Movies Anywhere - New Digital Movie Locker

Oh that makes sense. I thought Vudu would just pass everything along, but I suppose it's still limited. How about Sony? I don't think those transferred over either (StarShip Troopers and Bridge on the River Kwai).

I hope this takes off though, I like the idea. Also need an Xbox app for sure.
Sony movies transfer over.

Keynote: ”And if you bought one of those movies in HD from iTunes, we're gonna automatically update them to 4K HDR at no additional cost."

MA movies not fitting the bill is shitty and I'm not happy with it, but it fits what is advertised

Isn't the issue that they show up as 4K in the library, but don't actually play at 4K?
If I'm misunderstanding that, let me know.

That is correct. That’s a side effect of there being no more distinction between “HD” and “4K” in the store when the 4K version exists

My buddy just looked his iTunes account and is on my Google family plan, butnoneof his iTunes films show up for him or us in the Google Play movies app. In settings, it shows that his account is linked.

Suggestions?

Then they do need to clear it up, especially since there's no easy way to tell it's not actually the 4K version, and that there is no way to buy the 4K version without doing a workaround by buying a code gift.

If only movies bought from iTunes qualify, then they shouldn't allow codes from standard BDs redeem for the 4K version.

It's a little slow right now.

Also, the stuff coming into my google play account from other services had to be manually added to the family library unlike stuff I buy on Google Play which is automatically added. So make sure you do that.

So I’m lost... if you have a 4K code that doesn’t redeem in iTunes... you should redeem it directly on MA or Vudu? And where will it remain 4K once you’ve done so?

And if you want to buy a 4K movie... you should buy it on Vudu or iTunes to get it to stay 4K on both?

And redeeming a normal Blu Ray code on iTunes does not upgrade to 4K? Only actual iTunes purchase movies get that upgrade?

4k codes, I'd redeem on Vudu because it is transferring 4k to iTunes and Google play. 4k in iTunes is only coming over to other services as hd

Right, I saw that. Had like 200 films to go through and enable sharing.

But on his own Google play movies app, none of his own movies from iTunes or Vudu are there. Mine are however.

Funny thing is he just bought Baby Driver on iTunes, and that instantly showed up on Google Play for everyone

4K codes don't even show up as 4K on Vudu when I redeem on Vudu. Did that change?

Ugh, trying to use my laptop's bluray player to use the disc to digital on movies that either had glitch UPC codes like Batman or Se7en (they come up as DVD) or had no UPC to begin with like Lord of the Rings. Got only one to get pick up, Batman 'unexpected error adding to cart" and the others just don't get read right by the player.

I'm annoyed that Google Play still doesn't support 4k on my Samsung TV app. I realize I can play stuff elsewhere but I like Google Play because it's on all my devices including some where Vudu kind of sucks.

So you want them to redeem as SD? That’s the issue that comes from all this. Other stores have SD-HD-4K purchasing tiers, and Apple had said no, HD means the highest quality available, which might be 4K.

I’m not disagreeing with you here and do think it’s deceptive, mind, but without Apple going back to the system other companies are using, it would be hard to engineer.

Honestly people are really overstating this iTunes thing. First, the movies look REALLY good. As has often been pointed out, HDR is a much bigger upgrade than HD->4K, and you still get that. Second Apple never set out to deceive anyone. They stated from the get go, any HD movies you BUY ON ITUNES will be upgraded to 4K HDR for free. I understand the excitement of seeing a bunch of free upgrades that you didn’t think you’d get now looking one way like you got them. I have some also.. but ultimately this is a “man I knew it was too good to be true” not a “I am getting screwed here”. Nothing was promised and not delivered.

So to clarify, the ONLY way to guarantee 4K copies in iTunes is to either buy it in iTunes or redeem a 4K code on any service? Or do 4K code redemptions not even guarantee a 4K iTunes copy? Or they do, but not when redeemed on non-iTunes Services?

Like a 4K code redeemed in the MA app goes everywhere in 4K that sells the 4K version?

Since the system is so dodgy and inconsistent right now it’s hard to say, but in theory, yes. The MA FAQ says 4K movies from one source should redeem as 4K on another, bit of course iTunes doing free upgrades and only two tiers instead of three complicates that

This whole thing has been a shitshow. There are dozens of movies that never cross over. How could this service perform so poorly from the onset? I feel like disconnecting all connected retailers, and I do have movies on each one, and reconnecting to see if they will actually sync properly...

Can you give an example of a movie that should cross over, but doesn't?

Man I got a lot of movies that I want to digitize. Is it worth getting a new blu-ray drive for my PC since I am tired of my PC acting up trying to read discs, as I only had a single movie work and the rest get stuck on "reading disc" and the PC getting pissed if I take the disc out after that point.

If you're referring to VUDU conversions, why not just use the mobile app? No discs needed - just the barcode from the case.

John Wick 2 (redeemed in ITunes 2 days ago, not showing), 4k blu-ray redeemed code, not showing 4k in Itunes and not showing in VUDU or Movies Anywhere app.

Rango (bought on Amazon about 4 years ago), not showing on any site except for Amazon.

iTunes shows that I have 203 movies, VUDU shows 243, movies anywhere shows 204.

Just gotta say how incredible this is to have my movies across all these services now. Now you can cross shop digital movies and not worry about what device you can or cannot play it on.
Yep.

Plus, even better, many of the movies on Vudu that I owned that did not have extras have extras on MA.

You picked two movies, from Lionsgate and Paramount, two studios that are backing UV only and not supporting MA.

Of course they're not going to sync across.

MA is supported by Fox, Sony, Universal, Disney, and WB. It's on the front page of the site.

Calling the site working as promised a "shitshow" is a wee bit of hyperbole.

Well, now I have egg on my face. :p

I must have a shit ton of movies from both studios.

Any word on if/when they will support MA? I would love to truly unify all my movies.

It's probably just a matter of time.

MGM is another studio that hasn't jumped in yet, which is sad, because Bond.

Since VUDU supports both services, you can use it as an easy cheat sheet for what will port to where. And VUDU is still the best place to use as a main because it is the only one that supports both UV and MA.

Interesting, if you buy Mad Max Fury Road on iTunes, the black and chrome edition comes along as part of the extras whereas the other 3 stores it is a separate movie purchase.

iTunes does good stuff with their extras. Studios can store whole alternate cuts (Kingdom of Heaven Director’s Roadshow Edition comes with three versions of the film), commentary, the works.

On iTunes they also include both the Theatrical and Extended versions in the regular code for iTunes. The MA and Vudu redemptions separate them into two releases and you need both codes to unlock them.

I bought the Ultimate version of Kingdom of Heaven last year on Blu but that release didn’t include a code RIP

BTW, while I'm not downplaying the issues some have (hell, I would feel the same exact way if my titles were not syncing up as they should), I'm impressed AF with this service. Believe me, it was not perfect by any means on day one, and still is not. I wish it had chapter select, like Vudu. I wish the Blade Runner extras, in particular, would work, despite showing the extras to me. But otherwise, this service on day one is like a dream come true. How digital movies should be. Roku TV app has worked smoothly for me from day one, and I LOVE LOVE how so many movies have extras, like the classic POTA series, even though none were to be found on Vudu. Grantred, there's still work to be done, but MA is already a great first step in regards to being the Steam of the movie world. And really, that should be the goal with this service, considering Steam goes hand-to-hand with Windows PC these days.

Some studios do it on vudu. Logan has the noir version, Batman vs superman has both cuts.

Anybody know how Disc to Digital reads Blade Runner’s original 5-Disc Blu-Ray release? Does it do it as Final Cut or Theatrical?

I enjoyed Big Hero 6 with the family tonight. It was definitely a step up from Home and other blech "kids" movies out there.

This movie system opening up feels like a whole new world. Though I realised how many movies I have that aren't from participating studios and won't transfer over.

As someone who has a bunch of blu-ray movies and never redeemed a code where should I make an account and redeem these things? I'm sure a bunch of them are expired by now but I'm going to try them anyways. Should I just make a moviesanywhere account and redeem them all there or use another service?

iTunes where you can, Vudu where you can't I'd probably say.

I tried scanning mine the other day and it said it wasn't a supported title. :(

The same was true for the BTTF trilogy set. I guess they don't really support multi disc things like that.

VUDU is the only service to support both UV and MA.

If a code is going to redeem somewhere, it'll redeem at VUDU.

Best place to start if you've never done the digital code thing.

VUDU D2D only supports single discs.

Either use the app to read the physical discs, or just look up a UPC online for the disc you're trying to convert.

At least there’s other ways that have been mentioned in this bread to get that title on D2D then....

Not sure why Creed hasn't shown up in MA yet for me. I redeemed that one in VUDU

Uh you can just use MA tho. MA accepts UV codes. If you just wanna use iTunes, simply add the UV code to MA. You never have to touch Vudu and Vudu has no UV advantage.

MA only supports codes that are from the five studios that have signed up for the platform.

You can't redeem codes from studios that are UV only on the MA site, but you can on VUDU.

If iTunes is doing free 4K for Blu-rays, which is what I thought was happening (haven't used iTunes for digital codes in years), then I don't see why you wouldn't start with iTunes and then redeem elsewhere (Vudu) for the stuff that won't work with it.
