Adam Driver is the best actor in this whole thing

That little gulp when aim at Leia was a bit of impressive acting from Driver. I really hope they allow his character to stay a villain.

That whole sequence, as short as it is, is so well done. From her sensing him, him sensing her, then the swallow and finger on the trigger. Really, really good stuff. Probably my favorite moment out of a trailer with great moments.

Luke being scared shitless and his line delivery in every part of the trailer is great. It’s always interesting to me how trailers will edit dialogue delivery for emphasis (mainly the pauses between lines that won’t be there in the actual movie; ie, “It didn’t scare me enough then... it does now” will probably be delivered without the dramatic pause in the actual film).

I think it's a possibility that this scene from the teaser:
Kylo.jpg

Is the same scene in which Kylo holds out his hand:

Adam Driver is perfect for this series. He plays the broken progeny of Han Solo and Leia Organa excellently.

He is literally what Anakin was supposed to be but actually pulls it off, it's amazing.

Anywho, regarding Rey's parentage, I think they will make a deal out of it, sorta, even if it turns out her parents were basically nobodies. They're certainly drumming up some anticipation about the fact that she is naturally, immensely powerful - if lacking guidance or a clear outlet for that power - just like Kylo, if not like Anakin. So if there isn't a reason for such in her lineage, I wouldn't be surprised if they stressed how that's not necessary, that some people are just naturally that powerful in the force; in a way it would be potentially be a neat little retcon over all the chosen one stuff from the prequels - a legend that just happens to fit a phenomenon that otherwise has nothing to do with it.

Also, good spot. Which makes me wonder that, even if the scene from the new trailer with Rey on the other side isn't from the scene with Kylo, there's still a scene with the two of them together, and Kylo offering his hand after doing that turn of the saber, and then shutting it down.

It could be in reverse -- when Rey rejects him, he brings out the lightsaber.

Yeah Adam Driver is killing it as Kylo. He's just a weird looking dude from some angles. It's odd, because sometimes he looks so bad ass, other times he just looks so weird.

Adam Driver is usually the best thing in whatever he is in. He was the best in Girls and the best in Episode 7. I actually thought he wasn't going to kill Han Solo even though I knew it was going to happen.

Guys in all fairness

No one got to play with the depth that Adam Driver was offered in TFA. Rey came close in her torture scene

To use Oscar Isaac as an example, it really doesn't matter how good he is elsewhere when his Ep.VII material has the depth of a spoon compared to Drivers. But obviously a truly great performance needs the actor, writer and director to all bring their A-game.

^^^^ still got that blaster damage from RotJ
Stuff like this makes for really cool callbacks, but he never got that hand replaced in all these many, many years? Really? Usually if you have a prosthetic limb and it gets major damage you'd want to replace it, or upgrade it when new tech is available, y'know?

Oh well, small nitpick. It's still neat to see.

I hope they do more with Oscar Isaac, but at this point I can't seeing him do anything but dying and becoming a plot device to rally the resistance

Poe's got a bigger role in this film than in TFA. It sounds like Leia's preparing him for more of a leadership role in the Resistance. I wouldn't be surprised if he's in charge of them in IX. Entertainment Weekly's cover story went into a bit of detail about it:

In The Last Jedi, a torch is being passed. It's about the peril of meeting your heroes, facing down disappointment, and rising to fight nonetheless. Just as Luke Skywalker – reluctantly – may be passing on his knowledge of the Force to Rey, Leia is guiding Poe, encouraging him to look beyond the crosshairs in his cockpit. There are other ways to fight, other ways to lead.

”Poe's arc is one of evolving from a heroic soldier to a seasoned leader, to see beyond the single-mindedness of winning the battle to the larger picture of the future of the galaxy," Isaac says. ”I think Leia knows she won't be around forever and she, with tough love, wants to push Poe to be more than the badass pilot, to temper his heroic impulses with wisdom and clarity."

Read a shit load of now legacy novels and just have a question.

So after ROtJ the empire was defeated but still had a few elements left that formed the new order Who then occupied Coruscant?

The remnants that eventually became the new order?
The New Republic?

Is this explained in any of the new books, i only ask because Coruscant is a big deal and I'm guessing most of the money that buys and pays for all the orders new toys has to come from many worlds and coruscant being the most populated one having literally trillions or so should fought for.

I’ve been saying that since The Force Awakens. He’s basically Anakin written better. I won’t knock Christensen’s performance, because I can see moments where a better script would have let him shine, but the writing was rough. Even the seasoned, veteran actors had a hard time selling some of the stuff George cooked up.

Also, as much as I dog the prequels, Episode 3 is, ironically, hilariously quotable. Me and my wife are almost always quoting lines from it.

Driver nails Kylo Ren though. He’s probably the most nuanced character we have from the films at the moment. Alec Guinness in a New Hope is great too. He plays Obi-Wan like he is being deceptive to Luke, which he is. Almost every line delivered by Guinness feels like it has a lot of subtext, especially watching the films in hindsight of Empire and Jedi. Driver has a similar air about his Kylo Ren.

Coruscant is New Republic affiliated, but it’s senators are, or at least were... secretly supporting TFO, among several other core worlds

Edit stupid spell check I know Star Wars better than a damn machine!

After the New Republic was formed, they used a number of different planets as the Republic's capital. Mon Mothma's homeworld, Chandrila, was the first.

As for Coruscant, some Imperial forces held out for a while, but after most of their fleet was destroyed at the Battle of Jakku, they surrendered and it became a member state in the Republic again.

It's explained in the Aftermath Novels - which occur prior to the Empire's full defeat - and Bloodlines - which takes place five or so years before TFA. The First Order is the Imperial Remnant that retreated into the Unknown Regions, no occupation of Coruscant. We're not entirely certain on the First Order's funding level, but they settled and colonised a bunch of new worlds, while a good chunk of the New Republic (which has a capital that changes every few years) defected because it actually liked the authoritarian ways of the Empire, thus providing them a boost in numbers.

Ok ok... So the new republic and the resistance are not one in the same but secretly they are funding the resistance I assume.

The new order was salvaged from the empire by snoke.

The new order then destroyed the new republics capitol world in TFA, none of those worlds were coruscant. Which worlds were those?

See im torn on Daisy, I think her lack of acting experience showed up in certain places in TFA, that being said in no way do I think it was a bad performance, I think its clear she grew into the role and I am looking forward to the next film to see her have more range.

Driver I think put much more into Kylo than actually existed in the script and given his body of work is clearly and incredible actor, they discussed this on Rebel Force Radio with Sam Witwer when they were doing the commentary but the "mask acting" Driver does is phenominal, when talking to vader, when emoting, its really really really hard stuff to do and he nails it.

That is different than saying Kylo is an incredible acting performance, or an incredible character, so far to me he is interesting not iconic, but I do think Driver gives more to his character so far than the others.

On the first point - yes. Leia specifically is getting support from old friends, while many other senators thought she was just a warmonger who couldn't let go of the past (that she was recently outed as Darth Vader's daughter didn't help).

The capital in TFA that we saw blow up was Hosnian Prime, along with the rest of the Hosnian system.

Pretty much everything on Jaaku to be honest, the conversation she has originally with BB8 makes me cringe, when shes shouting at the junker to "I was abandoned by my family too" line. Everything up to the millenian falcon, ill admit her lines are not a lot to work with but whereas when Driver or Finn says a silly line its said with utter conviction, with her sometimes its said as read, best way I can describe it.

I don't think he'll stay a villain, but I do think he'll remain a dark side user. I think his confusion as a person is because he hates what his actions are, but he doesn't feel right calling on the light side. And I think someone (I'm unclear on who) will eventually convince him that he can draw on the dark side to do good acts.

The New Republic weren't entirely in support of the Resistance. They had the support of some planets but there was still a reluctance from them to get involved in another galactic civil war.

The First Order was formed without Snoke. It's assumed he must have taken control at some point but he wasn't there at the very beginning. It was started by Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and some of the other leading Imperials that managed to escape to the Unknown Regions.

Starkiller Base destroyed the Hosnian System. Hosnian Prime was the New Republic's capital at the time of TFA.
