Sony X800D well - reviewed, 4k+HDR TV with low input lag

Netflix and Amazon do. there's at least one other but I forgot what its called.

oh weird, im looking at amazon on the movies that I know support it, but it doesnt have any icons or wording saying it will have it

right now just an example im looking at the movie Fury. It just shows that I can buy or rent it in SD or HD. If I play the trailer, it can only do 1080p

The first HDR content I ever saw was through Amazon instant video.

https://www.amazon.com/HDR-Electronics/b?ie=UTF8&node=11652987011

website even lists x800d in supported tv's

Is it supposed to tell me if I am getting a 4k hdr video? Or do I just have to get the one listed "HD" and see for myself? Ive looked up a list of movies that are HDR on amazon, and none specify on the app that I have on the tv that they have it

Just look for the HDR icon within the description. Many of the 4K Ultra HD TV stuff support HDR. It doesnt say it when looking through the list, but if you go into the details of a particular movie or whatever it then shows you the HDR icon.

I found the problem. If you search a movie that supports it, it wont show the UHD version. I have to scroll down for dayssss on the homepage to get to a section specifically called "Buy 4k Ultra HD movies", then I can see them all.

do any streaming apps support 4k/hdr on this tv? Ive been looking around and it looks like amazon video and Vudu dont. Vudu seems to be mostly on samsungs

Amazon certainly does. (Finding the content OTOH is like pulling teeth since their search doesn't offer any useful results.)

Also Sony has a special, ultra buggy Ultra HD app dedicated to some UHD and/or HDR movies.

Just setting up my PS4 Pro with this TV, is there anything I should know or do with regards to getting the best picture quality, either in the PS4 menu or the TV menu?

How do I do that?

I have it in the 3rd HDMI port because I'm sure I read somewhere 2 and 3 are the best to use on this model and I have a soundbar in 2

BASIC SET UP INFORMATION *************PLEASE READ**************

1) Connect your Pro or other 4k/HDR gaming devices into either HDMI ports 2 or 3. HDMI port 1 and 4 will not allow 4k/60hz w/HDR at full 4k.
2) Turn on Enhanced HDMI. Click the home button on your Sony's remote, scroll all the way down to settings. Go to input. Change HDMI to ENHANCED. This turns on 444 and HDR at full 4k.
3) Go to your PS4's settings -> Sound and Screen -> Make sure everything is on automatic. And then go to video output information and make sure it says : 2160p - 60hz. RGB HDR: 2k/4k. If it says something other than that, something is wrong.
4) You can leave many of the PS4's and TV's settings on auto. The TV and Pro do a good job of communicating with each other for the optimal picture depending on the software being used.
5) When playing HDR enabled content, the TV should automatically increase brightness (which is what it calls it's backlight setting) to MAX. If not, do it manually. Of course, when you exit out of HDR enabled content, the brightness should go back to your standard defaulted non HDR settings..)
6) Set the TV to GAME MODE picture setting to reduce input lag.

Ah thanks. I did read that when I first got the TV, but that was 6 months ago and I've only just got a Pro today

That all worked, only my Pro says "2160 - 60hz" and not "2160p - 60hz" though the TV has 2160p when I switch to the HDMI channel

Weirdly the TV seems to know what HDMI port the PS3 is in, and labels it as such, and it turns the TV on when I use the DS3 to turn on the PS3 etc, but it doesn't seem to do with this the PS4, maybe I need to toggle a setting somewhere?

You need to turn hdmi control on in the ps4 system settings.

Hmm, all of a sudden I can’t set 1440p as display option for my pc on hdmi 1 or 4 (haven’t tried other inputs). Anyone else have this problem? I know for a fact I used to be able to play games at 1440p and now that option isn’t even showing up in game menus, or windows display setting, or NV control panel.

Also no 1440p on hdmi 2 or 3. Why?

Anybody have a pc hooked up?

looking to pick up a new TV as my 11 year old, 26 inch, 720p samsung just isn't cutting it any more and was wondering if this is still the go-to set? has a 2017 model replaced it at all, or even a different manufacturer come out with something great this year?
i'm in the UK so if anyone can provide those model numbers that would be even more appreciated, thank you!

The X800d has been replaced by the X800e. Not sure you'll find a X800d easily any more. The X800e is a solid TV by accounts but unfortunately comes up lacking in a lot of areas compared to the X800d.

The XE can get a bit brighter for HDR but has less range on its wide-colour gamut than the XD (not a good thing; a step backwards) and most importantly has an IPS panel, which translates as poor contrast levels. If you were to put it in a bright room you might not notice but the darker your viewing room, the black levels would look very grey.

I think if you can afford it you might want to look at the X900e. It's supposed to be a superb TV but will cost you a bit extra.

Quick question. I have a x900e and ps4 pro. On the ps4 pro, it says that I am limited to 2.0 speed and so the YUV/RGB range is limited.
Can it be the cable which limit the maximum speed? Or do you think I am missing something else?

I'm having light bleed issues all of a sudden. The whole right side of my tv is lighter than the rest of it now. Sometimes it's unnoticable but in some scenes it's really obvious. Like, the floor will be dark brown for most of the tv then light brown on the right side...

Its going to be limited when playing HDR content at 4K.

If its not HDR it should say RGB, the console not the TV, TV should be on Auto

Does anyone here have any problems with the directional arrows and center button on the remote? I find them extremely unresponsive, making navigating menus almost impossible. All the other buttons seem to function fine.

I did until I replaced the batteries.

That should not happen.

If you have followed these instructions and still have the error, yes the cable can also be the problem, particularly if it is long. Also, if you are going through an older AVR you would see this issue as well.

Help please?

Lighting and black areas look really rough. Especially with HDR on. I see pixel boxes where the lighting changes. Especially on certain games on my PS4. I don't know how to fix it.

Do we have a general TV set discussion topic, or if not can I post one here to talk about? I'm looking for advice from anyone who knows more about this stuff than I do.

So i feel like an idiot.

My tv has been slow since basically the day i bought it and i've been bitching about it.
I replaced the batteries in the remote and it's been 100x better since...

who would've thought Sony would have sent me shitty batteries that basically failed on day 1? remind me to never buy their batteries in the future.

This happened to me as well, though they lasted a month or so

I thought the mic was always on or something and that was killing the batteries

Still haven't actually managed to get the mic working, but I don't really care about it

Go to the TV settings. My mic was disabled after an update and i was about to return my x9005e unitll i messed with the settings and found that the update disabled the mic.

Was wondering if the X850E was the 2017 follow up to the X800D series?

Also is there an HDR pop up notification that appears when viewing HDR content?

Thanks.

No the 850E is the follow up to the 850D. Very similar in speca though as it is an 8 series model but the 850 series usually means 55",65" and 75" etc. The 65" X850E is a very similar television to this X800D with slightly better blacks and a better 120hz panel, slightly less wide color gamut,a little brighter.

And yes, when viewing HDR content such as a UHD disc or Netflix content you see HDR when you click picture adjustments etc. I have a picture of it from an older firmware tons of pages back.

Recently moved ISP to virgin and on their new router. TV is prone to disconnecting from said router while on standby which is irritating. Anyone had the same issue. Know how to fix it?

Seriously why is there even a native VUDU app for this thing lol

Not being 4K makes no sense at all.

but seriously tho, this is something that can't be fixed via an update? (genuinely asking)

YouTube plays 4k flawlessly on the very same TV so I'm assuming it's not a hardware limitation.

Sooo, i just bought the 49" XE8005 (or i think X8005E in the US) and although I´m still using the base PS4, the upgrade over my old TV is very noticable.

It just seems like i have the "HDR is washed out" Problem. With HDR off, the games look much better than on my old set, HDR does turn up the brightness but makes everything...greyer. But maybe also more realistic?

Just to be sure, i plugged the PS4 into HDMI port 3 and set it to enhanced hdmi (even without 4k, just because).

The Internet seems to be full with people that have the same Problem but there is little to no official Communication about that topic.

This set has no local dimming, so the brightness is raised across the board. It can be ok in a brighter room, but if you are in a dark or dim room, you may have to adjust it so that your blacks aren't grey.
