I bought a used Rift to use with this game. After getting it to run at 90+ fps on my overclocked GTX 1070 and 1.2SS i found out it isn't for me.

I'm having trouble getting over the pixelated picture.
I don't like how it's uncomfortable (compared to not wearing a headset).
The heat and marks on my face after 1+ hour of driving is not exectly brilliant.

It was really immersive in the beginning, but you kinda get used to it, and then just focus on the driving, if you know what I mean? I'm not even faster with the Rift.

Nah, I'm selling it again and going back to my 1440p 144Hz IPS G-sync screen.

Maybe I made up my mind to early, but I don't think it will change.

Hopefylly next generation HMD's will up the resolution and comfort while reducing the weight.
Interesting..! Personally I struggle to go back to a 2D display for racing now after getting a Rift, as 2D feels like such a restricted and downgraded experience compared to VR. I totally forget about the lower resolution while immersed, and I normally game in 4k.

Fun fact: I cricked my neck ducking to the side during a high-speed crash today at RA. VR still gets me like that occasionally. I think it's incredible.

My experience/opinion is closer to ValfarHL's - the hardware is still getting in the way (uncomfortable, makes me slower), but I enjoy it enough to keep doing it. I believe it boils down to the strength of presence, which varies significantly between individuals - clearly it is working more effectively on you, Mascot! Some people feel barely any presence at all in VR - even the next generation improvements might not solve it for everyone...

2:01 doable, I suspect Mr Tidgney will get it.

I'm not on that leaderboard page, am I using the wrong car or something? How exactly do you do when starting a race like that?

Is there a way to go back to earlier tiers in the career? I just did a looonnnggggg slog of rallycross races (man does that drag on) and wanted to go back and do the other classes before moving to the faster stuff but everything is now locked? Cheers

It did it on PC with a wheel. It seems like you dislike the gamepad support, but you are effectively criticising the physics - which are separate things. As far as I know, the PCARS2 physics engine is identical on all platforms. I understand the console versions didn't get the loose/stable setup presets, but this has little effect on the the inherent balance of the cars. I would be surprised if the Huracan and R8 handled differently on PS4...

The gamepad suport works the same for every car and I'm OK with the setup that I've found (from redit). But as similar as the R8 and Huracan should be they are not- with the base setup of the R8 there is no way on earth you can make trough eau rouge flatout(and you should) while the Huracan with 0 down force at the front can make it every lap.

Had a lot of fun doing the community time trial. I'm not too aware of what cars and track combos can be fun so having a pre made one takes that part out for me. I'm a noob but really enjoy improving lap times in this game.

I've never driven manual but am determined to learn how to do it well for these sims since I now have a wheel and shifter. Started terrible yesterday on this one and got 2:28 as my best complete lap. Tried it more today and brought it down to 2:17. Know it's not close to the best but I'm happy that I've improved and I feel like I could cut it down more if I had more time to try. Lots of fun.

I for sure will be keeping up with doing these community events.

They're a great way to get to know new tracks/cars. I usually hate Bathhurst (probably because I've never bothered to learn the track properly) but I've had fun doing this challenge and learning the track properly for once. I actually enjoy lapping it now - it's edge of the seat stuff but when you nail the downhill sections my god is it satisfying.

Either you're making inaccurate observations, or the PS4 version of the game is broken.

I just tried the R8 LMS with an Xbox One gamepad (on PC), using the default controller settings. No driver aids apart from automatic gearbox (I'm not used to driving with a gamepad, so I didn't want to be distracted by shifting). I was flat through Eau Rouge/Raidillon on both loose and stable baseline setups. On my second attempt, I hit a few corner posts during the outlap, giving me 14% front damage. Even with reduced front downforce, I was still flat through there...

I figured out what the coloured band next to your online rating meant. It's an indicator of total time spent online. I got bronze after around 10 hours of multiplayer.

There is something clearly up with the PS4 version.

Out of the box, the pad handling is OK, as soon as you change something it becomes extremely sensitive, and even if you return to default settings, the sensitivity stays.

This is reinforced by people saying that if they switch to tilt steering and back to ls steering, they lose this sensitivity, although for me the only way to get it back is to delete the settings files.

Fair enough, but coiler says he's 'OK' with the controller settings. He was making physics observations. The R8 and Huracan handling characteristics are very similar, and he's claiming they are not. He says he can go flat through Eau Rouge in the Huracan, but not in the R8. If that's true, there is surely a bug with the R8 in particular on PS4, not a general controller issue causing the problem. If the controller settings were so messed up, it would be impossible to take flat in the Huracan too.

Could you give it a try?

Finished the challenge at 2.04.230.

Would run some more because it only made sense to me after fixing the terrible oversteer in the quarry turn.

Is there any way to share the settings used in the community events? I took a radical approach and changed a bunch of stuff, making the car stiffer.

Its interesting because the combo is all about being confortable, and not pushing 100% of the car.

If this is true you can set up in a way that you feel confortable, so the setup might not be the fastest but it allows you to be consistent.

I get what you're saying. Bathurst isn't really a track where you can push 100% on in any car, let alone a RWD V8 monster that wheelspins gears 1 through to 3. It's one of those tracks where you need to take a more alanced approach because any single mistake and it's race over.

I'm a little annoyed that multiplayer disconnects penalise you 50 points. Last week I got disconnected and it dropped my performance rating to 1467. After a number of races I clawed back up to 1500 when I got disconnected again and dropped me back to 1450.

It's not really a dealbreaker, but I can't help but feel a little envious of other players who have a 1600+ performance rating. At least my safety rating got upgraded to A.

Aha okay, still morning here but I'll go at it tonight then, I shall at least shave it off to 2:25 (lol) before giving up on this ;p

Why do some cars handle well while others are really difficult to control, as they spin out constantly when you rev them.

Best method to clean up the jaggies in pc? They are very distracting and most of the AA options don't do a good job imo.

How's pCARS 2 selling at the moment? Have any total sales figures been released yet?

Not great if you look at the numbers on Steam. No idea on console numbers but I don't think it set the charts alight in the UK either :/

To be honest I don't really care as long as it's good enough for them to keep improving this one, make a sequel and have a healthy enough population on leaderboards/online. It's not as if I'm due a payout this time :p

Wasn't it in march? Autumn in Australia, track temperature ~30C (32??)

Track temps were 31C when I was running it the other day and I was using present day settings. Maybe it changes day to day!

I'd love to see the 'to fix' list.....

I wonder just what impact the lack of sales might have on future products, obviously without concrete numbers including digital, it's pie in the sky, but I think it's safe to guess that the state PC1 released in would have had a detrimental impact on sales on PC2, and the state that PC2 released in, at least on console, would probably have an impact on sales of PC, or whatever it might be called.

Hopefully they can pull a rabbit out of the hat and make PC2 the game that the underlying core deserves.

I'm just a little worried that a combo of poor sales and the lengthy (and expensive) pain-in-the-ass period of patching and bug-hunting might spell the end for the franchise, especially if SMS's Fast & The Furious series does well. It has to be one hell of a lot easier and more predictable to make an arcade game than it is to make a sim.

Maybe there was truth in Ian's recent comments about the next pCARS being a much simpler, more focused track racer, but GTR3 already has that one covered. I can possibly see them following the RaceRoom model with drip-fed content that's properly tested.

I'd love to think that it'll be properly fixed, but then I look at pCARS after a year's worth of patches and it's evident that some bugs are buried deep in the DNA.

Thank God for Assetto Corsa and its many mods. I've easily got a year's worth of content there that I'm only now starting to explore properly.

I honestly hope that this time SMS can do a better job on patching the bugs than last time. And thats the only reason why I didnt return my game yet.

What would folks like to do for the next Hotlap Challenge? Should we just pick another from the ones that SMS has created, or create our own? If it's the latter, requests would be welcome as I haven't done much content exploring yet.

It looks like the two open ones are "Fuji Speedway Duel" (Oreca 03 Nissan @ Fuji), and "V12 LMR Texan Style" (BMW V12 LMR @ Texas MS infield).

Kind of meh, but OK. We could certainly come up with something more creative if we chose to. The SMS issued ones are dead simple to participate/administrate, however.

Let me know what you think.

Something else, something out of left field, how about Mitsubishi Lancer at an Rx track, something like that.

Falling that, a fast road car at Algarve is fun.

Im guessing very bad.

Yesterday i counted 116 people online after i was absolutely frustrated with GTS and tried to find something online to race.

Out of those 116 people probably 80 were racing gt3 cars and 60 of them were racing the ferrari 488.

Im mad because this might be a problem for pcars 3 and for pushing for realism in general.

Even in the supposed hardcore pc crowd lots of players are struggling with group c and other challenging cars, which means all this push for realism, details and different things might be a moot point because theres no market for it.

Look at ac or raceroom online, its a ghost Town and the hope was that pcars could change it.

I guess people just want the shiny graphics of forza and gt with little to none substance.

This is a mini rant about sales, but im just pissed of that the market for these games is smaller than i had imagined.

The texas one is cool and will give some close times, might be fun. Lots of setup involved.

Out of the SMS events, I'm fine with either. I would like to suggest the KTM X-Bow road version on Brands Hatch GP.

Yay, down to 2:24.790 just now! ;P

I don't get how you guys do it, the car spins out so easily and the brakes makes me loose the grip too very often, I'm guessing it's the way down through all the small turns where you've find a way to keep the speed up but I think it's super hard. It's annoying to sit on the "wrong" side of the car too. Still a ton of fun though, I haven't even touched the campaign yet, pretty much just time trial on this track, and I still love the game! :)

For the next hotlap I really hope for a racecar, not a production thing and preferably RWD and not GT3. Track should be something a little easier to handle on a controller (I imagined the Bathurst one to be extra tricky without a wheel).

As far as interesting combinations go. I thought the GT-86 on All-Terrain tires but driving on a regular track was easy but interesting - it has just the right amount of power to get the rear out a little bit on those tires. Sadly we can't control what tires people will have on their cars as far as I know.

If we're throwing out race car suggestions, how about the IndyCar at Road America? It's a classic combination, I wouldn't be surprised if SMS does that combo for an event.

I didnt do many races or hotlaps on this track in PC1, but I played a multi-class race last night at Zolder, and I really like that track. Some slow chicanes, and some quick sweeping corners and some minor elevation changes.

Just had an amazing online race at Snetterton 200 in Ginetta G40 Juniors. The top eight were nose to tail for the first 3 laps, it was like Jarno Trulli himself was leading the race. It probably would have been the entire 18 car field running nose to tail if it weren't for some maniac splitting the field in half in a crash. I was poised to finish 6th but I ran wide on the final turn. These Ginettas are some good fun to race.

It´s awesome under the right conditions. After playing the GTS demo i only had time for two races tonight, but they were good.

A win with the Clio cup car in a 10 lapper around Snetterton 200 and a 2nd place in Laguna Seca in the always awesome Caterham 620r.

I´m online every night these days, i´ll try to put up a Gaf lobby on the PC version so we can try a couple of different classes.

I haven´t even tested half the cars, sometimes i feel like i end up playing the same cars and classes everytime.

I found this combo to be a good mix of fun, charisma, and difficulty. A short lap in a surprisingly reasonably car. Hopefully it'll appeal to just about everyone, and encourage lots of laps. The car has a lot of understeer in it, so being patient is key. I'll be curious to see how much we can fix that, and what it will do to the lap times.

I'm the only person to have set a time with this combo, so let's fill it up with Gaffers.

Yeah I thought the console patches would have hit by now. Wasn't it early last week that Ian Bell said it would be a few days? Or did I miss it?
Not sure, the official forums are a bloodbath, hard to get any idea of what is happening in between all the screaming.
