Fitness |OT9|...You looked better before

Sounds interesting even though it's a split program. Sadly it's a 5-day-routine. I can only go 3 times a week the gym.

Yea but what I'm saying is, you are experienced enough that you can take an idea like high rep german volume, and fashion it to your needs.

So for 3 days you could have like:
Monday 10x10
-Bench
-Dips
-OHP

Wednesday 10x10
-Row
-Pull up
-Farmer Carries

Friday 10x10
-Squat
-Hinge

Boom ez program, ez life. Don't make it more complicated than it is man. You just need to lift things up, then put them down.

You forgot the decimal between the 2 and the 4...2.4 hours, while long, is well within your grasp!

That would be the longest ride I've done in nearly two months... there's no guarantee. lol

Where's Brolic? SpiritReaver?

Brolic doesn't post much any more, got a bit fucked off with the bullshit in the thread. Still pops his head in to talk about ridiculous lifts he's doing from time to time.

SpiritReaver fell off the wagon. I forget exactly, but I think he might have had a bit of an issue with depression.

Yeah, Brolic is quiet most of the time. He just shows up and posts some huge lifts.

He's silent, but deadly.

With my weight I still dunno how hard I should hit cardio. I want more stamina but I need to keep my calories high enough as is.

FE the beast. All the old school guys coming back together. Love it!

You know I'm scared to ask what your daughter is DLing right now.

Did 3x5 BW+32.5 chinups tonight for a new PR, and at a nice fat 205. Imagine if I was 30lbs lighter, where I should be. It is time! Need to be slimmer in time for Thanksgiving.

She's about the same. 235 max with sets of 200-205 for 3 on heavy days. She did hit 130x6 for squats in her weight training class the other week. I have a daughter in high school now. Still crazy to say.

Fitgaf is best when you eat 10K calories and maintain 10% bodyfat. You've always been a great motivator for me and I'm looking forward to the push again!

Haha. Those days be a comin. Yeah, this place is an extremely positive thing in my life. I was always happier in general when I was active.

so there's 3 McFit gyms (a German chain of gyms) in my city and I just realized after years that one is on my way back home after work on mondays and tuesday and woah it's like day and night.

Better and more equipment, serious lifters everywhere, be it for aesthetics or strength, way friendlier atmosphere (guys talking to each other), it really inspires me. It's amazing what a change of air can make for motivation.

last monday I say a guy do the heaviest bench press ever, something like 150 kg, ridiculous and 3-4 reps... I was like..daaamn, he's easily the strongest bench presser in this gym.

Whew, it feels like Ocean's 11 in here with all the old timers getting together for one big score.

I'm in! :O

EDIT: Hi there cooter and everyone else who wasn't around lately :) hope you guys are doing well

Teach me you eating ways lol.

Haha it was mostly cooter, who is absolutely bonkers (although a lot of us did a less insane version). The "cooter protocol" is basically running low calorie days throughout the week with one uncanny cheat day. Crazy thing is...it works. Hoping coot brings it back.

I'm in! :O

How you been? Still trying to balance work, piano and fitness?

Damn, that's a bummer. Spirit, if you're reading this hit me up with a PM!

I'm still here boys. I lurk this thread almost entirely now, but I post now and again to help out new people. Thanks for the love. It's been a rough ride, but I finally got help for my issues and things are better now, not great, but definitely better.

Yall aren't alone with life getting in the way of gains. Honestly, it's comforting to see we're not alone in that.

Sappycrappy post aside. I'm glad to see you both in here. Plus that vid of Cooter is A+ motivation material. We should swap old fitness videos and lament more about old times. :p

So I'm getting real tired of calluses showing up on my hands when I grip the pull up bar (or barbelll). What can I do to stop that shit from happening?

Hey GAF, been having very slight shoulder irritation and would appreciate some recommendations on how some of you with more knowledge/experience think I should proceed. I'm a 29 year old extreme novice lifter. I've been lifting for about 3-4 months consistently 3-4 times a week using Jason Blaha's Novice Program.

A week ago after completing a 3x8 skull crushers routine I was experiencing a bit of a burn on my left shoulder. It wasn't painful or anything but definitely noticeable. Now every time I go to the gym I get that same burn while doing the Barbell Rows or Overhead Presses, and today that burn also occurred after my sets of dumb-bell bench presses.

The burn isn't so bad that it prevents me from completing the workout or stop me form doing any other daily activities, but it isn't normal either since my right shoulder doesn't experience any of this. I've been lowering the weights of any exercise that might involve the use of my shoulder like the barbell rows, skullcrushers, standing press, and bench press to focus 100% on form. But I'm not sure if I should be taking this more serious and see a doctor. I'd like to hear anyone else's advice regarding this. Someone brought up that I should start doing 5x20 Face Pulls prior to every workout. Thanks in advance.

Look up tendonitis. If that sounds right, RICE protocol for 5 days. Don't lift if you don't have to as it will only make it worse. See a doctor if your pain doesn't improve after 5 days.

I did some reading about it. The irritation only comes during and after a workout, but it does seem like I may make things worse if I keep going. Thanks for the input.

We back baby! So good to see you Spirit. We are definitely not alone. Please stay close. Not saying you need to post a ton but be ready in case a passionate quads debate erupts.

And Sphinx?! How are you? Hope all is well bud. Next up, Mr. Brolic Gaoler.

It's better to file calluses though, unless you want them getting ripped off (which is really uncomfortable, especially when you then use liquid chalk).

I'm wanting to find out how much i can work out without over training. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

For the last two years i've been doing roughly 50 minutes workouts once a day, 6 days a week.

I'm wanting to know if i could do a few extra 20 or 30 minute workout in the afternoon or if that would do more harm than good.

I'm 28 and dont take drugs.

I, mean, are you physical during your day job, too? Because machinist, construction/contractor/sub-contractors, dancers, gardeners/landscapers, firefighters, athletes, mdsfx, etc. are active throughout the entire day.

I repair furniture, usually standing up but nothing even close to a construction worker. Energy isnt a problem, i'm just not educated on how over training works and want to make sure that im not doing so much that my body cant properly grow muscle.

Pretty neato to see a lot of the old FitGAFers posting again.

So I'm getting real tired of calluses showing up on my hands when I grip the pull up bar (or barbelll). What can I do to stop that shit from happening?

File them down with a pumice stone or callus remover. Moisturize your hand. If you use chalk, wash your hands thoroughly when you're completely done because it can cause dryness in your hands. You can search for YouTube videos on hand and callus care.

Lifting for strength for the next couple months. Today’s numbers:

Squat: 3 reps of 315 (2)
Bench: 3 reps of 225 (2)
OHP: 5 reps of 135

Goal: 405 Squat for 1, 500 DL, 315 Bench, 165 OHP.

Lookup heart rate variability. It's one of only a handful of ways to get an idea if you're overtraining or not.

In reality though, unless you're doing massive amounts of cardio, or frying your CNS with constant low reps to failure, you're probably fine.

I had a streak of 70 straight days weight training a couple years ago. I was 36 so you'll be fine. There is such thing as over training but IMO it's over blown.

Got in my third day in a row today. Not a terrible workout, either. We eatin.

Thataboy! Keep your wife away from FitGaf. Bum is training hard again. No marriage is safe.

First off, that streak was EPIC. I vaguely remember doing like 10-12 straight during that time and tapped out. I believe you are a descendant of an alien race or at least part alien.

And lol, I wouldn't say we're there quite yet, BUT momentum has shifted and that's half the battle. I'm looking forward to working out again.
