PAL Charts - Week 40, 2017

People said the same about SFV, and look what what happened when it was actually released.

"PlayStation owners have been waiting on a new GT"

Nah, I believe GT is nowhere as popular as it was in previous gen, mostly because GT6 happened. Like we've seen multiple times recently, all what's needed is one underwhelming entry to ruin a franchise (Halo, Gears, Assassin's Creed, Watch dogs...)

Hopefully at least you won't bet on it. I don't think your tag can take it.

Shoutout to Crash with that hold too!

GT6 was released on PS3, after PS4 had launched, trying to base GTS sales on GT6 is foolish in my opinion. If you'll notice anything from that chart, the first iteration of GT on a PS console sales extremely well, with a big drop on the second release.
I'm basing it more on how racers have sold this gen.

I was thinking about how weird it was that Shadow of War is coming out next week yet I've seen no marketing for it at all so far.

It turns out it's releasing tomorrow.

I'm sure it'll do fine, but will possibly be under the first game.

GTS is not going to sell like GT5. It's simply impossible. GT6 LTD would be a great result ( >5 ML ). More than that would be amazing.

Yup, no marketing at all here in the UK - can’t imagine it debuts better then the first.

So FIFA Switch doesn't even have legs? Or is it still hard to find?
Seems like a massive flop if it's not hard to find.

I think GT Sport does around 60K. Far from it's peak, but better than GT6 and not completely terrible considering how dead sim racers are at the moment.

GT is a series traditionally sold on having cutting-edge visuals. A premise that's hard to support when it comes out on 7 year old console hardware and a month after its successor system has come bursting out of the gates into market leadership!

Transition between PS3 and PS4 was in no way the same situation as previous generations due to the extended duration of the 7th gen, offering almost a clean break compared to the more gradual transitions of the past. GT6 was a major casualty of this.

GT:S is in a weird place. It's really quite hard to place any bets at all.

Pros:
- First Gran Turismo on the PS4 and first 'big name' racing sim as well
- Very heavy marketing push from Sony (had an ad before BR: 2049 the other day which was quite surprising)
- Good demo bringing more people into the game

Cons:
- Not a mainline GT, uclear what exactly it is to regular consumers
- Overall decline in racing sim sales this generation
- Being released in a very busy holiday season
- Not as big a graphical showcase as GT5 was last gen

I'm going to place a bet on 10k copies sold. GTS will stand for Gran TSar Bomba.

Not really

Have you played it on PS3/360? If you have, fair enough. If you haven't, then you're missing out on a great game.

I did on PS3 but not for too long. I just don't like buying cheap last-gen ports like this on principle unless it's heavily discounted; 60fps on an MT Framework game should have been incredibly easy for modern consoles to handle. I'll eventually buy it on PC when I have a decent one of those again, though.

Gran Turismo - 44,000
Gran Turismo 2 - 115,000
Gran Turismo 3 - 74,000
Gran Turismo 4 - 253,000
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - 108,000
Gran Turismo 5 - 269,000
Gran Turismo 6 - 55,000

I'll go 65k for GTS.

There was no need for GT6, and GT Sport is very low on content for £45. Sure GT5P was but that was incredible at the time, I don't think GTS has the same impact and it's too little too late, 4 years late where as GT5P was out in a year of PS3. I predict UK and Germany
will down on GT5P and GT5, the two biggest markets in Europe.

Yea, I'm not expecting GTS to pull above 100k. I'd be really impressed if it somehow manages to do so, despite that result being really poor compared to past entries as well.

Anyone predicting above 100k for GTS is a little loony imo.
Hardcore racers are a hard sell these days but the GT brand name should help with a solid debut considering the racing climate.

I'll predict about 70k.

how much Sony is marketing GTS in UK? Can any resident of UK tell us about it?

Tons of ads on Skysports.
Bus ads and at train stations too.

Agreed 50-70K is a pretty safe bet. GT is still the biggest sim racer on consoles, and more importantly it is the first release this gen, but no one can say with any certainty what the sim market entails anymore. Anyone who is guessing over 100k is doing so based solely on pedigree.

Forza Horizon is a gold mine for Microsoft, they can just continue introducing new cool locations and it will keep selling in good numbers. Meanwhile with FM it's not so easy especially since they "have to" release a new game once every two years. They want to please arcade and simarcade fans at the same time (hardcore sim fans are long gone) and also it feels like they've gone quite lazy. In FM7 we got only a handful of never seen before cars and only one brand new location. Even the new "exciting" dynamic weather and time of day feature is limited only to selected tracks. I don't regret buying FM7, but I'm a big fan of the series and an enthusiast of racing games in general, I can see a lot of people skipping FM7 or waiting for a big sale.

GT6 launch was really bad compared to GT5, but it still managed to sell more than 5 million units on a PS3 after PS4 was released. It's still very impressive imo. I can see GTS launching at around 80k in UK and perform well over time.

I must say, GTS looks insane.

They will sell a lot of copies because of those graphics (and good marketing from Sony ;)), especially with how the game looks great on standard PS4 as well. Pleasing more demanding players may be more difficult with the (in some cases extremely) lackluster cars, tracks and modes lists.

Thanks a bunch. Thats one hell of a drop for GT6. GTS should be doing 250k+ but there's no way thats happening. I'm guessing 150k.

It's not happening and you're all setting yourselves up for "bomba" post when it doesn't come close to that. The climate for racing games is different; the climate for Gran Turismo games is different.

It'll do about the same as Gran Turismo 6 in the UK, and anything more will be a bonus IMO.

Yeah. Its kind of eye opening that GT5 opened at 270k and the PS4's biggest exclusive, UC4, opened at 190k. I'll go with 100k but find it hard to guess tbh.

Buses, train stations, cinema ads, tv ads before F1 and other motorsports.

I'm in he ~50k range for Sport. Don't think the audience for these kind of racers are there anymore as opposed to the past

GTS I think will open over 100k. The franchise is a lot stronger than people give it credit for and the PS4 has been a monster this year.

I think a proper GT7 would do really well, but GTS is too just little too late - it really needed to be out 3 years ago.

I'm going with 80K for GT Sports and that's being optimistic.

Anyone predicting above 100k for GTS is a little loony imo. Hardcore racers are a hard sell these days but the GT brand name should help with a solid debut considering the racing climate.

Definitly my guess as well.

I've seen TV spots, Outdoor, Press Ads and Online Display. They are going all in on it, hence the reason I think it will sell big numbers in it launch week.

Forza 7 on the other hand has had no marketing push so far in the UK, well none that I've seen anyway. Which is actually really surprising.

EDIT: Since we are guessing numbers, ill go with 115k for GTS in the UK.

The main thing keeping me away from getting a Switch is the overpriced eShop. €70 for a game compared to €55-60 on retail is fucking terrible, and Nintendo games never go on a sale. I don't want to carry around carts with a portable system.

Weird.
In Denmark the eshop games are usually cheaper than retail. Unless we talk 3rd party. They always intendt to put the highest price possible on eshop

Jesus, new Forza barely beating last year's entry on the chart. When was the last time we saw something like that happen?

As soon as the casuals catch wind of the lack of content in GTS its done.

Just like they did after seeing the lack of content in Rainbow 6 Siege and Overwatch, am I rite?

Seriously this wave of "lack of content" either show a complete lack of understanding of what Gran Turismo Sport actually is or people still trying to believe this is GT7 with another name.

Fifa 18 Switch is charting everywhere around the world and among the most popular titles in eshop. Unless EA is retarded or holding an agenda against Nintendo, they'll not only keep Fifa (with Frostbite engine) as improve support for Switch.

FIFA 18 Switch is charting behind the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions around the world. Maybe they should work on getting the Frostbite versions on the PS3?

while FM7 has obv had a fairly disappointing launch, one thing that is standing out for me is that Microsoft has 2 first party titles in the top 3 - when was the last time that happened? Must have been a while.

Game is more then a month old now. Gets "beaten" by a new game, a game wich is sold with every Xbox nowadays and FIFA wich just game out and is FIFA in the UK.
People trying to downplay the game just throw shit to the wall to see what sticks.
