SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

This is coming along nicely.
I used a cartridge as a selector, but will probably change that again.
Potatoe quality incoming.

Just now learning the snes versions of nba jam don't have music during the gameplay.

That gameplay music was iconic.

I was a genesis kid so I didn't know nintendo consoles had the plebe version.

I never understood why the SNES versions didn't have music. It couldn't of been a technical issue.

So what options do you have if you want to install more than the 62 games, is there a way to have them all display or do you have to have the others in a folder which appear on the main list?

You have to use folders or else you'll start getting errors.

I just used the 62 game limit to set a limit for myself and leave a lot of room for save states.

Thanks so much Robin64 and KojiKnight for the Illusion of Gaia patch! You guys are the best. I'm guessing it's normal for Hakchi to still recognize the file as not compatible right? Mine works even when it said that in adding it.

Quick comment.

In the link you have a Lufia image.

It's a picture of Maxim and Selan. The image says, "and the fortress of doom."

That's Lufia 1. Maxim and Selan more notably star in Lufia 2,and are only briefly shown in the first game.

Just my observation!

Oh! My bad. I have not played any of the Lufia games, to be honest. The best artwork I could find for Lufia 1 was (what I thought was) from the DS remake. Now I'm finding out that it's actually a remake of the second game! Oops!

Does anyone have any suggestion for Lufia *1* artwork I could use?

I doubt I'll ever mess with my icons beyond whatever hakchi google search gives me, but there is some very nice work in this thread.

I'm awfully tempted to add games to both my NES and SNES Classics. I don't want every game though, just like 10 to 15 more on each. I'd also like to add the same 4:3 scaling filter the SNES Classic uses to my NES Classic. Does anyone here know if that's possible?

The thread IS called hacking tho. I don't know much about stuff like that so I took it literally

It also uses the word gooder :)

At any rate, the hacking is basically being done (or was done) by a russian named ClusterM and a little outside help with the fringe issues.

Even that hacking being done isn't something that is really taboo, it would just be too technical to harbor discussion on a place like NeoGAF.

We are free to discuss all the talk of modding (using ClusterM's software) we would like provided we are not encouraging someone download unauthorized roms. Keep the piracy out of the thread, and mod away!

I am curious as to what type of blurring is used on the 4:3 SNES mode as well. DF Retro goes into a small detail about it limiting artifacting due to the lack of integer scaling. That was one of my biggest pet peeves about 720p emulation is that darn shimmer/artifact.

Done 32 of these logo-less Switch-sized images now. :)

I absolutely adore most of these. My nit pick is that I would prefer that none of the icons have solid color backgrounds. Contra 3 is bliss, but the white backgrounds on Mario RPG and Yoshi's Island bother me for some reason.

At any rate, the switch style icons fit my tastes very well. Awesome work.

The console war flames will never be extinguished.

My only guess is that Midway cheapened out and didn't want to pay for higher capacity cartridges.

All those samples eat up space. On the Genesis, the music is just code.

So is there any reason that Front Mission Gun Hazard is not saving without Savestates? Is there nothing that can be done about that?

Ohh you know this might explain why I wasn’t able to transfer my save over. Is there some flag we need to set so that the snes classic realizes a game has saves?

Man, these all look so good I can’t decide which type of icons to use. No reason I can’t rotate, at least.

No way to change the boxes for the original 21 games, I take it?

You can, but that involves FTP'ing and stuff. You can always hide the original games and place your own of the 21 to change its cover arts.

Windows only merges these days. You can just drop everything in there and be fine, anything custom you've made that doesn't come in the .zip will remain.

Thanks for clarifying. I use OSX and have been doing everything (well, since yesterday when I started) via VirtualBox WM so I wanted to check before I screwed something up.

You mean uncheck the "Original Games" at the top and just add them back? Obviously I assume that'll take up the space the OG games took up, no?

While this is possible, it's not especially likely. The samples aren't exactly huge, it wouldn't have taken too much space. A single .SPC file is only 65KB, and most of those samples would be reused over many songs. More likely, they cheaped out on getting a sound engineer to make them music.

They are semi-correct. This is hacking as well as modding. You have to hack into the system to be able to mod it. There is nothing wrong with the word hacking, there are many perfectly legal reasons and ways to hack a piece of software or hardware.

How do genesis games run on this hardware? Guess I’ll need to rip my old genesis nba jam cart.

Was wondering if anyone could rank the following RPGs from best to worst:

1.Live A Live

2. Bahamut Lagoon

3. Treasure of the Rudras

4. Treasure Hunter G

5. Breath of Fire 2

6. Gunman’s Proof (its more of a Zelda type but w/e)

7. Terranigma

8. SMT

Right now I’m randomly bouncing between games, but I would like to hunker down with an RPG or two to completion. I’m not mentioning Earthbound or Secret of Mana as I intend to definitely play those to completion sooner rather than later.

Just mainly wondering the most recommended if Japanese exclusive RPGs.

They run at 5fps, nothing has yet tamed the power of the system. Also no music.
Thanks for your stellar input. No where did I bash your precious console( im in his thread, ripped snes games and I am playing them) . Just stated that this version didn’t have music and is definitely neutered.

I legitimately had no idea then snes version had no music. I love the music for that game. This is not a knock on the console.

I’d love to know the back story. Doesn’t seem like a technical limitation.

If anyone wants to be less sarcastic about my question feel free.

SF2 CE Plus runs fine, even got the six buttons working somehow. I thought you had to press select to switch between kicks and punches, but apparently SF2 supports six buttons or there's some hack in the emulator.

I'm just teasing. You'll be able to run it fine, rip away. I associate it with having no music, just the squeak of the floorboards and the crowd.

It was crazy I thought something was wrong with the Rip I made.

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I’m not bashing the SNES. Just didn’t own one as a kid so I didn’t know there was no music.

Got chrono trigger to work up until crono is supposed to be waken by his mom, then its just black screen. Anyone knows whats causing this?

So, I just did this stuff and added 2 games. Turtles in Time and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Fighting Edition (works with retroarch). Everything works fine. Thanks to the wonderful people who made this possible! :)
This will now become an incredible little plastic box.

I finally want to experience Terranigma.
Does it work with ntsc patch?

A gentleman in this thread is working on it.

Just a quick question, and I am sure it's been answered but I haven't been keeping up with this thread. I am thinking of starting to play around with adding games and whatever tonight, my question is are you able to add games in a compressed format and have them work? I want to add probably between 70-80 games to it but want to make sure I have enough room for save states etc.

Hakchi will compress them for you
