The Steam equivalent of the drunk friend who keeps offering to pay your tab all night.
great, totally forgot about the kickstarter ... glad it got funded ... frm what i heard it has pretty amazing fight system

theres already an Arcana Hearts 3 game on steam that you can check out.

Heads-up, the Steam major design and feature update has to be REALLY close. There was some HUGE changes to the developer inner workings for Steam in the last couple days, they finally updated some things, added some new features, and changed the whole look of it to a new design. And this change was done somewhere in the last 48 hours as that was the last time I had checked the inner developer store pages for Steam before just now.

I can't say much more without breaking contract, but I would guess the major Steam Store update is really close.

I wouldn't be surprised if the big change shows up during the Autumn or Winter sales.

Please tell me if we will finally get an optional unlock achievement sound (without having to resort to third party tools)?

Really close..means a couple more years in Valve time.

Please be excited.

Being able to disable those notifications without having to take out all other notifications as collateral damage would be swell too.

Battletech is coming too. Why stick to piloting only one mech, when you can command the whole lance? =)

Don't you worry, Battletech is a day 1 for me as well. We were just talking about games were you actually pilot mechs, so that's why I didn't mention it. ;)

Magical fightin' girls are a-comin' to Steam (thanks to lashman for the heads up).

EDIT: One more Steam page (again thanks lashman)

Wait, there will be paid character dlcs in the future?

With the overwhelming success at the crowd-funding campaign, the stretch goals for both a new character, "Shark Girl" and a new Arcana, "Paracelsia" have been achieved and will be introduced into the game at a later date! *Will be implemented as a paid DLC for the new character.

Yeah, I noticed. In my older browser of preference 'search as you type' no longer works and owned games are not highlighted, bunch of bull.

Finished the first episode of The Long Dark last night, it's pretty good, I really like the mix of openended survival in a linear story. While mysterious I really like that the story thus far has been grounded in reality, well as much as game can.

It might be easier to play in the story mode since wolves aren't really a danger any more, but damn they really are the new "cliff racers".XD

They relaunched like 3 different times didn't they? I remember you had to sign up through their site to play the game, then it came to steam. Then it disappeared and it was early access when it came back right? I remember hearing tons of negative things about it since it was super pay 2 win, otherwise you grind for a long time to get new robots.

Damn. RIP. Loved this game - it did get more and more added to try and get some money coming in as it was f2p.

It didn't feel pay2win as the cRT was pretty good, but the Tech mech was BUUUUUUSTED. I mean, I mained the fuck out of it, but it could heal itself while hurting others and just perpetuated the murder-ball playstyle.

Sucks because the game had style.

Heard similar things on the grape vine of a store and client update. Expecting in November.

On another note, I've waited for this!

Errrr... No. Combat is nothing like SoulsBorne, Nioh's level design is very average (even Dark Souls 2 beats it), and you're going to spend a lot of time crafting items and hunting for loot-drops. Not an exaggeration to say it's a third person Diablo game with beat 'em up elements.

Fixed that for you

Seriously, everyone going "yeyyyyyy it looks/sounds like SoulsBorne", is doing what I did, and I've literally never been more disappointed in a game than I have been with Nioh. Go into it expecting the exploration, lore and combat of SoulsBorne, and you'll hate it. Go into it expecting Diablo mixed with Nier: Automata style combat, though, and I'm sure you'll love it.

(I have it on PS4.)

It's more like Souls x Ninja Gaiden x Diablo (loot elements)

You have the souls like combat but you can now style on the enemy with some flashy moves like Ninja Gaiden. There's heaps of random loot (prob a little too much) to pick up and upgrade to.

Anyone played Fran Bow and have any thoughts to share?

And I feel bad about steam messaging because people will send me a message asking about a game or something and given I have the attention of span of a gold fish they usually go unanswered unless I answer immediately.

Hm, anyone else got a random password reset mail from Uplay? It's legit. However, I use a unique password AND Google Authenticator on my phone. Seems like a system glitch but idk...

AS one that played (and got bored) the combat is not souls like.

What IS souls like are the secret "door" and the linear trash > boss > repeat.

The combat is more like NG. You get some light comboing etc.

Diablo because of crafting and loot shower. You pretty much end up crafting and farming materials.

I really don't recommend going in expecting souls combat as you will be..uh..not in the right mindset.

I dunno... This isn't aimed at you, Arbok, since I've seen lots of people says this, but I think people say "Souls-like combat" when they just mean "stressful third-person combat with a camera that isn't great". :D To me, Nioh misses what makes Souls combat fun - a specific combination of interesting enemies, weapons, and skill/precision - and trades it for flashiness and difficulty in a generic fantasy setting.

But, like I said before, Nioh was a tremendous let-down, so I may be judging it harsher than I otherwise would. *shrugs* :)

Absolutely this. The combat may be fun (I think not! but whatevs. :p ), but try and play it like a SoulsBorne and you'll die lots. And lots. And lots.

I thought the combat was grand and far more technical and interesting than Dark Souls, especially with the ki pulses but the whole loot grind aspect completely threw me off the game(reason why I never got far in Shadow Warrior 2)

Nothing puts me off a game like going into my inventory and seeing I have 9 versions of a weapon with tiny stat differences I have to squint between.

Definitely want to try to finish it this time around though, the creature and especially monster designs are incredible.

The combat is objectively a hundred times closer to Souls than to Nier: Automata, what the hell?

There are a total of zero similiarities between Nier's and Nioh's combat. Nier does not have stamina management, an item system, stances, elemetal effects, weapon durability, limited magic abilities or finishing strikes.

Nier instead got a leightweight character action combo system, rechargable magic attacks and a third person shooting element and that's it.

Like, no offense, but i just cant comprehend how someone can watch this and think it's like Nier and not like Souls

Meanwhile, this is what Automata plays like

well from what i understood Six Stars is just a "extended editon" in a vain of GG Revelator 2 to Reelator (not proto-sequel Revelator was to Sign)
so i am fine with waiting for the better version ;-)

Nioh has the best combat system in any action RPG ever. Gameplay is not very Souls-like, yes, as it's mission-based. But the combat is similar enough but with more depth.

Still my GOTY alongside Divinity OS2. I'm still not sure what should I pick as the #1. PC port quality might alter it a bit in favor of Nioh.

Yea not really Nier but I wouldn't even say souls either.

It feels superficial and light, which is why I thought of Nier. I think there's more to combat than just how it looks - there's a weight and tension to SoulsBorne combat that's missing in Nioh, and the enemies are very forgettable. I may be wrong in how close it is to Nier - freely admit that - but it lacks the punch of SoulsBorne.

As someone who has invested in soulsborne type of games and played Nioh.

Nioh is nowhere near as light as you are saying it. Though Nioh gets a bit repetitive mashing wise and doesn't have the oomph, its not as light a NieR.

Anybody has and played Feel the Snow? How is it?

What? Do you know that there are actually combos in Nioh? A thing you can't find in any Souls game in example. Nioh fight system is basically a Souls system mixed with Ninja Gaiden, I mean, you can kill enemies by using their own katana as a counter-move. Saying it's light like Nier or it's light in general is just wrong.

Yeah, playing Killer Instinct on keyboard is pain in the ass, i can't even complete combos tutorial, trying to follow help messages but i still can't do most of them after first try lol

Well I'll answer anyway ;)

I can definitely see the problems in Nioh. There is definitely not enough enemy variety and the Yokai monsters don't really reflect the theme of the level in any way, like there are some monsters that are there from the first level to the last. The monsters also don't propose enough variety of moves, though I believe the alpha was a fair bit harder and they've toned it down. It also still suffers from the souls style enemy placement where the entire level is basically a monster closet and enemy gauntlet to run through. You can just keep doing it over until you perfect it. This makes most encounters very similar especially if you kite each one individually. The setting as you say, is also somewhat generic, and the entire game pretty much is set at night giving it a limited color palette. There's also the sense that the game copy and pasted the theme onto a 'souls' game whereas in Dark Souls, the art style, level design is a whole lot more organic and cohesive. The game is also way too long and the story is ass.

However I thought they did an excellent job with the three aspects (Souls, Ninja Gaiden, Diablo), the diablo stuff was close to being addictive in me playing the game, its probably the most fun aspect. The flashy moves also open up the Souls combat in a huge way, having so many options is never bad. They also pretty made the enemy combat encounters the same as Souls if that was their intention, they did a good job. It's close to the best hand to hand combat I've played in a game.

That's fair. And actually, that's a way more detailed critique of the game than I have done. As I said/implied earlier, I think my bouncing off it so hard due to it being sold as as SoulsBorne, so I am a lot more down on it than if I'd just played it randomly, which has skewed my critical-eye on it. :)

I still hate the combat, though. :p

Not only that - but Nioh is freaking deep and layered with options in combat. And to beat the game you do need to experiement.

I'm talking base game now because I haven't played the extra DLC, but there were 5 base weapons Katana, Dual Katana, Axe/Hammer, Kusairigama, Spear. They all have different ranges and speeds.

Then you have the three different stances, low, mid, high stance which all offer different moves for every weapon. Low has better speed/agility qualities, mid is best for blocking, high stance has the strongest but longest animation attacks.

You also have various combos and moves within each weapon stance.

There is a long list of onmyo magic, traps, and buffs and debuffs with elemental powers.

With all this, there is the stamina (ki) meter where you can recharge it instantly if you time R1 allowing you to continue your attack. This is important if you want to keep attacking the enemy while they are stunned and out of ki.

You also have all these options accessible within two button presses during combat which is impressive in my book.

That's fair. And actually, that's a way more detailed critique of the game than I have done. LOL.

Yeah its something about (some) Koei Tecmo games I can't put a finger on, they can be somewhat generic in some areas, but appear to have great presentation, graphics. I think they were really ambitious with this title (its a damn long game), and they missed the mark in some areas like I said, but Team Ninja team did a good job on the actual combat mechanics themselves.

Now for the sequel I'd like to see them try some of the stuff in the Alpha demo that people have been talking about, where the enemies kept chasing you and also make the game more interesting during enemy encounters.

For anyone that wants a more in depth review of Nioh this is mine, and yes I beat the game and then wrote it, I don't know if everyone did beat it because its AT least 50-60hrs long - https://boingbb.wordpress.com/2017/06/27/nioh-ps4-review/

There is a rich kid on Steam who has around 12k Gamescom crates plus around 80 trench coats / bandadas (current market value 600€/800€ each) in his inventory.

I didn't craft and I didn't hunt for loot. I just played the missions once and moved on. Crafting and loot hunting is an option though but I would recommend avoiding both. There's a ton of content in the game, you don't need to make it even longer. It does get repetitive though, with enemies and especially the loot. You get a ton of loot of which 99% is trash for you.

Nioh was Souls enough for me to consider it as one of the better games of the year (as opposed to straight up GOTY contender with Soulsborne games). I enjoy Souls style combat and dislike everything Team Ninja had made before Nioh. For what it's worth..

It's the exact opposite for me. I can't play a 2d fighter on anything but a keyboard. I can't DP on a gamepad to save my life. Might stem from the fact that i like to do motions with my right hand.

I figured I'd install the Hat in Time beta so when the game unlocks I just have to download an update rather than the whole thing, but it seems Gears for Breakfast effectively revoked beta access by replacing the speedrun build with, uh, nothing but the executables. It doesn't really matter all that much seeing as the game is out in a couple of days, but it's still a pretty crappy thing to do.
