Rose McGowan: Ben Affleck is Lying, he knew about Weinstein raping me and other women

OK Luc Besson dated a 15 year old and they had a daughter when she was 16.
Is that illegal?

There were no raping, molesting, abuse or what not.

Age of consent (or in France's case, the particularly low one at the time) does not equal to dudes cornering women in hotels and insinuating if they don't fuck them he's going to ruin their career.

What the fuck. I hope whoever is his assistant gets in hot water as well.

And Seydoux's experiences are terrible as well. Don't want to start speculating but shes worked with some pretty notable directors.

I mean she has 37 credited roles. Speculating is pointless.

Everything is going to come out eventually and Im sure its coming out sooner rather than later.

It feels like society woke up and told itself "spring cleaning time".

The troublesome thing about singling out Affleck with regard to Weinstein is that the only reason it is happening is that he said he knew.

Everyone knew. Hollywood knew. To a lesser extent, much of this forum probably knew and didn't boycott Weinstein.

But Affleck told someone he knew. If he gets singled out for that, it sends the message "never admit you know anything." Affleck should have boycotted Weinstein, and to hell with his career. As should everyone else. But we know how difficult it is for people to do that, and singling Affleck out for that sends a false message of how easy it is.

Now, singling out Affleck (as McGowan is doing) for attempting to portray ignorance now is right on the money AND sends the right message. Moreover, if I was her I would feel it to be a personal betrayal when people in my life (boyfriend, friends, people who appeared to offer support) went right back to business as usual with Weinstein, and if they topped that off with fake ignorance, I would be rightfully furious.

The scary thing about Tarantino possibly knowing is if Samuel L Jackson had knowledge.

I think we have to assume that everyone knows or at least had heard the rumors. I just don't buy anyone coming out and saying " I didn't know". You either knew or you didn't want to know.

Yea, this I agree with.

People shitting on Affleck because he knew and didn't do anything, I mean, a lot of people knew. The most they could do is tell him to stop, or threaten to beat him up. (Affleck did former, Pitt did the latter).

People should single Affleck out because he's trying to feign ignorance and potentially look good in this whole mess.

I can't speak for everyone, of course, but the only common knowledge about Weinstein in the wide public was that he was a total ass to people and liked to buy and cut movies up on people.

That is like the complete opposite of what happened.

He knew and pretended he didn't knew it.

Edit:

And he groped a woman on top of it.

Yeah, basically.

I suppose this is the default Weinstein thread now, so here's Seth MacFarlane's statement (he made the joke at the Oscars earlier),

And predictably people were attacking him for not telling others, but victim explained why.

For those who may have overlooked this and are wondering why some of us are being so hard on Affleck. It's not all just because of the Weinstein stuff. I'm just gonna post an excerpt here:

After Ben Affleck denounced Harvey Weinstein on Tuesday, actress and former TRL host Hilarie Burton recalled the time Affleck groped her during an appearance on the show. Burton shared a video from TRL: Uncensored where she laughs off her discomfort about the incident, in which ”he comes over and tweaks my left boob." That Uncensored clip doesn't show the grope, but another one does: In that video, a producer describes seeing something like ”a little squeeze." As Burton says in the clip, ”some girls like a good tweakage here and there. I'd rather have a high five."

At the time, Affleck's move was treated as funny, naughty moment in TRL's history, but as Burton says now, ”I didn't forget [about it] ... I was a kid." According to the TRL historians at ONTD, Burton was 18 at the time.

The moment is reminiscent of another interview with Affleck — this time with an Montreal TV host Anne-Marie Losique from 2004 — that periodically makes the rounds on social media. In the clip Affleck pulls Losique into sitting on his lap, talks about the firmness of her breasts, and proposes she take her top off.

absolutely disgusting, but doesn't surprise me at all. wherever there is power, there is abuse of power. I am glad that at least this came out, I hope more will follow, as sad as it is.

Everyone knew. Hollywood knew. To a lesser extent, much of this forum probably knew and didn't boycott Weinstein.

It's one of those open secrets that you hope isn't true but you know is. How many meta tv shows/movies about Hollywood show a sleazy producer using a "casting couch" to hire young actresses? There are hundreds if not thousands of examples. I'm not shocked about any of the reports coming out I'm just shocked Weinstein actually lost his job.

This is such a knee jerk post. It's not Ben affleck's place to out shit like this. If he knew about it he's a holier than thou asshole nothing more.

You could've ended the thread right there. I don't understand why so many high profile women (and men) would stay quiet for this long. If Jolie or Paltrow came out as soon as it happened this would've been over ages ago. They were big enough names to take down this guy.

What was McFarlane's "hard swing" at Weinstein ?

The first time a director made an inappropriate comment to me, I was in my mid 20s. He was a director I really liked and respected. We were alone and he said to me: ”I wish I could have sex with you, I wish I could fuck you."

He said it in a way that was half joking and half serious. I was very angry. I was trying to do my job and he made me very uncomfortable. He has slept with all of the actresses he filmed.

A director she liked and respected... she was in her "mid 20s" (24) when she was in Inglourious Basterds.
Hmmmm.

I'd be more inclined to believe that Tarantino was Weinstein's wing-man than anything else.

They actually both come from Hollywood royalty. Steven Spielberg is paltrows godfather. And even then they felt compelled to not say anything. That tells you just how scary Weinstein must have been.

Wasn't Casey Affleck involved in sexual assault or something like that. What did Ben say then?

That was settled in mediation between the parties and it’s not really known who paid what to who. No one involved is allowed to talk about it as part of the agreement so I’m not sure we’ll ever know if there was anything to the allegations.

Who was?

And can we stop accusing Tarantino, just because you always thought he was kinda creepy?

She also worked with Woody Allen in her mid-20's, among other name directors, so it can be difficult to pinpoint; and without any more information, it's best not to point fingers at the moment without more.

I can't speak for everyone, of course, but the only common knowledge about Weinstein in the wide public was that he was a total ass to people and liked to buy and cut movies up on people.

It was referenced on 30 Rock and was an open "joke" at the Oscars:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCNvREKTnQc

A lot of people saw this but didn't think anything of it, forgetting it immediately, because society isn't used to thinking anything of it. MacFarlane wasn't joking though.

That is like the complete opposite of what happened.

He knew and pretended he didn't knew it.

I'm talking about years ago when he told McGowan that he told Weinstein to stop it. It sends a bad message to single him out over that, because it just tells people not to admit knowing anything. If he hadn't told her that he wouldn't have even got caught with the current tweet insinuating ignorance.

The problem is everyone knew and it still took this long to bring Weinstein down. That's what we need to deal with.

But again, singling out Affleck for what he just said recently sends the right message: do not pretend to be ignorant.

The first part is shitty but the second part seemed to be a running bit between the two of them.
In a 2001 Los Angeles Times interview — for an article titled “Aboard the USS Ben Affleck” — Losique discussed her habit of sitting on Affleck’s lap during their numerous interviews.

“It’s something that started a long time ago. Now I’m always on his lap,” she told them. “I don’t have to prepare anything. It’s very easy. But I never get to ask him any questions. Never in five years.”

Her profile on the site Woo-me also boasts about the star “openly flirting” with her.

“Imposing herself as a television producer, television host or CEO (and sometimes as an actress and singer), Anne-Marie Losique leaves nobody indifferent. Ben Affleck, actor of blockbuster productions such as ‘Pearl Harbour’ and ‘Armageddon,’ knows something about it! In the early 2000s, he had succumbed to the charms (and in the generous attributes!) of Anne-Marie who was then hosting the broadcast magazine ‘Box-office.’ The American star openly flirted with her and had created some funny interviews which are still spoken about to this day.”

Losique’s sizzle reel for the program showcases all her flirtatious encounters with the actor. She owns the adult entertainment channel Vanessa TV and is the daughter of Serge Losique, the founder and president of the Montreal World Film Festival.

She worked with Brad Bird in her mid twenties too.

Let's not play detective Gaf this time. It reeks if selective judgment based on finding someone "creepy."

I understand this when we are talking about some no name actress scared of her career, but what's the reason for staying quiet this long?

Not trying to put the blame on the victims or their boyfriends, but these big name people had nothing to fear about. Everyone of them could've taken him down. Or is this one of those "hey sorry about my behaviour, let's make three more movie together" type deals?

Ben Affleck is a talented director and a sublime hollywood actor. Gone Baby Gone is one of the essentials of the 2000s. It was one of the strongest actor-to-director transistions I have seen. So it hurts to see this.

But in a way it doesn't surprise me. Ben Affleck appears to be very liberal- Like when he is acting like a giant baby on Bill Maher, unable to comprehend basic fucking arguments, but then he'll go around and deny his slave anecestory.

The level of hypocricy- From stroking your social justice peen to being an absolute shitshow. It was you projecting your own narrow mind all along Ben. Not that Sam Harris or Maher are any credible figure on islam, it still jerks the knees.

Im starting to be genuinely curious how society is going to handle every rock being turned over so rapidly now.

Everything is going to come out eventually and Im sure its coming out sooner rather than later.

I'm scratching my head at this. Have you forgotten the Sony leaks? Have you forgotten the countless racist, insane, sexist and non-stop bigoted emails that leaked?

All the major studios are like this- Hollywood is a racist institution that stands up for each other, because they owe each others their careers. They won't go around and backstab one another for that.

And it's not just Hollywood. When there is money to be made, it's just about having a re-focus of conversation of changing a controversy into sales pitch. Chris Brown facing uproar for domestic abuse? We can change the script into a story about how the real victim is Chris Brown, and we should understand domestic abuse because his father beat the shit out of him.
We'll use the negativity to write a script where Chris goes through grief, acceptance, apologies he doesn't mean, and then bounces back. Because nothing gets peoples dicks as hard as a comeback story.

According to Ranker, look at this;

Nicolas Cage;
In 2011, Nicolas Cage was arrested for domestic battery and disturbing the peace. Cage reportedly pushed his wife outside of a tattoo shop and punched some cars that were nearby.

Charlie Sheen;
In 2009, "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges after reporting trying to choke his wife Brooke Mueller. Sheen also pleaded no contest to a 1996 charge that he attacked his girlfriend at his home.

Steven Seagals sympathy for sentient beings doesn't stretch to women;
Steven Seagal's ex-wife Kelly LeBrock has made claims that Seagal was abusive throughout their marriage. Seagal has also been sued for sexual harassment several times as well as for assaulting women on his sets.

Gary Busey;
Gary Busey was arrested for domestic violence in 1999 and 2001. He has also been arrested for possession of cocaine.

Rick Allen:
Def Leopard drummer Rick Allen was charged with domestic violence in 1995. Allen lost his left arm after crashing his corvette on New Year's Eve 1984.

Glen Campbell:
Country star Glen Campbell has a history of domestic violence. He also pled guilty to a hit and run charge in 2003.

Edward Furlong:

Calling all Jan-Michael Vincents to go fuck themselves in the 16th quadrant:

... The list also has a few women on (most of them athletes) and many many NFL players, and other people.

Some of these I had no idea about. :I Hollywood protects Woody Allen, Mel Gibson, Polanski. This is just the way things are and seemingly have been since the era when star power began to overshadow directors. But I assume that back to pre-WW2 Directors still probably were doing all kinds of crazy shit.

It's now Lea Seydoux's turn to come forward.

meet men like Harvey Weinstein all the time. I have starred in many films over the last 10 years and have been lucky enough to win awards at festivals like Cannes. Cinema is my life. And I know all of the ways in which the film industry treats women with contempt.

When I first met Harvey Weinstein, it didn't take me long to figure him out. We were at a fashion show. He was charming, funny, smart – but very domineering. He wanted to meet me for drinks and insisted we had to make an appointment that very night. This was never going to be about work. He had other intentions – I could see that very clearly.

We met in the lobby of his hotel. His assistant, a young woman, was there. All throughout the evening, he flirted and stared at me as if I was a piece of meat. He acted as if he were considering me for a role. But I knew that was bullshit. I knew it, because I could see it in his eyes. He had a lecherous look. He was using his power to get sex.

He invited me to come to his hotel room for a drink. We went up together. It was hard to say no because he's so powerful. All the girls are scared of him. Soon, his assistant left and it was just the two of us. That's the moment where he started losing control.

It's important to note that Lea Seydoux is coming from a huge family. With her grand father being the President of Pathe and his brother being the President of Gaumont (You may now them from Hannibal and Narcos), the oldest cinema company.

So even when you have a relative power you're still going to get attacked.

Regarding the list above, it's important to differentiate between being "arrested" and being convicted.

That said, a lot of domestic abusers never get convicted or even prosecuted because charges get dropped for all sorts of reasons, which doesn't make them any less despicable.

Still a damning list and there's probably tons more where that came from. :\

Regarding sexual harassment, Sam Bee had this depressing/hilarious piece:

Crazy thing about Josh Brolin is the spouse he abused was Diane Lane, and prior to Affleck they were looking at him for Batman. Imagine how awkward and ill thought out those scenes and press tour would've been.
