I preordered back in June they immediately took payment.

Yep, they took payment instantly in June. I've not had any contact from them. Not sure what to do. If you click on the product on your account does it just say they don't sell it anymore?

The status just says 'sit tight your order is in progress' and in the details it says 'Your order has been placed. We'll contact you to arrange a convenient day and time for delivery (except for items which are delivered free by post)'.

I guess I'll just continue to wait, I don't really want to order somewhere else at this point..

Which rpg should i sink into first, ive only ever played the first hour of ff6 and its a game ive been dying to play, but i hear amazing things about super mario rpg as well, mana will likely come after those two. Me and the girlfriend will definitely be sinking a ton of time into mario world and dkc regardless

Considering your avatar, you should play Final Fantasy 3(6) first, since it's far superior to 7.

Personally I think Earthbound is the best RPG included. But it's also hard to go wrong with Final Fantasy III, Mario RPG, or Secret of Mana. All of the included games are absolute classics.

If anything, the NES classic had a ton of free space. It looks like they are actually trying to make better use of it all with features like Rewind which is more or less just a series of save states.

To anyone into modding/hacking, the biggest difference is that the native SNES emulator on the SNES Mini is far superior than the ones available on the NES mini.

Does the SNES Classic Mini also have manuals like the NES one? Would love to get them all. Also would be sweet if it has the complete Earthbound guide since I don't think it had a normal manual, I may be wrong.

This is a good point.

Right, just unboxed the console and this thing is TINY...but in a cute way.

The controllers feel good. I havent touched an authentic snes controller in ages but whereas the other buttons feel good, and the select and start buttons have that authentic sticky rubbery feel, the dpad feels stiffer.

The cord won't reach from the couch to the tv but I do have comfy chairs to sit in.

Right, gotta take care of home stuff here but I'll turn it on later tonight.

Ps: and it comes with 300 platinum coins. Nice!

Europe got the PS1 version of FF6 in 2002. But yeah, lots of JRPGs didn't reach Europe. Not just during the SNES days, but during the PS1 days too (still waiting for Euro releases of Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana, Threads of Fate, Xenogears and others). Some PS2 (Xenosaga, Suikoden III) and DS (Radiant Historia) JRPGs too, but fortunately not many and the DS is regionfree.

While the only JRPG that was released in Europe and not in North America is pretty much just Terranigma.

Are there any really good YouTube vids covering the history, development, and all-around great retrospectives on the included games?

Also, is there any point cold-calling stores to see if they break street date? Was looking to bug a couple of Targets, but there’s probaby no point.

The manuals are just QR codes that you point your phone at.

Be careful. Not all TV's USB ports supply power consistently. Some aren't designed to supply a constant feed. Some of them turn off randomly.

^ Probably want to shrink that image a bit or link it externally.

I'm waiting for my Thinkgeek bundle to ship (charged yesterday)... I sort of regret getting it since my local Target has ~166 in stock but I could definitely see 166+ people lining up where I live.

At worst you'd get hit with a $5 restocking fee but do it, don't let them get away with that trash bundle
