Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

I really wish they fix the background music, right now the area themes loop instead of ambient soundtrack...the ambient music was my favourite thing on pc...

so If I find an item and my backpack is already full, is there any way of sending the item automatically to my chest, or I need to throw something away to make room for the new item?

Also, the seaweeds, are useless?

Also, I seem ton only find trash when I fish on ponds, is that the rule of thumb? good stuff only on big river, open sea?

Seaweed is actually used in a cooking recipe.

Ponds will generally only have junk and small, unique fish. The three major fishing biomes are the lake (on the mountain, near the mines), the ocean (off the beach) and the river (in the forest and the town, though some fish vary slightly between the two). There's a couple other unique spots with unique fish too, but most fishing is done in the three I mentioned.

In Winter year 2. Penny married, Community center finished. House and buildings all built/upgraded fully, Mines finished. Library donations finished. Should get a good evaluation.

I kind of made my second year fall farm too large to harvest and water properly. I only really used the mid-tier sprinklers in my greenhouse but I definitely will use the mid-tier one on my farm more on my next playthrough seeing how much ore I ended up with plus I want to try the other farms out. I would spend most of my time just watering and harvesting all day and it left me with very little time to do anything else and all that watering sucked the fun out of the season. I made serious money though. My plan for next year is to have a full Iridium Sprinkler system set up so I don't have to water anything and be seed sufficient to cut Pierre out of the loop. I set up a bunch of seed machines in two columns to bang out a bunch of seeds quickly.

Just got a glitched quest. Lewis is asking for a Catfish, so I caught and gave him one, but it only registers as a gift. Pretty annoying.
I also got a glitched quest but with Sebastian and seaweed. Specially annoying since gifting that causes friendship to drop.

I decided to wed Emily since she's one of the new eligible bachelor/ettes added to the game post-launch and I wanted to see how Concernedape retroactively turned her into one.

Surprisingly enough, she has great heart events. One sad scene that happens when you officially become an item is
Clint the blacksmith congratulating you and her with a sigh once he see's you two together.
that one quest where he asks you to give her a gift and she
kisses you smh

I thought the shipping container next to my house was a storage container for the first few weeks. That was a shitty realization that all of the wood I gathered was gone.

For those experiencing the background music issue - is this only in handheld mode? Just curious - I've only played docked so far, but zero issues.

One other question - what else has this developer done? Is this his newest (only?) game?

This is his first and so far only game.

How did you not notice it? You got cash at the end of every day listing what you sold :D

Deep inside, i knew Mr. T was a vegetarian.

He pitties the fool who doesn’t eat his veggies.

What are those bits of wood around certain crops?

They come with those starter plants so they have something to support them (tomatoes/grapes/etc.)

Oh my god your farm is so nice.

Haha, thanks! It’s nothing compared to some of the ones of seen, though!
I’ve started building a fence so I can separate my animals and farming for now. Also have some apple trees growing for the fall. Hoping I don’t regret that 8K downpayment for those two trees! Just have to get enough copper, clay, wood, and stone. Where exactly do you get clay? And I can’t seem to find any iron.

I forgot to fish the Sunfish during the second summer. RIP community center. Save me travelling merchant.

Going the coopmaster route has really been fun, and now that I'm close to winter year 2, I have more cash than I know what to do with. Average daily income is around 15,000 and it's not too hard on the upkeep, I can usually get done with everyone on the farm (other than closing up the coops) fairly early in the day. I still have one section of actual farm plot but now that I have the greenhouse unlocked I may just convert it into an additional coop.

I still haven't had much luck finding Iridium, though. I'm assuming it is something that comes out of
Skull Cavern
but I haven't had much time to mess around there. I've found a handful of ore from the quarry and a couple geodes (enough to make an Iridium Sprinkler for my greenhouse) but it seems like it will be a while before I can upgrade any of my tools still.

I can feel the urge to start a second file creeping up already. I really want to try out one of those other farms, maybe become a sheep farmer on the hilltop layout.

The probability of there being Iridium Deposits increases as you go further in that area. Best thing to do it find a day where the fortune teller says you have great luck, then head there and try to find as many holes as possible so you can skip floors.

Also, at the beginning of Year 3
depending on your grade at Grandpa's grave (things like relationships, farm progress, skills, etc. all factor in), you'll get a statue that gives you a random number (like 4-8) iridium each day. If you don't get a good grade you can always get re-graded as you make progress

Yeah in order to do efficient Skull Cave mining: wait for a lucky day, show up with several large bombs and a bunch of spare stone, munch a Lucky Lunch or Spicy Eel or something.

You want to bomb a large collection of rocks to hopefully unearth a hole. If the map is sprawled out or corridor-y or you don’t find a down after a bomb or two, just craft a staircase and head down. Don’t bother mining anything that isn’t Iridium Ore until you get like 50 levels down.

You should basically expend a ton of resources to get deep down quickly, then slow down and reap the bounty.

I think you are just supposed to talk to them without holding the item in your hands. That's how it worked with the carpenter's axe. I don't think that's a glitch just a slip up in programming logic. Ideally the game should register gifting it as quest completion with no friendship drop.

Hmm, I see. It seemed pretty dangerous the first couple ventures I took in there, and the Adventurer's Guild doesn't really seem to have anything better for me to buy since I cleared the mines. I'll have to figure out a better way to layout my bar I guess so that I can put Energy Tonics on the main bar near my sword and pickaxe in case I get into trouble (as my main worry is not being able to accurately switch to a healing item if I get sloppy with flying enemies or something).

That sucks. At least Lewis seemed to like the catfish.

Didn't work with me. I tried different days too (since you have 2 days to do the quest), but nope.

Well shit. Add that to the list of the other quest glitches.

Just finished the egg festival. Didn't get too many eggs on the hunt. How many do you need to win and is the prize decent?

UPDATE: about a few hours in. Been about two weeks game time.
Caught a bunch of fish, still trying to meet everyone, finally found out about the Community Center, sold some crops, failed a timed quest, looking for an axe. Things are starting to come together.
I don't like how fast the days go by sometimes and my energy gets depleted way too fast.

One big thing though: it's soooo cool that I can play this as a handheld game and then instantly *switch* over and play BOTW on my big HDTV ON THE SAME CONSOLE.

I got 10 and won a nice hat. Don't think it's special in anyway, but it's kind of fun to see on my character.

I think I'm finally getting it. Summer of year 1. Haven't really talked to a lot of the townspeople yet. Gonna need to get a silver bucket, my farm is getting too big.

The speed of the days was the biggest thing putting me off at first; it's hard to get the ropes when a walk around a town you don't know takes most of the day.

Once you work out a rhythm it hooks you.

Next time talk to him without holding the item. That way the game won't register it as a gift but it'll trigger the quest. Not a qlitch afaik, it just works that way. If you have an item selected (except for your tools) it counts as a gift.

My game has crashed after sleep/before save so many times that I feel like quitting. It's about 10 times in 35hrs playtime I'd say. Sucks because I love the game, I rarely play a few hours of a game a week let alone 35... Pretty unacceptable imo :(

I lost my Galaxy Sword doing this trick though

I wish I could find items that expand the Health Combat bar.

The amount that this game crashes is the worst I've seen in a console game since the original No Man's Sky launch. Do not buy this game until it's fixed.

Hmm, I wonder what's causing that to happen for you. 10 hours in and haven't had any crashes.

It's a nitpick but I don't like that Check is A and Use is Y. On PS4 and XB1 its Square/X and X/A. I wish there was a way of changing to be like on every other console controller. I know they changed it because accept and cancel on Nintendo is flipped from Xbox/PS4 but still

What's the best way to get started in this game? I've heard fishing is a good way to spend time in the early days. My farm is the river one.

Fishing's always a good way to make money. You could just spend a little bit of your day growing the basic, quick sell crops and then spend the rest of your day fishing and setting crab pots.

So I'm on like day 8, wet with the standard farm.

Reading all these comments I can't help but wonder if I should have gone with one of the other versions?

You won't miss out on anything no matter what farm you get. The standard one simply gives you more farming area than the others.

Ok! Thank you very much. Similar to how I spent my time in Animal Crossing. Sell all exotic fruit and fish all day.

Thanks!

I think my hesitation was more due to me liking bodies of water etc. In animal crossing new leaf I would always build next to the river or have as many sides with water as possible. So I was thinking that maybe the river map might be better for my taste.

Also would that map have sufficient room for livestock etc?

Every map has "sufficient" room. Just not as wide open or as much total usable space.
