Considering I've actually unlocked it and he hasn't, I'd go with me on this one. (I don't mean this as any sort of slight towards ScOULaris).

Also, check my edit. Nothing he's said actually contradicts what I have. I can tell you P grades don't count towards this filter Edit - this is probably at least partially wrong...see later posts (or if they do, they absolutely are not required), as I hadn't received a single one of those before unlocking it.

That being said, I don't know the exact number of A ranks you need and we'll probably need Teeth to come in here and confirm that to know for certain.

What I meant is that P ranks might count as A ranks toward the requirement. So if I have P ranks on all six run n' gun levels, I might not need as many A ranks on boss battles as you did before you unlocked two-strip. I'll report back when I unlock it.

Of course it would be nice if we just said an exact count of how many are required, haha.

But you're literally in the exact same position I was in shortly before unlocking the filter and I had zero P ranks at the time. You should only need one or two more A- ranks to unlock it. I unlocked the filter with five A- ranks or above in World 1 (all from bosses) and either 3 or 4 from World 2 (also from bosses).

THAT BEING SAID, I won't discount the possibility I'm forgetting something about my playthrough. One thing I am absolutely certain of however is that
you do not need a single P grade to unlock the 2-Strip filter.

Yeah, but The Fork wants you to get A ranks. You can get A ranks in the Run&Gun stages. P-Rating is the best you can get in those stages, so they should count as better As.

I've been playing regular all this time, upto world 2 and accidentally selected simple and thought i'd ride it out.

Had no idea, it opened the paths...

ohhhhhhhhhh I see.

You know, there might actually be some truth to this. I didn't even think about A ranks in the run 'n gun stages. I was fixated on the idea of P ranks counting towards it, from the other post. I probably had a bunch of A ranks in those levels and didn't even realize it, as I wasn't focused on those at the time.

So yeah, that's actually a good point. If an A rank in one of those stages actually counts towards the total, I have no real idea how many you actually need to unlock the 2-Strip filter.

That's all I was trying to say. That P ranks on Run n' Gun stages also count as A ranks toward the requirement. I wasn't suggesting that P ranks are required specifically to unlock two-strip mode.

Yeah, that's where you had me lost lol

Thinking more about it, I bet A ranks or above in those levels do count. I probably had quite a few A grades in those stages at the time.

I don't think it does, I'm 100% sure I had either 1 P rank or 0 by the time I unlocked it.

god dammit, this one game has me seriously considering buying an xbox.
I don't own a pc so might buy and then sell the console once i've finished the game.
Can people please advise on any other console exclusives that i should play through quickly before i get rid of the console(no halo/gears/forza please).
I swore i would never buy a xbox ever again after having 4 360's break and microsoft kept sending me back dodgy ones but this game looks too good to pass up.

Ori and the Blind Forest, Sunset Overdrive are both incredible games.

Finally completed the first Island, a major headache and a nervous break down, wet armpits and shaking hands later. How do people play this game for so long, I can't even see straight anymore after a boss or two.

...are the ones that immediately come to mind. There are "lesser" games like Quantum Break and Ryse that I would recommend a playthrough of, especially how cheaply they can be picked up for these days, but that I wouldn't consider essential.

Soon to be Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, which is huge for non PC owners.

Forza Horizon 3...I know you said no Forza games, but I think it's worth a mention as...not a fan of driving games, this game was one of the most pure fun games I've ever played. I tried regular Forza last year and it just didn't hook me. But Horizon 3 is...bliss.

I'd say that Forza Horizon 3 is the best exclusive game on Xbox One, and I don't play many racing games outside of the "Mario Kart" variety. Cuphead is a pretty close runner up for me.

I had a lot of fun with Dead Rising 3 as well at the launch of the Xbox One, liked it a lot more than DR4. Sunset Overdrive was also a blast and can probably be gotten for like $5 nowadays.

Does it make a significant load time difference whether this game is installed to the SSD or HDD? For recent 3D games I install them to my SSD but it's getting full atm and the game is 2D so wondering how the loading times would fare on a hard drive.

I wished the P rank wouldn't have replaced my A+, now can't remember where I got As.. why can't it just be A+ & P or something?

All expert bosses down with at least A ranks. Gonna take a break from the game for a bit. Will get the remaining S ranks later. KD on Expert was probably the hardest for me to A-Rank, but the bird wasn't too easy either.

maybe Kalimba (couch co-op) or D4, there's definitely nothing else in the same ballpark as Cuphead

Ori and the Blind Forest is a must play and it has a sequel launching next year.

I also think Quantum Break is worth playing through, despite its issues.

2-Strip-Filter!

I unlocked it at my 15th A-rank :)

Edit: Haha, yeah, and I unlocked the B&W-filter. Thought I'd give Rugged Ridge another try and I managed to get past the walls and to the Cyclop for the first time on a Pacifist-run and I nailed that section perfectly.

Unlocking these filters was my end game priority. I'm very happy now xD

Sadly, the Ori sequel is really all I really have to look forward to now as far as XB1 console exclusives go.

Thanks for the help.
I'm looking at picking up the cheapest second hand xbox i can, nothing else on the system really looks good to me other than sunset overdrive and Ori....what happened to you rare :-(
If i can get one for really cheap i might hold on until the Ori sequel and then give the system as a gift to my brother.Really wish cuphead was out of other systems but at least it got made, really pleased to see people put so much effort into this kind of animation.

fuck, i miss only the final boss in rank A, i was sure i would get rank A since i've got yellow rank for everything except HP, like every other boss, but i've only got B+ on this one... wonder why

Finally was able to sit down and start this last night.

Played a couple hours and just made it to Isle 3. I'm curious to see Expert now, because I think I let my expectation of the difficulty get a little too high off all the posts I've been reading. Cuphead is definitely challenging, but super fair so far. Haven't felt frustrated at all, and haven't really hit any roadblocks. Fountain thing says I'm at 48 deaths so far. Been using a combination of Chaser and Lobber, and that seems to be going good.

Hardest boss so far for me was
flying chicken guy? (Don't remember names)
Think that level took me 10-15 tries for some reason. I don't like the
airplane levels
very much.

That said, I'm liking this game a lot. Looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

They spell out all the buttons for DS4 regardless if you have an Xbox controller plugged in. It's classy as hell, but I also noticed that it causes text to overlap (may have been patched by now).
