Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

Clint I'd appreciate you actually working behind the counter on the day I was supposed to pick up that pickaxe, thanks.

Made a bunch of bundle progress recently but I guess I'm going to have to try again in the summer to get that sturgeon, because there's no way on earth I'm catching that thing at my current fishing level.

Relationships feel pretty surface-level so far, but maybe marriage will be more interactive. Also, is
a heavily implied sex scene
normal for other bachelor(ette)10 heart events or is that just a
Sam
thing? Because I wasn't expecting that.

Anyway those are the impressions of someone who was initially disliking this but is now in full "sucked in please send help" mode.

Good deal...

All of the paths seem pretty decent math-wise, though if you really don’t want to specialize in animals (it doesn’t have to be the only thing you do) you should just restart. You are basically nowhere in overall progression.

I think I’ll just try out the animal farm. Seems like it’s a never-ending game, so I can take my time and learn how to function as both a rancher and farmer. I feel like I’ve made to many (personal) decisions that wouldn’t happen again if I restarted, haha.

Also, do you ever get a chance to
get strawberries
besides the Spring Festival? Went in broke as a joke and felt like an idiot for not having any money.

I swear this game is actively avoiding rain so that I can't upgrade my watering can. I've been waiting well over two weeks, yet nothing.

On the bright side, my crops + animals + regular fishing/mining is giving me well over 1000 money every day. Feels good to be rich.

I had a summer with like 1 days of rain in the first 3 weeks, on my current save (started over for several reasons) I had 3 days of storms in the first 11 days 🤷*♂️

Was weird, but I went hard on getting everything done in the mines by a little way into summer so I have quality sprinklers now and don't need to do much watering

For the people playing it for the very first time, how are you enjoying it? How accessible/difficult are you finding it? Are there any major issues you’re having that hamper your enjoyment?

Just got it last night, I have no idea what I'm really supposed to be doing but I am farming and selling and just having a great time talking to people. In that aspect I am having a lot of fun. It seems very accessible considering I never played any Harvest Moon games, either.

Only found out recently that you can charge up the upgraded watering can. ¬_______¬

How?

it is pretty accessible and addicting, it is a slow grind if you are not using a guide. A decent challenge.

I have a few save files, I started a new file to test cheats I see on youtube to see if the Switch version has them, so I've been playing with the cheat file for a while to see how far I get without lacking money so if you like an easier run there are plenty of secrets to make it easier

you can also use a wiki

I think the regular game is a nice challenge just love cheats

One cheat that breaks the game:
changing your name to number codes of the most valuable items in the game each time a villager says your name you get those items

He and Maru are in the lab working, when Maru asks me to help out. She has to step out for a bit to get something, leaving me and Demetrius alone. He thanks me for helping and says that she's a good girl, followed by "I wouldn't want anything getting in the way of her bright future. Know what I mean?" And when Maru comes back, he tells her we were talking about the soil samples we were working on while she was gone.

Like, wtf?

Hold down the tool button and it will highlight a larger target area. If you've done multiple upgrades, it will cycle through multiple area sizes. If I remember correctly, a line of 3 tiles, a line of 5 tiles, and a 3x3 tile area.

This also works with the upgraded hoe.

There's a worse scene where

From copper onwards you can hold the use button to extend the range. (3 squares for copper)

Figured it worked with the hoe too. Just didn't think to try holding the button and I've played most of the Harvest Moon series for fuck's sake.

The mayor and Marnie are both single. The mayor just wants it taken care of discreetly because he has weird hangups about relationships.

Caroline totally cheated on Pierre with the wizard though. Several things point towards Abigail being the wizard's daughter.

From what Caroline said to me, the whole wizard thing happened before Pierre, since she said she used to visit the tower a lot before she met him. My guess is that she didn’t know who the father was by the time she found out she was pregnant and just decided to not tell Pierre about the wizard at all.

Definitely a few unexpected topics in this game, haha.

About halfway through summer in my second year. Operation “mighty ducks” is about in full swing after choosing Coopmaster, making something like 10,000 per day at this point. Will probably propose to Penny on her birthday now that I can upgrade my house so it is fit for a family.

Once I finish off the community center stuff (which is in dire need of some fishing to be done mostly) I will only be doing crops to work on some harcore cooking. There is a surprising amount of recipes to play with.

Ok is this game something you can put a little bit a time in here and there... similar to a way like Animal Crossing? Or can you literally just keep growing and expanding etc..

Either way to be honest. Its not in real time so each day only lasts about 15 minutes of real time.
There is a soft time limit of 3 years but the game doesn't end so you have as much time as you want to put in.

Perfect for lunch breaks and no way to "fuck up" like in some of the Harvest Moon games.

best way to start off really is to chop plenty of trees, sell wood and sap (or maybe keep sap) and use the money to plant your first potatoes

A small tip that I didn't realize until mid summer, some of the packages have optional selections for completion. For instance there's one that shows 4 items but only requires 2 of the 4 to complete.

Makes some of the harder looking ones easier!

The Crab one in particular gives you a huge selection. Most of it is just stuff you can find on the beach.

Does anyone else's "Initiation" quest not appear to be working? I've killed dozens of slimes and have gotten to the 20th floor of the mines but my quest log still says 0 of 10 slimes slain.

This..I've killed countless but nothing has happened.

Tbh fishing would be better. You eventually need a really large amount of wood to make basically everything, plus when it's useless you can turn it into coal.

problem with fishing is that it's a bit too minigame based, basically going for an effortless route

Unless you're building your coop in the dead of Winter, you don't really need the Silo first. Just let your chickens roam free on your farm, it's chill. But yeah, you shouldn't go too long without a Silo or else rain will getcha.

The Mines has phases. 1-40 is caves and has mostly copper. 41-80 (I think it's 80. Around there anyway) is frozen and has mostly copper. 80+ is magma and has mostly gold.

40 more Levels of COPPER?

I can only do 5 levels per day unless I'm hunting for the ladder only. But that kind of kills the whole point.

Isn't there a way to have a light on you without losing it when you switch weapons? I have a torch but it's useless.

Item management is a real pain in the ass in this game. This game is great, but there are so many small things that just bring the overall experience down. Please tell me there are gonna be bigger chests later on in the game. I'm about to make my 7th chest.

Here's a protip for farming copper/iron, if you want:

Take the elevator down to floor 20, take the ladder down to 21, quickly scan for copper or enemies you want to kill. Mine the copper, then take the elevator back up to the surface. Rinse and repeat. If you find stairs down to 22 while you mine copper or kill enemies, you can take that too, the idea is just to QUICKLY scan for relevant loot/enemies and then reset the room by going to the surface. I can get 200 copper or so on a good day if I spend most of the day in there doing this.

Floor 60 works best for this for iron and coal since you can farm the dust bunnies while doing this as well.

I am only level 2 in fishing but it doesn't seem like fishing bring that much money for the time spent verses farming. Or is it just because of the lower level and it get much better as you level up?
It's a nice side activity that can bring in some cash at the start.

Its pretty much how the Harvest Moon series kicked off.

"Farming? Pass. How the hell could that be fun."
*2 days later*
"...Oh thats how."

I'm already middle of summer year 2 o_o

This game has been a good distraction. It's been fun avoiding any tips and just slowly figuring everything out

The crashes upon sleep, before save, are pretty devastating.. hopefully that's sorted before too long. I've had nearly 10 I'd say

Yeah, I've leveled up my skills as well as have the best fishing rod so far with bait. Is there anything beyond the 1800 G one? I imagine so later on. About 10 days into summer and rolling in the cash now along with 40 plants going. The claims of addiction are real, lol.

I have been waiting for almost a season for a rabbit's foot to drop off my rabbits. It has been the last thing needed to complete the community center for a while now.
